I realise that I'm probably being unrealistic in my request, but here goes My lovely rangerbob wheel arch extentions for my Chevette have turned up YAY! ;D This now poses the question of wheel fitment and width. My plan was/is to get the original 13" steel wheels banded to fit the arches, after a quick measure up it appears I have around 5 inches or so of clearance from the edge of the standard wheel to the edge of the over fender. Given that the standard wheels are around 5" or 5.5" wide I'd be looking to double the width of the wheel. So where can I find affordable 13" tyres that will fit a 10x13" wheel without a stupid amount of stretch? The widest sensible money 13's I can find are 205/60 Nankangs (which I think are going to be too thin) for £40 a pop. Anything wider than this seems to be crazy money! Gratuitous shots of stance I'm trying to achieve.....

Don't think anything wider than a 205 exists as a "road" tyre rather than a trackday tyre - I had a good look about when I was looking at wide 13" wheels for the Imp.

I know thats on a 15" diameter, but the width/sidewall proportions are the same. Will a 1/2 inch each side take it into too much stretch? From looking dead on to the wheel the rim is hidded completely. Doesn't look that stretched from here.

Besides, the look you're trying to achieve needs a fair ammount of stretch to get the tyre wall to the same curve as the inside of the arch.

Double up! 8 tyres Martin far too expensive! I'd thought about 14's but I really like the style of the original Chevette steel, and then it's the cost of finding nice looking 4x100 14" steels Won't cut it, need the wheels to have as much barrel as possible! Besides, the look you're trying to achieve needs a fair ammount of stretch to get the tyre wall to the same curve as the inside of the arch. Good point Mark, that 205 on a 9 doesn't look that bad. I think the best thing to do is get hold of a part worn 205/60R13 to trial fit it. Just need to make a final measurement and then ship the wheels off to Jamesp for some magic ;D

www.avonmotorsport.com - they make a 245/45-13 (ACB10) and 245/50R13 (CR500). Don't know about prices - but hey, no pain, no gain

The super wide 13" rims seen on arched japanese built cars are often sporting track tyres, which obviously adds to the look, but wouldn't be a good solution on a road going car. Here's how silly (as in awesome) 195/45 look on 10x13 wheels. But the higher sidewall and width of the 205/60's will obviously make them look a bit less extreme. If you can take the haters and make the car fit the look i'm sure it'll be awesome.

I've got a set of 4 205/60R13 Nankang sitting in my back garden doing sod all atm. Any good to ya? I did get them to put on the Vitesse which is 8" on the rears, but I've just got another pair of 21/54 Wet weather Michelin ex Formula Renault so I'll be sticking with them for the foreseable
I also have a pair of 24/50(?) ex Formula 3 wet weather tyres to go on a pair of 10" 'silly' wheels. They naturally sit at around 10" across the beads. Both series use 13" wheels
The reason I'm telling you all this guff is that it 'could' be a possible source for some wide tyres (tho not 'strictly legal' I doubt anyone will really care as long as they actually have tread on them)

i also run a 205/60/13 (Falken ZIEX912) on a 9" wheel, it's stretched, but only a little bit, i'd say an extra inch width in the wheels won't make them too stretched.
