Lovely car, I've got a soft spot for anything with a pinto in it anyway, but this is sublime. The extensive use of the Ford parts bin always makes me smile.
If it were mine I'd drop it a few inchs, but other than that it's perfect IMO.

My Pinto experience is down to my Capri, and my Westfield, so I'm no Pinto guru. But I have mates who had Rangers, and a Ginetta G26. :-) Yours just jumps outta the page as a Superkit, it's so well looked after. It's brilliant you've traced the old boy who owned it originally. I bet he's as pleased as punch to hear from you. It's a fantastic connection. I totally understand how you want to keep it original (as original as a kitcar can be :-) )
I think you're being totally realistic with your plans : make the best of what you have already, then develop it if you think it's appropriate.

I run a G31 - plenty of pictures of the old girl on Google and it was also at Tatton on the GOC stand. I have a spare rear spoiler as they were mainly fitted to the G31 and not many used on the G26 models. Mine has been blended into the rear boot lid and has Capri 3 rear lights fitted. You cannot lower them very easily - at the front the Cortina subframe gets painfully close to the ground and at the rear the exhaust gets trapped between the chassis and the axle location arms. The best way to make the car appear better balanced without issues with geometry and ground clearance is to lower the wheel arches Nice car by the way.

Hi Darkspeed Thanks for the info To be honist, the front of the car i'm happy with, I would like to maybe loose -1" on the rear, and uprate the shocks But if that spoiler is getting in your way, I could find a good home for it ?? ;D Just Google G31, is your car White, with black wheels? Are you also running a pinto or V6 ? Cheers Dave

Mine is (DHX 279V) white with black wheels, they are not originals but I have a set that I am refurbing and polishing but they will have black centres. I run 205/60's
I will have a think about what I am doing with the spoiler - I bought it and a replacement bootlid to return it all to original but as the mods are part of the cars history so may not use them.
I know a guy breaking one in Birmingham and I will ask if he has the spoiler.
The trick used on the front - as they do suffer from front end lift - just pop the bonnet at 50 and drive to 70 and see how far it lifts - is to take a mold of the lower spoiler and then bond this under the existing in a kind of double chin.
They also tended to overheat with air by-passing around the rad instead of through it
They are really underrated cars

That is a cool looking car, was never too sure about the shape, but this is probably the nicest one I've ever seen. V6 is a definite win, these always struck me as more of a GT than a sportscar so the Cosworth will definitely suit it well. I've always wondered how big they are? What are they similar to in size?

That is a cool looking car Thanks for the kind words Lucky I was'nt struck on them years ago when I used to goto the kit car shows in my Mini Marcos But something just ticks the boxes for me now ! I'm not very good at welding and my body work stinks, so if I look after this old Ford Bitza I should be half way there I found a mag saying the Ginetta building bros, where heavily influenced by Lotus in the 80's, so this is probably an illegitimate love cousin of the Eclat/Excel ? I ran a g31 for 3 years as my first daily. The seller, my bil reckoned the wheels were wellers? I learnt a fair bit working on that car. Yours looks very tidy!

Cheers Chaps ;D Well its going to be a few weeks before I can get the engine lift for enuf time to do an in and out job on the motor so ... I've gladly took onboard all the comments and decided to tackle a few of them Darkspeed mentioned the lack of airflow to the rad and lift at speed and owning and running one, I can't ignore that fact So without trying to buggering the look of the car to much Darryl ;D But to still have something with function and form I've tryed to address this using a Ford part...... sort of Robinxr4iSo good old ebay delivered me a rear spoiler from a Focus C Max, I removed the the LED brake light and cut it clean in half Then trail fitted the two halfs upside down to the outta ends of the flat, slightly raised undersided I will bridge the middle with a piece of black plastic from a undertray or modern wheel arch liner type material, leading up and inside the lowerhalf to increase airflow in the middle and hopefully push down at the sides ? It's not finished quite yet and I guess time will tell I Just wondered what you lot think ? Comments welcome Dave

Sorry for the delay in posting - cheers for the pics and approval and sorry for the slight thread hi-jack Here's another at Loton a few years ago when in others ownership - a bit offline approaching Museum. At that point it was Cossy powered. Mine is (DHX 279V) white with black wheels. They are really underrated cars I took a couple of pics of your car at Loton Park recently. They really are great looking cars and as you say, very underrated.

In the pic above you can see the spoiler that was typically used to reduce the front end lift. There are a few accounts from GOC members that this particular car having a top speed over 150mph with the Cossy. Another member has fitted a Rover 600 Turbo lump in his G26 and that goes pretty well. www.pl-performance.com/projects/g26.shtmlThere is another G26 with the Cossy V6 in it that I am sure had a few pictures and build thread - met the guy at Oulton park a couple of years back.

mrluke thanks I'm going to cut an oblong on the underside and run the middle part of the valance into the bottom part, where the Rad sits, hopefully to encourage some more air flow ? Darkspeed, no apology's needed, i like to see people's take on these forgotten beasts and the Motorsport pictures expecally get me motivated great pic ! Good to here the V6 conversions had been done before, so the engine lift is now a must ! Cheers Dave
