I'm really glad you're planning not to mess with it too much. Now that I see the engine bay, that's been a really well kept one. Some fettling and tidying will lift it.
I like the GAZ plan, I'd love to see one of these sitting nicely. BTW, speak to GAZ directly, their prices are much better than RRP. I just ordered a set from them for my Scimitar.

ive always been a fan of ginetta but in the swoopy GT cars like G4 etc, always said if i bought a kit car it would be a G. didnt actually know this car existed, unusual looking but not in a bad way.

Thanks all I honistly didn't think it would get any interest and would be sent to Bitza hell ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) I know what you mean Darryl, none of the ones i've seen sit right, eva too high at the back or un even ! thanks for the info i might give Gaz a call and maybe see how much is involved to fit coilovers ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) Anyway, in that case this is what i've been upto . . . Bonnet comes off a P.O.P so i've fitted a full Accuspark system, cos i hate points ! Removed the remains of a dodgy 90's alarm system? Carb removed and cleaned, all Jelly and brown curse word newted, also took the tank off and swilled and rinced it to take away anymore future problems ![](http://i47.tinypic.com/2jae1ie.jpg) The spare has never been fitted ![](http://i45.tinypic.com/29z8kz4.jpg) Fitted new brake linings and rear cylinders, the wheels studs that where fitted only left 3/4 turns on the nuts ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) so i've fitted a Grayston 3/4" spacer and stud kit on the rear, fills the arches better too Also started to Nitromores the rear wheel which has now got me thinking weather to polish the whole wheel and not repaint in the gold ? ![](http://i49.tinypic.com/2zipk4x.jpg) And i've modified the rear lights to run flush to the rear and less like truck/trailer/caravan lights ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) (I am concidering other rear lights, but thats for another pay day) ![:-*](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/kiss.png) Also a square rear number plate and lights, because the oblong one just didn't look right for me ! ![:-X](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/lipssealed.png) ![](http://i49.tinypic.com/155jwox.jpg) Cheers for now Dave

Very nice, almost has a bit of SD1/Aston about it from the back. Good plate for a Q plate too!

Nice to see another G26 yours looks lots better than mine Agree with your point about them not sitting right, mine had the front about the right height but the rear way to high. other options on wheels are 14x7 weller steels , as I have yet to work out how to post an image on to here here is a pic of mine retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=84548&page=1#1105459any questions ask away have owned mine for 4-5 years. regards Dan

That wheel does look a lot more classy without the gold. If you're thinking of changing the rear lights, IIRC there was a modification to fit the rear lights from the old Cavalier, and chop down the trim piece between the lights too (though the pic below doesn't have the trim piece) ![](http://www.aronline.co.uk/images/jcarstory_01.jpg)

I do like the low front, have you modded that ?? @ Darryl Thanks for the info pal ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) I've just had a look at your motor, and I did consider a Sim amongst others before getting this, looks well on the multispokes ;D Dave

No worries, fellah. The Scimitar, Ginetta saloons, Lotus Excel/Elite/etc, are all old British plastics underdogs, and I like to see them still going strong. Cheap with lots of potential.

Well after all the faffing about getting her running half decent ! I've decided to keep the pinto engine as DOG intended ! I'm never going to push it beyond its limits and its a P.O.P to work on and get parts for ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) But it has unearthed a few leaks and hic ups like, old wobbly engine mounts, rocker gasket and water leaks etc ! So rather than run it as is and forever be under the bonnet, missing shows and meets I am going to strip it back to a block and start a fresh with new service parts ie: Cambelt kit & water pump Oil pump Heavy duty engine mounts New top end gaskets etc New Exhaust manifold Vernier Cam Pulley And a revised breather system & and some tarty paint ! ;D So engine stripped back almost to just the block ![](http://i47.tinypic.com/2d1tqpi.jpg) As you can see, OE 1982 water pump, Belt and Tenisoner ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) ![](http://i50.tinypic.com/p4s8w.jpg) Wheels on one side Nitromores'ed back to ally, need to polish ![](http://i48.tinypic.com/24xfdqo.jpg) The pop up head light plunger, makes me smile everytime I look at it ;D ![](http://i50.tinypic.com/s3j87p.jpg) Tar for now

Good to see you're still cracking with this mate, and I like the plans for reliability. Pintos go on and on if you look after them.
Some little advice from my Pinto days, if I may be so bold. Camshaft wear was the main problem with them, usually because the rail that feeds oil to the cam lobes got gunked up inside. You don't need to take the head off for that, so it's worth making sure it's clean up inside of the pipe. If you're doing the cam-belt (good call if you don't know when it was last changed), while you're there, make sure the timing cover is oil-tight. Oil seems keen to seep out from there.
I know you're maybe not intending to go that far in, but I took the head of my old Capri 'cos it was producing blue smoke on start-up (worn valve stem oil seals). The valves were well choked up with carbon deposits too, so I cleaned them up and ground the valves in. When I put it all back together, the car pulled a WHOLE lot better. It' worth looking down those inlet and exhaust ports to see how much crud is depositing down there.
Sorry to try to make more work for you :-)

wondered where this would end up, was watching it on ebay, nice to see it pop up here!! Ive saved every photo from the listing on my pc lol. (I'm slightly ginetta mad, Ive a g15 ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) ) look forward to seeing what you do with this Hey cheers mate Luckily I didn't pay the eBay price !! :-D I went into the classic car showroom it was advertised in Leeds and bid him there and then because it has been stood for a number of years ? But under cover ! I saw it on ebay too. I would love to know how much the Leeds lot paid for it, I saw it on ebay shortly before they started advertising it for £4500 or whatever ridiculous sum they were asking. I think it only got bid up to about £350 then the auction was ended early and it appeared with the Leeds lot a week later!!! Anyway it looks absolute cracker, there's a surprising number of these still knocking about. I'd love one, 2.0 injected twink or RS2000 16v in mine please!!!

Sorry to try to make more work for you :-) Thanks for the info Darryl, sounds like you have had a few pinto's ? ;D I'm really tempted to stick something bigger in (24V cosworth) ? But hopfully without sounding daft, how many G26 do you see as standard ! or what I mean to say as they where intended, if you know what I mean ? ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) yes it is a kit car and what is standard to a home build ? ;D I've actually got hold and spoken to the chap that originally built the car in the 80's, lovely bloke now well intp his 70's I'm now the second owner (On logbook) The car is in its original paint from the factory, so was sold as a super kit, he bought the optional wheels and trailered the whole kit back from Scunthorpe to Sheffield ;D Just little things like speaking with him and hearing its history make me want to keep it as intended ! Sounds Daft don't it ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) I saw it on ebay too. I would love to know how much the Leeds lot paid for it, I saw it on ebay shortly before they started advertising it for £4500 or whatever ridiculous sum they were asking I have also wondered this mate I'm probably better off not knowing ! ![:-[](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/embarrassed.png) might turn me to drink ! Didn't know they where asking £4500 at one time !! ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) I wouldn't of poked it with a pole ;D Tar for now
