My old man has a standard ensign which was basically a garage find - bought it as a project with the intention to get it on the road but as with 90% of all the stuff we have, it's not going to get done.
I've only ever seen one before but couldn't speak to the owner before he left (that was at Enfield)
Are they actually worth anything? And second, does anyone else have one?

sadly they are not worth a lot. I do know where there is a spares car if your interested and I doubt it will be for much. The owner has recently passed away and it's in a lock up near me. As for price I think they go for around £1500 .. I'm no expert on these though. Nearest I had to the mark was a Standard 10..

I really like that, certainly wasn't on my radar.
Thanks for sharing.

Get some pictures up, i know someone who could be interested. Also be worth sticking an advert up on here: standardclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=SalesBut get ready for them to comment on what should and should not be fitted to your model Most standards are not worth a great deal tbh. i don't know why though.

I had a hotrodded Standard 8, it had Triumph Spitfire suspension parts on it, I was told they got bought out by triumph who then improved and used various bits on their own cars, which means later tru,pet bits go on some of the Standards.
Obviously i'm no expert but it could mean an easy ish upgrade path?

There's a similar era big Standard saloon in the barn at the back of the garden next door to my in-laws. Can't remember exactly which version though, as it's partly dismantled. was told they got bought out by triumph who then improved and used various bits on their own cars, which means later tru,pet bits go on some of the Standards.? 'T'was the other way round - Standard bought out Triumph.

Next time I pop over to his ill grab a few pictures probably would end up becoming someone's rat/hot rod if I'm honest, would be nice to see it back to its former glory but I'll get pictures up ASAP. I've only ever seen one more in real life - never knew they did estates either!

As I recall the Ensign uses a smaller capacity (c.1700cc) version of the 2.1 litre Triumph TR compatible lump. So a quick upgrade would be the 2.1 litre engine...
They are the equivalent model to the Consul or whatever from Ford etc.
I like them a lot.
A good one sells for like £2K so one for restoration isn't going to be "big money".
Depends on how much resto it needs...

If you can get or replicate the Vanguard Six crossmember you can fit the straight 6 from the Triumph 2000, 2500, TR6...
I always wanted a hot TR6 powered Vanguard
