At the moment I am pondering over what wheels to fit onto my Stag . Currently it is on 5.5Jx14" GKN Alloys as it came with from the factory. Bar being polished (I believe they were laquered originally) they are in not too bad condition (although 2 of them do leak slightly). I believe it should be on 185R14 tyres although mine are on 185/70R14s. In addition to me probably needing two new tyres (the rear are quite old) it got me thinking about some new rimmage ideas. ATM it is lowered on the front but not the rear (although I plan to drop the rear next year as well or just get new springs all round (I think the fronts are from a 2.5Pi)). Slamming it is not a real option due to the gearbox running almost as low as the exhaust (with the exhaust already showing signs of scrappage ). After searching for a few cheap rims on ebay it got me thinking, what else could I fit? in a 15" guise? First thing is to stick with the stock items (or to go to stock 80 profile tyres): Second idea were Lotus Elite Wheels (If only they were 15s... Maybe they could work on stock tyres (slightly wider rims)): Third were a set of trusted Minilites. I am not sure if I would like them all in one colour. Maybe the centres done in a Black, anthracite colour Or 16"?: Forth were some Revolutions or RFXs: Cosmics (did they come in 15" guise?) Or something else (please suggest . FWIW the car's PCD is 4x114.3 and I believe the stock wheels have an offset of ET17 (please correct that figure if I am wrong:)). Anyway, Merry Xmas chaps .

I was thinking some ATS Classics would look nice... But probably because they look like the stock wheels. Anything other than Minilites though.

I was thinking them too (and oddly enough the Australian Performance Challenger wheels in 15" (they look remarkably similar to ATS Classics)) are in quite a bit of demand with Stag owners:

How about a nice set of Cobra (Halibrand) rims My old one had 15 inch replicas on it, I reckon they'd look pretty sweet

Minilites without dish don't work, IMO. Cosmics came in 15" - might be a bit harder to find, but I like them best from all suggestions so far Or the ultimate works-always-classic: banded steels.... ;D

seen a few pics with Wires not convinced this: looks awesome but can't find any other pics Those are basketless wire baskets like I have on the Hillman. I've got a set of these in OK condition that would be cheap Chrome rim/ally centre made by Dunlop and used on MGB V8s and Scimitars too I think.

I'd go with something unusual....plenty of stags with "regular" wheels

The regular Stag wheels are one of the few factory fitment alloys from that era that look spot-on imho. If you're going for Minilites, then the darker centres look much better than all silver. Cosmics were available in 15", but I think most were 5 stud - have a look though the listings on this page to see what was available: www.cosmic-wheels.com/page.php?2(open each image in a new window, and remove '_small' from the urls to read them properly).

Lotus Elite wheels look really good, I've seen a MK2 saloon around S. London with them, very 70's and very cool! I'm pretty sure they're 15 inch and 7J wide, so may fit with 60 profile tyres?

If it's anything like the saloons (and I think they are, the Mk2 saloons anyway), you'll need to be careful about offset. TR wheels don't fit at the back - sit too far out. I ended up putting KN Minators on my PI. I don't especially like the Minilite style, but choice new is a bit limited! These at least have a reasonable amount of dish. Some suppliers have odd ideas about offset and also think that TR wheels fit saloons/Stags. Mine were eventually as fitted to MGB and they are still a fairly tight fit at the rear with 185/60 15s. I think the saloons look nice with the Eclat wheels fitted - only 14" though. Did you sort the vibration? Nick

Those basketless wire wheels look the business! What a look. I was wondering what wheels your car had Seth. I shall let you know although I am not a massive fan of the V8 wheels. Maybe they could work... Vitesseefi, I have got closer to the source I think. The rear tyres being almost 5-9 years old do not help matters too much (hence me looking for another set of tyres and or rims), nor do the gearbox flange and diff flange angles being difference (you can see the difference when the car is on a ramp). When I took the car to a specialist (where I got the roof from) to check it out he was as stumped as me regarding the problem). With that issue I shall have to try and prop the rear of the box up slightly to only allow for a 2 degree difference tops between the flanges. I am just hoping that I can (before I start looking at CV jointed props as I understand the modern conversions come with) (or significant modifications to the gearbox tunnel (but then will the engine sit right under the bonnet?)). In addition I reckon there is a good chance my diff is shot (in reverse (bar the clonking when it goes from drive to reverse once warm) it also seem to bind a little when going back (not quite like a welded diff feels mind you)). It does not help that it leaks oil and has probably washed the quill shaft bearing out of grease (which can also cause a vibration I understand). It pains me to say it but once I have dealt with the flanges issue I will most likely end up dropping down the rear subframe to check things out . A crying shame really as the 'box really does make the experience nicer than a BW 35 autobox (if only it didn't vibrate the living daylights out of the car at 50mph!)!

I like the idea of Halibrands but unless there's other mods (lowering!) taking place I reckon leaving it on the stock rims will do just fine.

I'd love to see a better picture of those basketless jobbies. So if the Stag is 4 x 114.3 PCD the early Volvo S40/V40 had the option of some nice 16" BBS Crater alloys, though the offset is in the region of 35mm from what I can see. MGB and Scimitars had Dunlop Composites in 14". The ones from Scimitars had a much deeper offset if that's your thing, and if they fit. The Scimitar ones can be found for next to nothing secondhand as nobody really wants them. Properly painted and polished they could lok the biz.

Those basketless wire wheels look the business! What a look. I was wondering what wheels your car had Seth. I'd always wondered too. I think now the secret's out they could become more prolific Seth! I vote the OE wheels - always one of my faves and the wheel I would use to mod a 2000 or Dolly. Failing that, those Aussie wheels run the OE wheels close.

Hello! I have just found this thread and it features my old car. The Stag with the chrome wheels was my car and I've owned a few Stags. I had those wheels for over 10 years and transferred them from car to car. Unfortunately the Stag was written off in June 2006 and was taken by my insurance co. (I wasn't allowed to buy it back) with the wheels on it!! I had no time to put the standard ones on. So I bet those wheels are hiding in someone's garage now..... As no more pics of the car exist I have posted some below. In this pic I am holding the 'basket' in place with my hand which is how the wheels look complete.
