Haha good buy twin sunroof is a win I used to have one and my had the character bits... water leaked from the boot... checked the lines from the washers, but wasnt that... just seems to store water and let it out when the boot was opened... the sunroofs also leaked, but only when turning right... the steering peice I took out as the horn didnt work... still didnt when I sold it... there is no simple way of putting it back in, but I figured that the previous owner had tried this and used PVA to restick it... but all of these aside, great cars... really are a barrell of fun I miss mine now all the best Matt

Hillman Minx 1958 22,000 miles Transferable plate 998 AYD Not sure what its worth, suggests please. Not MOT'd but wouldnt take a lot for it to get there, only selling due change of circumstances and inability to find insurance... I'm 20 and they simply wont insure me. My dad had a quote for about £80... but thats not much use to me. retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=108125Thanks Matt

Just looking into insurance, and can't find anyone who will go near it, being under 21 and having a crash didnt help this...
Anyway, looks as though this may be for sale in the near future, I will make an advert closer the time, but we're going to finish the little bits we started and reassemble a few bits.
Rather gutted about it, but hopefully someone will be able to return her to the road.

Just looking at what model this is... I'm a little unsure still, there seems to be deluxe's and specials?
What I know is its a 1400 engine 1958 registered has a chrome rim around the bottom of the windows (seems to have some significance to which model, but varying opinions on which is which still)
Any help would be much appreciated

If the car is sound have you considered buying a rotten diesel version and transplanting the engine ? Could be a lot cheaper than a LPG conversion plus option of running on veg oil Paul H Intrigued by this... what is the current cost of vegetable oil, and how would the MPG compare? I understand Ben has ventured this way, but have never really looked into it any more.

Diesel is definately an option, it worries me that people seem to suggest diesels require more regular servicing... I have no experience at all with a diesel car, as our household has always been full of petrol heads.
I also wonder whether the financial savings would work out worth while given current diesel vs petrol... bearing in mind I also need it to do well in traffic around town, as I drive... usually in heavy traffic 30 miles a day for work.

So after it being laid up for quite a while... we dragged it out of the garage (2 and half hours) and then started it up first drive in quite a few years... and its really good starts better than some of my other cars have, and runs nicely too. As you may notice, the exhaust is shot... and rather noisey but thats nothing major Enjoy

Haha yup owl poo we beleive, although deers have been spotted in the barn where it was kept so who knows. cheers scott, do i have it back now? who knows.
The clutch was jammed off and nothing seemed to move, but having stripped the master cylinder and reassembled it appears to work, don't want to try to much more inside so were moving it outside (a task in itself, with the door height) then going to attempt to run and drive.... WISH ME LUCK ! ! !

Thanks, was it on ebay a while back? the chap I bought it from said he had advertised it elsewhere previously, but never said where... hmmm. Just been tinkering, and found out the distributor cap was allowing no electric through sad times, so off to the shop for a distributor cap, suprisingly, a few hours later, it had arrived, tried it and it works... but still no spark... new cap, new plugs, hmmmm... again a little more testing and it seems the rotar arm may be rather worn... so another one on its way. In other news... the car has developed a bit of character, it seems to flash at me??? I was simply tinkering away and the headlights just randomly lit up, stayed on for about 10 seconds then dissapeared, its been doing it ever since... any ideas??? Also found 1cm thick filler near the front wheel arch... just like the mini all over again Thanks Matt
