Model: Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDi 130 Ghia 5Dr Hatchback - Turbo blown - Spares or Repair Year: 2002 Mileage: 120045 Tax: Nov 2011 MOT: May 2012 Location: Northwich, Cheshire Price: 600 Additional Information: Here is my Mondeo for sale. The car is generally in excellent condition but the turbo has expired. It looks as though the impeller has come off it's axis and has fouled the housing. The car still runs but obviously not as I'd hope. It billows clouds of white smoke which is the unburnt diesel due to having no turbo boost. The rubber pipe to the turbo is also damaged and would need replacing. Before the turbo went it was running very well and was a very comfortable and economical cruiser. The car has a good level of trim being a Ghia and is very smooth to drive. Being the 130bhp model it really did go quite well and I was very surprised coming from an BMW E39 528i how nippy it was. I looked into replacing the turbo but I do not have the time or patience to do it. If you're half decent with cars I think it should be a pretty simple job. The turbo is the pneumatically actuated type and the turbo model details are shown in the picture of the turbo ID plate. Obviously the car is nine years old and does have some very minor blemishes, please don't expect a showroom finish but it is still a very clean car. There is a small cigarette burn in the drivers seat which was there when I got it (you can just see it on the side bolster in the pics), otherwise the interior is pretty spotless. The car has standard Ghia alloys with good tyres all round (6 - 8mm tread). It had a new battery on it in June this year before I bought it and unluckily for me I'd just filled it with deisel before the turbo went, so there's £60 straight away. The trip computer was showing approximately 50+ mpg when the turbo went and the 5 or so miles smoking it back home dropped it to the 41.7 showing on the pics. I have the V5 in my name and some limited history for the car before I bought it. The MOT runs until May 2012. The car will need to be trailered / towed away as it produces lots of smoke and would be a danger to other road users. I have got the car advertised on ebay, item no 130601082198 with a start bid of £249 which I what I've been offered scrap for it. It really is too good to scrap and with a bit of work would be a good daily (which is what I bought it for). Give us a shout / PM if you need any more info and I'll be happy to help. Some of the pics aren't great but it always seem to be bloomin dark when I've got a spare few minutes. If there's any particular areas where people want to see just let me know. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Below is the FordEtis information for the car to show the spec as fitted to the car. 2.0L Duratorq DI CR (130PS), Medium Steel Blue Primary Features Build Date: 07.12.2001 Vehicle Line: Mondeo 2001-2007 Body Style: 5 Door Saloon Version: Series 50 Engine: 2.0L Duratorq DI CR (130PS) Transmission: 5-Speed Manual Trans - MTX75 Drive: RHD FWD Axle Ratio: 3.56 Emission: 2000 EEC (EEC 7) Air Conditioning: Automatic Air Conditioning Paint: Medium Steel Blue Interior Fabric: Basket 5 Doors, Manual, Hatchback, Petrol, 120,045 miles, metallic blue. . I need to get hold of 2 Mk 4 golf steels. Spec is 5x100 6.5J ET42 16". Obviously some of the other VAG stuff runs the same wheels so anything compatible with that spec would do.
Cheers all

On the dashboard. Say it fell off. It's on the dashboard at the moment but it's doing my head in as it rattles and tweaks my deep seated OCD hatred of rattles and squeaks ;D AL.

Right, Opinions on where to locate the front number plate on my RX7 please. I've already bought a rectangular plate with import size letters (my car's an import so it's legal) and it's 9" x 7" and I was going to mount it offset to the offside of the car in between the lower driving lamp and the main intake but I had a look yesterday and I think it just looks ar$e like that. So, please give me your opinion on what would look best. I'm leaning towards a vinyl plate on the lower lip of the bumper in standard type font etc and just hope I don't get pulled. I won't be driving it every day to work (16mpg) but it will get used and used properly. Cheers AL.

Thanks for the info chaps.
From this I think I'm going to get myself a decent tap wrench for M 8 upwards as I have a T-Handle for the smaller taps. Also, I had a damn good clean up of the cellar and dug out a pretty decent selection of taps hiding in drawers etc. So I'm going to just see what gaps there are and fill them by buying good quality singles or packs of 3 taps to cover most sizes.
As for dies....I've got the wrenches so just need to keep an eye out at car boot sales I reckon and see what pops up.
Already got about 8 cans of cutting and tapping fluid which is very useful and makes a massive difference when working with stainless etc.
Again, cheers RR'ers. Much appreciated.
AL.

Hi all, I'm guessing that there could be a wealth of tapping experience in the RR massive (tee hee) ;D As per title thread, could people recommend me a decent metric tap and die set, preferably from personal experience of using the kit. I've just had to tap some 6mm stainless bar tonight to help a mate fit some recaros to his car and realised it's a lot easier if you: a) Can fine the T handle for the taps b) Have some decent taps and c) Don't slice your finger on the swarf when drilling the bar in the first place.......muppet I'm obviously not wanting to spend the thick end of a good night out so I was hoping something around the £20 to £30 mark would get me something at least half decent. The greater the range of taps and dies the better. Anyway, thanks for any help and here's some hard-core tap and dye action for your pleasure Cheers AL.

What an awesome monster build I reckon it'll be the size of a Tiger when it's finished. The lawn won't know what hit it. Just need an 88m gun mount on it and the nearest sherman will be running for the hills. ;D BOOKMARKED! AL.

Stunning car, one of the nicest, Jag missed a trick not producing it. I wonder if they had, would we have had the E Type? Nice pictures thank you. Andy. Saw this at Goodwood also (but several years ago) and it is such a stunner. Love the rivets on the panels, spitfire style...awesome! I think it's proportions put the e-type in the shade and I'd have loved to have seen this produced instead of the E. AL.

Thanks to the replies chaps, all good advice.
Tried clubpolo and joined the forum but they wouldn't/couln't validate my registration so I couldn't view the 'for sale' section.
Ended up down the local scrappy and tbh that's the best option as there was everything I needed in one place, and also the bits I didn't know I needed until deep into the job (knackered carbon cannister behind the headlight and extra frilly crossmember behind the outer bumper).
So all-in-all I had a very productive weekend stripping the front end of a little red, slightly bent outta shape polo and forming it into a red, blue and black, much straighter polo. Unfortunately I was too knackerd/filthy/sweaty/rushing around to get any photos, so maybe next time she bumps it into something hard and unyielding I'll get some pics.
Cheers RR's,
AL.
