Done a little bit this morning.
Got the inner sill built back up and trimmed the sill down and finished that off.
Also welded the holes up down the sides.
Struggling to do much more as I am waiting for flap wheels and dremmel discs to turn up.
So next was bidding on and winning and then collecting this off ebay.
It is 6mx3m and will speed up the process of getting this fiesta finished. Bare metal outside in this weather is tough going and trying to get the repairs done is to weather dependant. I lost all day Saturday to rain so that problem is now cured and painting it has just got a whole lot simpler as I was going to have to empty the garage to do it in there but I will do it in here now. (once the sides are on obviously)
Cleaned the sill up a bit more put some rust treatment on and then etch primer
Then made a start on the passenger side inner wing. I am trying to do this without taking the wing off. I will see how it goes but it still may have to come off yet.
I started cutting the bad out but the plate on the top was hiding some I felt so I took that off and trimmed it all up and put some rust treatment on it.
Then made a couple of plates to replicate how it was.
Waiting for my welder mate now to finish off this side. The other side is less work as the sill is good there which maybe down to the fact I cleaned it all up and painted it during the last ownership spell but never got round to the passenger side before I sold it.
Well I have had a couple of afternoons on this with my mate this week.
First off was a plate on the inner wing.
A bit of grinding and some zinc primer later
finishing piece
I then cleaned up and cut the bad out of the corner.
More pics to follow as this is now repaired.
My mate also had a go at repairing the arch rolling on the wing and the result has suprised me and I must doff my cap to my mate Jim.
So apart from some final grinding up and some seam sealer the passenger side is done. I will sort that before the weekend and get on the drivers arch Saturday.
I have took sa couple more pics.
First is the corner of the engine bay.
Then behind the rear bumper there was a couple of dents by the mountings. The drivers side was the worst and to be fair it is hidden by the bumper but as I am painting the bottom half at least it wouls be stupid to not straighten it out.
They need stripping to bare metal now but that can wait till I start prepping.
My mate worked in an insurance approved body shop years ago so knows his stuff. I clean up and cut out then make plates he welds it. He is no stranger to fiestas as he has restored a mk1 XR2 I sold him about 10 years ago
Today I have seam sealed and put etch primer on the repairs all along the passenger side so its ready to filler. I will now attempt to get the drivers side upto the same position.
I am pleased with how the inner wing has come out and once the engine bay is painted it will almost be an invisable repair.
I had trouble in the week with wind trying to steal my tent which led to a midnight side removal.
All is good though and I have put the sides back on today.
First I cut the rear arch out.
Little repair on the rear corner. This was only a very small scab that hadn't broke the paint but it went straight to a hole when I showed it the flap wheel.
As you can see above the exhaust is looking like it is nearing the end of its life and while I am yet to go through the mechanicals of it I picked up a new one from euro car parts for £56 which I thought was cheap so was straight over to West Brom to pick one up.
Next up was welding the rear drivers arch in
Also got the rear corner repaired
Had to cut a little piece out of the arch towards the front as when I took the lip back to metal it was looking a bit rough and want all the rot out now rather than it coming back sooner rather than later.
This is what I am faced with on the drivers side inner wing, I don't think it as bad as the pass side and after having a poke and a scrape about I don't even think there is any holes so just the bracket in the corner to fix
That is now up to date apart from todays progress which I will add tomorrow. The original forum I had this thread on is dead compared to 6 years ago when I originally started it so thought I would put it on here.
