Kadett if you want that front end or Chevette if you like your car's pointy.
I always preferred the Opel front end.
They still turn up so shouldn't have too much difficulty finding one.
2 and 4 door saloon 3 door estate 3 door van 3 door hatch Opel did a coupe. Good luck finding a cheap one.

Nothing dramatic today, I was pushed for time. Brake hose replaced (had to cut through old one). Now plumbed front to rear. The engine bay pipe system will just drop right in with its valve and stuff. Removed the last two redundant brackets too. Tow gear arrived in anticipation. I think Saturday is swap day. Measured workshop door height and we should be ok. Might have to let tyres down but we'll see. Fingers and toes crossed.

Good plan, or perhaps just go for it and have an impromptu roof chop to amuse the RR collective.

Yes we might have to fit something little, but where's the fun in that!
Sorry about the rear quarter panels, we were going to remove them, but since we haven't been asked for any in 8 years thought we wouldn't bother!
Ah well. Next time I get a 3 door I'll make sure to keep them.
Today is a brake pipey kind of day.

As it turns out, this might not fit in the workshop we're using for the swap.
When I say "might" and "fit in" I mean probably won't come back out due to the height and the size of the door....

I reckon this is up to 20 hours now. That's not including the doubling or tripling of man power for a few hours, just overall time. This morning I got up extra early and got to work just a little early. Fired up the jet wash and got the chassis really clean. Nice and sunny and a bit breezy so it dried off in no time. Then it rained. A lot. This meant time to sort the pedals. Simply cut TDI accelerator pedal off, weld to TD5 pedal box and make cable hole, fit pedal box, realise brake pushrod fitting is different, remove pedal box, swap brake pedals, refit again again. This evening, for a nice indoor job, it's been find some waxoyl and slosh it on. Was going to do clutch but it's working fine and I really can't be bothered. Unnecessary expense at the moment. Time to get that body on.... Sent from my toilet using proboards

Under the paint and the silly powder coat, they're all good. Not been dented or run down kerbs, no broken bolts, they're as good as they look. I reckon they're priced pretty fairly, I just want to swap to 16s.

Hello. Here's a close up of right up the dented one. (Woof) And more useful, this is the dent. Overall view. Not bad really. Sorry about the dirt.

This is still available. Come and have a look. Open to offers etc etc.
I'd take a Honda City or Mazda 121 or variety of old GM tat and cash my way...

Prices are going up. Really nice car to live with. I mean a really practical, docile around town and proper fast when you want. Not at all bad on fuel. Still feel really special too, and feel well put together. You shouldn't be sat in it wondering what's going to break or drop off like some other high performance or exotic cars. Lefties are a bit cheaper too...

I'm slightly disappointed to have not already removed the old shell. The problem is I suffer from chronic back problems and currently have some rather painful issues with my ribs (the right side is all locked up) but it only hurts when I breathe.
This means the pace at which I can proceed is limited to say the least.
Anyway, the plan is as follows.
Body off the old one, throw away.
Replace clutch (since its easy to do)
Paint and generally tart up chassis.
Roll TD5 into neighbouring workshop with 2 post lift.
Lift body and roll out chassis
Roll in my chassis and lower body
Bolt together.
Drive off into sunset.
The complications to this are as follows.
Swap drive by wire to cable
Delete ABS and ACE redundant bits
Get A/C plumbed and working with the climate control etc
Fit TDI instrumentation and make it all work
Try to confuse BCU (I have T4/Test book so shouldn't be a problem)
Make it all appear as tidy as possible
As it turns out, it might need a windscreen so I'll get a heated one in. All wiring is present so it's just fit a switch a turn that feature on in the body control unit.
There'll be more.
