MONEY, that's what it's about, at least any retrospective laws are. I grew up in Spanish law and most EU will allow you to mess with cars, as long as it's declared and got an expensive engineers signature to prove it. Still that does not stop em. To play devils advocate, I see loads of DIY work on modified cars that is shabby (I'm not free of sin) and if getting a higher standard stops people butchering cars and disrespecting safety then it can't be too bad. As for the engine thing, probably be a emissions thing innit. so all we need is 2 engine modes and one of these:

A mate of mine is saving me one of these in Spain, I'm hoping to collect it in the new year. I used to love them as a kid, as they weigh about the same as a baby hamster, so obviously I'm already planning on a engine upgrade... has anybody put a 125cc+ motor in a scooter? I would like to put a geared engine in it.

So a body roller is on the cards as I can get the metal for it. I have a rough idea but want to have a bit more info and tips before I start fabricating.
I want to do the bottom bolt on type as opposed to the rotisserie style due to the available space.
Any ideas tips or pictures will be great. Thanks

guys. Had a new winter warmer project delivered today. It's a bit rusty but it looks like it will be enjoyable fun. May even make a body roller for it... any excuse is good!

Sadly, I always forget to take a pic of the Passat when it's loaded up. It's been used to transport many engines, beds, loads of other furniture, tonnes of wood, scrap, other cars and three complete 4000km trips down to Spain. Only load pic I have of it from one of the trips, we were pulled up on a old road in the desert.

not sure about tools for sale but maybe a tools forum with advice on how to use them safely/correctly?? That is a good idea.

I got this home made lathe a while back but I can't justify the size of it for the few times I will use it. It comes with the bench and all the bits needed. Does not come with the tool slide pictured as that's for the other baby lathe. I got it for 50GBP without the bench, take it away for only 30GBP, located in Bungay, Norfolk

I think it would be good to have a tools or misc for sale category, I noticed we don't have one when I was going to sell my spare lathe.

Yeah it does seem that different places see different things but that is probably down to them being mechanics. I used to use a place that ALWAYS flagged up brake lines, funny that it's always low parts cost and high labour time stuff that gets found.
I also used to hate MOT time but after finding a good MOT station ad learning more about the safety aspects of it I quite enjoy it as it helps find all the bits that need improving. Less like a dentist visit and more like quality control.
If your car is rusty it can't be a bad thing that it gets sorted, and if you have not got time to sort it it's not MOT man's fault.
Just think yourself lucky that we do have the MOT system that we do have, as you could live in one of the strict countries where most of the old and or modified cars we own would be classed as dangerous and legal.

Off a MK3 I think, I hear what you are saying but I do like it subtle... this is such a stupidly hard decision!
I thought the same about polishing them but they have large centre caps and I hate polishing.
