I've been browsing the forum for a long time now but only recently joined so thought a good start for my first post would be to post up my current project.
I have had many retro cars over the years (some of which I deeply regret selling, particularly the RS1600i and Corrado) including several mk2 XR2's, mk3 & 4 XR3i's, RS1600i, S1 Escort RST, Orion ghia i, Pug 309 GTI, E30 BMW, Polo Coupe, mk1 Golf, mk3 Golf, a Corrado and several mk2 Golf GTI's including my current late 1991 (registered 31/12/91) Oak Green 8v GTI.
I bought the car in Aug last yr and have been gradually trying to improve it since:
just got it home and given it a clean.
then changed the gearknob from the nasty chavvy alloy one to a mk3 gti anniversay one:
added the correct grille and badge
changed the crystal rear lights which are not to my taste for some 16v hella half smoke ones:
the car has done over 200k miles but found another tidy mk2 in the same colour in a local breaker so relieved it of some parts...
;D
found some infinity speakers fitted in my mk1 (sadly being broken at the time due to serious rot issues) and thought they looked about the same size as the standard dash speakers in the mk2 so fitted them...I'm not overly fussed by sound systems but they are certainly a big improvement:
swapped my original worn out clocks for the 160mph 16v ones I got from the scrappie....final mileage on the original clocks 203614
new clocks on a lowly 168745
changed the metal strip below the grill as it was black one in the correct colour also from the breaker, only minor but looks loads better:
and bought some new suspension
putting on the coilovers as well as changing both bumpers, and both dented front wings with the help of a mate:
my original front bumper was also nailed where it had been riveted all along the top so that got changed too:
interior needed attention next so changed the ripped passenger seat and rear seat with several cigarette burns in for mint ones (the new rear also having optional rear headrests) and fitted a momo team steering wheel:
and this is pretty much how the cars sits today (except I have since fitted the number plate back to its proper place on the front bumber - I originally stuck it on for these pics but recently gelled bumpers and a hot day meant it fell off pretty soon after!):
hope you like, any comments welcome.
Cheers
Martin
