I bought this as a Cat C write off (bent rear quarter but driveable) for £200 off the register earlier this year. I could have repaired it but in the end used the parts to keep my other one alive. Values have picked up recently though.

That looks good, has it got 20 inch wheels, and BMX bars?
Has anyone got a set of forks lying about that I can butcher? Not sure what size the steerer tube is, but it has a quill stem

It's home! Guy selling it was a top bloke, well into his bikes. First thing I did when I got it home is ride it! First impressions, are- it's small. It's designed for a young teenager really, but I like the way it rides, has a kind of BMX quality to it. The brakes are pants too, they need adjusting and those levers changing. It's in really great nick, the paint is spotless and very shiny, the blue is a nice metallic, so I think it's staying that way. I took off the MTB riser bars, they're some generic alloy riser ones, so they had to go, I put these on: The bars make it even shorter, and harder to ride. The springer saddle is quite nice and V comfy: The welding is a bit suspect in places: Other than that I'm happy, I think to make it rideable for me (I'm 6ft) I need a chopper seat and a sissy bar. And I might spray the wheels black, as the chrome's a little pitted.

She's much nicer, and the bike aint bad either!
I nearly bought one of those Issimo bikes a few months ago, but I missed out on the auction. I reckon with the right paintjob and the mudguards, rack, bell and and everything off, that could look a bit less girly

tsk. It is rather odd. I think apollo make those awful bottom budget sub £100 MTBs, hence the plastic brake levers Saying that the seller has various other bike related tat for sale. Cheers for the input so far!

That's fantastic! A mate had an ace treehouse when I was a kid, similar to that with a rope ladder. Had a trapdoor in the floor so you could throw stuff at intruders! (generally his older brother)

I slipped in a last minute bid and won this on Saturday night: It was described as an apollo retro bike, from the mid 90's. The owner's put MTB riser bars on it, but the chrome originals come with the bike. It's got 24 inch wheels, so I'm not sure if it'll be a bit small, but for what it cost I won't be complaining. I've gotta go and pick it up one night this week. I think the paint scheme will be either olive drab, or flat black, take the front brake off, find a chrome brake lever. If I get time I fancy having a go at making up some springer forks for it too. If anyone has any inspiration I'm open to suggestions!

Great selection of photos there, and like the commentary too! I love these country shows, I go to the Pickering Traction engine rally most years, and spend the next 3 weeks scouring ebay for tractors and stationary engines to restore (and I'm only 26) I've just found out through a mate where there's a little grey fergie that needs some TLC This reminds me of the one my dad used to have. 2.0 GL, same as that but in metallic blue, I used to sit on the roofrack of it at Cartmel races and watch the horses. It was rusty when he owned it so it will be loong since dead, great car though

I've got a clarke 130 , that I picked up second hand off ebay. The seller was a very helpful chap, and had restored 3 or 4 series land rovers using the welder he was selling. He was able to show me work that he'd done with the welder, and even gave me a quick welding lesson! I've heard that the higher power welders often don't go low enough, or the increments between settings aren't ideal, but having never used a 150 I'm not sure. Turbo models are a bonus as thay have inbuilt cooling, so won't overheat and cut off if you're using it a lot. Saying that I've never had mine cut out on me as yet. You can weld heavier stuff wiith a 130 amp welder, as long as it's on a higher setting you should be fine. On the lower settings mine will weld my (paper thin) scirocco bodywork too, so I'm happy with it. I paid £140 for mine with 2 bottles of pub gas (Co2) 2 rolls of wire, spare tips, shrouds, a liner, and a mask, plus a little bosch grinder, it's worked spot on from day 1 too. I may have paid a little over the odds, but the seller was great, and seeing examples of what it could do was useful. It's worth getting friendly with your local publican to see if you can lay your hands on a bottle of pub Co2, as they last for ages. I forgot to bid on this the other day, which was just round the corner and dirt cheap (although it says no gas, this only means it can use gasless wire, but can work both ways, hence the bottle on the back): cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=130234506741&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=003

That sounds great, I think that's just helped me decide to put my CBR bike carbs on the Scirocco! Also some more pictures of this (top left, lurking in the dark) would be nice (or if you have time maybe a thread in 'readers other modifications':

This may or may not have been done before but, on mine is: 1. Grubby old Halfords toolbox 2. Alfa 145 2 minutes up the road 3. 1995 Golf Cabby - For the wife 4. 12 foot speedboat with seagull outboard motor! 5. Very grubby workshop bench with bench grinder 6. Balco tyre machine (that I can't afford) 7. VW caddy Pickup with TDi conversion and rust issues 8. Another old workbench 9. Ratty old rascal van 10. Clarke 150 amp welder (I've already got one, I'm just curious) I'm sure there are people with MUCH more random stuff than this?

You know it's bad when the MOT tester is testing your Land Rover (which you hoped and thought would pass) does 2 pages of fails, and then gives up and sacks you off. That was a bad day.

Mk1.5 Scirocco Likes: How it looks, about a foot lower than anything in Tesco's car park, and the edgy styling - lovely. The smell inside and under the bonnet. The laid back coupe driving position. Dislikes: It's a bit scabby around the edges. It's very broken at the minute, and I can't be arsed to work on it. Scirocco's are unfortunately currently worthless to anyone but the Hiab men. Land Rover SIIA SWB Likes: Tax exempt 4WD Driving position The smell of wet dog inside The way it drives generally, bouncy and imprecise The looks and waves you get driving it with the roof off Meccano kit mechanicals, a joy to work on and fix. Even welding it isn't hard. Dislikes: Thirsty little curse word The fact it's 160 miles away and I can't find anyone who will transport it over here 1967 Moggie Traveller Likes: Been in 3 generations of the family MINT condition (last time I saw it) Again the smell, and the lovely interior Dislikes: I've never driven it on the road Yet again the fact it's 160 miles away and I can't find anyone who will transport it over here
