Ugh, don't get me started on Renault ads. Almost as vomit-inducing as the "Buy a Scenic or your wife and kids will hate you" one, where she just about creams herself when she thinks he's bought a Scenic, then rolls her eyes in disgust when she finds out he hasn't. Nauseating. I think the headline is "You'd have been better off with a Scenic". I think "You'd have been better off with a divorce" would be more accurate. EDIT... hmm, that was all a bit negative... I did like the Renault 4 in the ad!

A brilliant ad for a disappointing car...
(I've got it as an mpeg if anyone needs [or any other ad for that matter])

I like that slogan Renault used in the mid 80's 'Renault build a better car'. Shame they never thought to sell it.

And if you you look very carefully at this advert, the car he shows her is a tarted up previous generation Scenic! So what is that Renault is saying? Previous model was pants? Yes we know it, it was! ;D

I mean, they launched the stunning Vel Satis and the quirk Avantime and were rewarded with awful sales figures and dismal depreciation.

I was gonna post about this, but I've been pipped at the post. As well as the 4 and 16TX, some versions of the ad feature a 1st gen 5, a 12, a 6 and a first gen Twingo.

I believe that car manufacturers aren't allowed to show other manufacturers car in a derogatory way unless it's a direct, proven comparison. It's the same reason all the 'floaty' cars in the Mondeo ad are old Fords.

Its also the issue of free publicity. Fiat did an ad comparing their 132 to the Cortina and "apparently" Cortina sales went up. Free ads on TV for Ford with Fiat paying.... Even the BMW in that insurance ad where the bricks fall on it has been debadged and fitted with a dummy grill.
That "Renault build a better car" tag line was a corker. I remember us always "finishing the sentense off" for them with "...than this junk" or just "so lets see it then?"
Funny that when Buick used a similarly themed "Buick builds better cars" in the 1930s it wasn't taken in a negative manner.
Not the worst Renner advert ever. I mean, they do seem to specialise in TOSH adverts. The original Scenic advert (sound of music) drove me funkin spare, and don't get me started on Papa and Nicole or the fuggin Yuppie Family and ther Renner 25. And I WENT to a private frikkin school. That ad did more to promote the agenda of organisations like Class War than Margret Thatcher ever did.
Anyone got an Mpeg or something for old times sake? LOL

Spitting Image did a curse word take of the Renault 25 yuppie ad, when Clive Sinclair sold his business, about the company car going back as he peddled along on his C5.
As for the Renault 5 'What do you call yours?' ads, well I had a Series 1 GT turbo so I shall leave up to you to decided what I called mine, as most of the names are not fit to print.

Even the BMW in that insurance ad where the bricks fall on it has been debadged and fitted with a dummy grill. Is it just me or is that a Saab 9-5 with a BMW E36 front end grafted onto it?

I like the slogan, "4x4 outside, Renault inside". Should that not be "4x4 outside, Nissan X-Trail inside"?

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.
