Updates Only used the Extra once since the France/Germany trip and that was to pick up a set of cup2's for the Kangoo, mid October iirc. Check out the size difference between the 13" gtt spare and the 18's! Its currently sat sorned in the garage until the weather picks up. Mrs got me a stack 5 stage sequential shift light for xmas that plugs into the stack dash. Nice bit of kit, very easy to fit as its a simple plug and play to the dash and is fully programmable for each light via the dash. Ive set the 1st light at 6500 and the final light at 7300rpm for now, which is 300rpm off the 7600rpm hardcut limiter. Fitted on the cowling in front of the dash. Vid of it in programming mode. Its dimmed in this setting. Daytime mode burns your retina's off. Cant wait to test it out though. Thanks for reading!!

Done a superb job on the headers. Silicone plug is a great idea too.

2nd October. Reims then Nurburgring. curse word down and R888R not the best combo! Was alright steady away though. Autobahns in the wet. Put my foot down and Extra was misfiring a little on boost i can only think it was the curse word 98octane fuel. Monday 3rd October. Woke up to a nice dry yet fresh morning in Adenau. Filled up with bp ultimate 102octane which cured all issues at the local Aral garage, €2.15 a ltr lol. Noticed an instant improvement in performance and lower egts from this. Done the usual stuff, down to Devils diner in the morning. Was super busy as i believe it was the german equivalent of a bank hol. Went to Brunnchen to view a bit. Had the Apex m3 ring Taxi booked so went down at Mid day. What an experience! 4 up in a stock engine m3, cage, nitrons and PS4S road tyres overtaking everyone on a busy TF/Green hell day. Met Misha the owner and he was cool, he wanted to take the Extra out for a lap for hia Youtube channel. I was worried the high boost map would end up in tears as its more aimed for sprint use than hard sustained use so had to decline. Next time when its detuned or the Kangoo once its done. Onto the complex for a look round. Then onto the Nurburgring for a sightseer lap on low boost. Super busy which worries me after my crash years ago but still enjoyed it at 5/10ths pace. Track was mega busy i had a bm in my blind spot coming into the carussel so didnt drop in as couldnt judge his position. Took the top route which is smooth and i got the power in absolutely seeing him off and exiting before him. No issues really apart from pulling in the carpark after the lap and opening the bonnet to notice my coolant bottle rising to the top with the engine turned off. Was not too worried as coolant temps fine when running, feeling the coolant hoses to see if hard noted there was no pressure at all, so once cooled i took header tank cap off to discover the seal had popped out of the side when topping up the coolant prior to setting off. Popped back in place and fixed. Engine temp no different interestingly still runs super cool. Had a pax lap in my mates bm 340i and seen a merc on fire. Felt gutted for the owner, i guess it was too late once he had seen the flames. Onto PK for beers and steak on the stone in the evening. Ive been to PK loads of times but this time the food was great but the service was s**t, bit dissapointing but nevermind. Signed the roof above the bar under previous Jonguard. Tuesday 4th. Photo outside the complex before setting off home. Topped up tank with 102 octane, Running late for train so hammer down 120mph+ on the autobahns. Endurance driving so quick couple of stops and home by 10:30ish pm. 1500+ miles done!! Epic Thanks for reading!!

Updates With the kangoo rs currently out of action and the Paris/Nurburgring trip on the cards i needed a vehicle capable of the trip. Was tempted to take my clio trophy but its had its fun on the welsh weekender and the clutch is awful and id like it to be mapped for full power. The Blue meg 225 and the orange clio dci have been to the nurburgring before and the blue diesel is the daily, doing daily things so the natural choice was the Extra van. With a kind of f***it attitude "if it breaks it breaks will sort it en route" and a bit of confidence in being able to build a reilable setup, i give it a quick once over, topped up the oil, changed the back worn out old r888 for a set of part worn 2020 date stamped r888r. New wipers as looked like it was going to curse word down and sent it. Thurs 29th set off from Redcar to Folkestone. curse word down as expected on route new wipers were a good shout. Eurotunnel ready to board with Moggy_rs and Rog All aboard Hotel in calais for the night to get ready for the next leg of the journey to Paris. Friday 30th, one of many fuel stops in France. 98 octane only was a pisser as its mapped pretty close to the edge on the ign so low boost only. Carrefour, Elf on a Shelf whilst picking up your weekly groceries. Made it to Paris no issues apart from the Crit Air low emissions zones Mon-Fri which it does not qualify for which is a pain and can land a fine. The route to avoid that took us through all the tunnels, making some noise with the side exit exhaust. Bit of adaptronic hard cut limiter. I cant speak a word of French but got a few nods and shouts of Express Turbo which was cool.

Updates Done a few small jobs to the Extra. Serviced it, fresh Valvoline vr1 racing 20/50 mineral oil and purflux filter. Ive stuck with the vr1 as it seems like good stuff and oil pressure is epic on it. 4bar oil pressure hot over 3k rpm which is miles better than the average c1j that struggles to do the recomended 3bar at 3500rpm when hot. Stiffer than morning wood these old van shells! Done another job ive planned to do for years but not got round to. The engine has always ran pretty cool with no rad cowling but had always planned on making one to force air through the rad core, as air is lazy and will go round it if it can via the easiest route. I used plastic abs 2mm sheet for the job. Light, easy to cut and mould with the heatgun. I started with a cad template (cardboard aided design) cut and moulded it around the rad core with sides so air forces through. Its not as neat as id like but functional, fitted with rivnuts and bolts. Road test revealed that it works well, a bit too well to be fair. The engine has always ran cool on injection around 70deg coolant temps when at speed. It now drops down to 67-68 degrees when at speed and thats with a stock thermostat. Noted coolant temps drop faster when moving from low speed driving. Its only summer use so not an issue, but if it was used in winter low temps id reckon it would run too cool. Also took it to Mallory Park for Retro Rides Gathering. Epic day, took it on the afternoon sprint for a couple of runs. I was struggling to get heat into the brakes and tyres as only 2 laps so had 2x runs out and the back end was quite lively on Gerrards at one point so called it a day at that. The handling with quaife lsd and leda coilovers is unreal feels so planted. Had mega fun pushing the Alfa touring car replica round. Only got one pic in the pits as was too busy enjoying the day. Pics ive grabbed from various people thanks for taking them. Maximum attack on devils elbow. Last time i drove Mallory in it, it would light up the inside tyre in 3rd gear flat down. Loads more traction with the lsd this time round. A couple of vids. Made it back safe and sound. Paris/Nurburgring in it next weekend cant wait. Thanks for reading!!
