Morning all,
Okay, my car (Metro Turbo is so, so close to its first half-decent MoT attempt in five years. But, after all the prep’s done I can’t get it to start!
Now, this follows the last stage in the recomissioning process by a good mechanic friend of mine who has done a sterling job of getting it up to scratch and who has been a technician/mechanic for the last 35 years.
After sorting all the bearings/brakes/exhaust he spent a good few hours giving it a bit of a tune – or as much as he could do – and it sounded the best it ever had, starting instantly and amazingly didn’t blow up etc. The only thing he said was “just have to see if it starts when cold now!” The answer I’ve since found out (a week or so later), being “no”.
Now, I know he’ll be able to sort it out no problem but I just wonder if there’s something obvious that I could do before I call on him again. It’s turning but just doesn’t catch. I sprayed some carb cleaner down the air filter housing and it did a little cough but other than that a big fat nothing. It was run quite low on fuel so I’m wondering if the fuel filter is clogged but to be honest the tank was cleaned out a few years back and it’s done a handful of miles since.
Despite me giving it plenty of choke and pumping the pedal it didn’t smell ‘fuelly’ or flooded either, so I really am wondering if the fuel’s getting through.
Other than that, I’m thinking timing?
Any thoughts are much appreciated. And yes, I have already tried the special "car starting words" that I learnt from my Dad and will pass on to my son when I feel he is capable of using them responsibly and only for such important occasions.

Afternoon, I've just bought this lot and I think the tyres on the alloys are the size you need. Looking at them quickly they're all budget brands but should do the job with decent tread remaining. Read more: www.retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=pfsw&action=display&thread=135683#ixzz25atitpgEI'm going to scrap the alloys and can get the tyres taken off and disposed of for £1.50 each. However, you can have them all for £10. The only problem is, I'm in Gloucester...

Don't usually comment much on readers' rides, but this really is ace. Not just the bang-on concept but the work that's gone into it. Very jealous of your skills!

My brother had his MkI Laguna Estate diesel collected from his work in Milton Keynes last week for £160. It was one of the companies off the internet rather than a local scrappy - they were all offering £75, but hey, everyone's got to make a living!
He was quite happy with that as it was jumping out of third now and again and had 183k on the clock. That said, it had good tyres, a towbar that had been used once, recent cambelt and tested until next May, so I think they'll make their money back whatever they do with it.

All still here.
SD1 has gone but will replace with Haynes Rover 213/216 or Maestro, both still in the cellophane.

Afternoon peeps,
I have the below manuals and would like to swap them for one or two working Scalextric cars (preferably an XR3i...). Anybody fancy a swap?
I'm in Gloucester so seeing as the manuals way a ton I can't do a deal via post. That said, I commute between there and Stratford so ideal if anyone's along the route. Come on, help me get some use out of the Scalextric Night Stages set I just bought off ebay. Lovely seller, but christ it's ropey!

I think I have a 80s kit car magazine in the garage that has a big feature on when the G26 was launched.
I shall dig it out.

I'd have a closer look at the ID/identifying marks of that Escort as to me it looks like it could be a bit more special than at first thought.
Yes, it's more than likely a rep with the Mexico wings, qtr bumpers and six-dial dash but the colour, which looks to be Modena Green, was a usual Mexico colour and if that is just a respray, someone went to an awful lot of trouble to do a very thorough job. First off, worth popping the boot and seeing if there's a row of bolts (four?) coming through the bolt floor.

Hey, that's a very kind offer. Thank you.
Are you pretty close by to Bridlington?
I'm going to give the guy a call tomorrow and I'll let you know how it pans out. Thanks again.

Before I send them over the bridge of doom, anyone interested in a set of BMW E36 15-spoke, five-stud factory alloys (no tyres)?
Actually very nice condition and although for a E36 were removed from a E28 5-Series circa 20 years ago (so I was told) and been in storage since. Complete with centres although a couple have yellowed.
Markings are 7Jx15 1S 47 and 1180 447-13
£40 gets ‘em.
Collection from Gloucester or can help out with delivery if you’re between there and Stratford-upon-Avon.
Can't post pics because I'm a bit rubbish, but happy to email some if you pm an address.

A bit of a long shot but I’ve seen a set of four 5.5x13 inch wheels I like in Bridlington, which I believe is East Yorkshire. Only problem is, I’m in Gloucester and I don’t think the seller cares for couriers too much.
Anyone able to collect and bring them this way? The Gathering is very close by and although I’m not going, I could meet near there to collect if it’s convenient.
Oh, and I wouldn’t expect someone to go to the trouble for nothing.

Okay, a little update.
Just spoken to Lancaster and service is once again very good.
Telephone advisor I spoke to openly admitted that he wasn't completely up to speed on how they would determine market value but did say they would look at all avenues and not just book price. Good, but not completely foolproof, so I asked about an agreed value.
This is the good bit as adding this reassurance, if Lancaster's underwriters agreed, would cost just £15. For anyone who hasn't gone down this route, the details of how to go about negotiating the value would be sent out at the time of the policy, detailing what to send photos/copies of bills etc.
Salvage retention would also be possible, although not if it was a Cat A or B. That said and judging by the car's 'safety features', if I was in it at the time of such damage then my only worry would most likely be if they were going to let me through the gates or not...
So, for the grand sum of £97 all in and a bit of time sorting some pics/documents it looks like I can sort it with an agreed value. At that price, I reckon I'd be a fool not to.
