Virtually all comments reflect a common thread which is rather sad as most enthusiasts want the ambience of the involvement, the shows, the spares availability, like minded friends to chat cars with but my only real time experience of a British marque club was layers of people involved with a club but at different levels, ideas and what they want from it. The richer members of this club at pub meets sat on the top table judging people not the reason why they were there. Then an anorak level organising outdoor events within the restrictions set by themselves. A younger enthusiastic element who had the get up and go enthusiasm but stifled by anorak section. Finally myself owning an actual running edition without frills stood in the dark talking to the only other member interested in retro modifying. Persevered for a few meetings, spoke to a single lady and her son about their car and heard top table hierachy whispering shes on the pull / er excuse me this is a car club meeting not grab a granny at the Royal Oak on Tuesday night. Walked away still with my retro enthusiasm intact, sold the car a week later and was totally ignored by the club members i met out and about for years later. If thats what scene is and maybe its not I'm happier going to odd show and chat to strangers and leave it at that.

Somehow lost original post but was considering fitting an exhaust rain cap to end of straight exhaust pipe. Why you might ask ? Well like to be different but have a straight through exhaust / sounds good but considered the tractor exhaust cap to lessen sound on tick over / around town allowing for flap to open by natural means on the open road. Seen the photos RR members posted and was interested to know opinions, good, bad and otherwise

I have to imagine the end result if i loose motivation but usually its only a day or two and I'm back at it. Agree do small amounts each day or week / its progress. When building my Jeep i had a list of 85 jobs left to complete and worked through the list through one Summer till all finished / took Jeep for mot / failed on one brake light bulb / after that experience it seemed easier as i could look back knowing with some continued motivation projects can get finished

Tongue in cheek / no to this day well over 5 years and not a wave or anything and whilst he drives the same make car when he was unable to volunteer for this that and more they forced him out but there probably are good clubs out there with the same duffers and duffereetes sitting by their car on village greens or at shows who probably have grand children but the age barrier / interests and commitment differ but when i was young the retro cars now were brand new / my first car was an Austin A35 with Speedwell goodies i never sought out car clubs and with no internet asked local mechanics questions and used Exchange & Mart or direct written letters to parts suppliers / was normal so even phoning up was rare as lots of people in 1968 didnt have phones

Only ever joined one make British car club on South Coast and 98% of members turning up sat in a back room of a cringy old pub judging the others with no interaction with other members only to ask others to volunteer for the c==p jobs no one wanted / a few younger members turned up but were in general ignored or left chatting amonst themselves. I was in the 2% interested in modifying but we actually went and talked in the car park / couldnt justify travelling to meetings for limited input. My near neighbour was a member but when i left the club and sold my car he informed me he wouldnt talk to me again as his only friends drove this particular British car / so taking that mentallity and being shunned at meetings why would anyone want to join young or old ?

Location of fire was between Crawley M23 on main road heading either out to Lingfield or East Grinstead at that roundabout / could be a local car or out on nice sunny afternoon run. Either way not good but no injuries reported / cars can be rebuilt / eventually

Its getting the car swap from anywhere else that might be the problem like dedicated swap sites but id say all the RR members ive dealt with have been brilliant and getting a car swap of this forum would as i said earlier be no problem as genuine car enthusiasts tend to help each other and the swap i got from RR site i travelled to the RR member at his work and he insisted on paying my fuel costs.

Cannot offer any advice on the family front but have in times gone by swapped a few vehicles. What appears a simple like for like swap can be anything but. Dubious individuals trying to shift dog pooh in a posh turd frock can be the scourge of the car swap world. My working principle was to listen to the sales pitch then run the registration plate through DVLA vehicle information then mot history section. Looking back just a couple of years will give you an idea how a vehicle is looked after or not. Then you have to be prepared for the infamous needs a ten pound part of Fleabay or havent got time to fix. Add the next few weeks fixing small but sometimes expensive past owner bodges and it soon becomes clear swapping a car is in the same minefield as buying a car, retro, modern or in between. However i have to say there are genuine car swappers out there. Have met one or two but thats a low percentage in my opinion. Better the devil you know as other RR members have stated is true but you never know what might be offered and through RR id expect it to be genuine.

Definitely my Suzuki Baleno / see RR thread Aquiring a blank canvas few months ago. A pocket money investment really but turning out a good car. In essence powered by a Vitara engine with 16 v head it keeps up with modern traffic / does 45 mpg and people ask me what it is. Fitted larger Mazda MX5 alloys / induction kit / rear silencer delete replaced with two side exit pipes and a CB Radio to listen to chatter on motorway journeys. Under rated even unappreciated in fact yet to see another but its a fun retro that can be modified without fear of losing its market value. Photos below.

South coast / Brighton there is Incarnation on Madeira Drive early April but check internet for date. Check out London Cartel for events / Ardingley West Sussex last year was brilliant. Goodwood Festival Of Speed / bit expensive but great day out. As stated above often local pub meets / breakfast meets turn out to be great free events full of enthusiasts.
