I assume this is the Siemens unit on the DW10/DW12 PSA lump?
A professional remapping outfit are usually able to do things like this.
How come you need to do this?

Great work! Hopefully working on cars helps her, certainly I'm happiest like a pig in sh*t when I'm up to my eyeballs in parts. I find it very therapeutic

George, your CV is outrageously impressive. I can see why you left the UK though. I'm also growing tired of the British isles and how things are done.

Ah, thought they were a different name. Jakes sound mental. I know that exhaust brakes aren't so common these days, Telmas seem to be however

Hey, I totaly forgot to awnser your message... Modified cars are a bit critical. Basically you need a certificate for everything except shock absorbers. Any altered component on the car, be it brakes, suspension, wheels, tyres, exhaust, bodykits, brakes, lights etc. needs a certificate. With this certificate Mr. TÃœV can then approve altered parts and register them into the car's paperwork. There's the possibility of having alterations approve individually - but this can get expensive and there's no guarantee stuff will get approved. And then you'd probably still need to provide a lot of paperwork stating various things. Flammabillity of GRP body kits p.e. Getting wheels approved without a sheet stating weight carrying capacity is very hard these days. Even changing tyre size needs approval by TÃœV... I however don't know what rules apply should a vehicle be brought over and maintain it's registration from the counry of origin. I guess trouble with police would be plenty. I've a feeling that wildly modified cars are getting rarer and rarer in Joymoney. Difficult to awnser this question. And many times it just depends on how ignorant or willing an engineer is to get approval. For my engine conversion I had some preliminary talks with the engineer from TÃœV. I had a huge pile of all sorts of paper work. And it was nothing far from stock, I basically just tranfered a stock engine into a shell of the same model car, just with two doors less. Bolting a turbo or super charger to an engine - you'd have to pay a couple of thousand euros for an emissions certificate (no guarantee for a pass, you need to pay for the certificate either way). and so on and on. It's difficult. I'm screwed
Modified diesel Passat. OEM 4x4 conversion. Custom exhaust made from half TDI half V6 4x4.
Main biggie is different code despite same engine. No cat or EGR, Huge turbo.
KW coilovers and 18" Phaeton wheels

THE thread that made me sign up for Retro Rides. Jan, you're a legend my man. Plus I love seeing photos of your beautiful country, hopefully may become my beautiful country in a couple years. Don't worry, that exhaust has plenty of life left in it, I didn't even weld the one on my mother's Rover 75 this year as I as out of wire, just slapped the exhaust paste on for another year's ticket That driveshaft would worry me however. In your honest opinion, actually how strict is the TUV, what is it like for modified vehicles? If I move I will be brining a rechtslenker with me (sentimental value) but it's quite far from stock...

I went through a phase of excessive lowering my cars a few years ago, couldn't drive anyway fun at all. Set of proper KW Variant 2 and a shallow sump with a sensible tyre profile and I can drive pretty much balls out on any country road with no longer paranoia about bottoming out. Next mod is a factory steel sump guard that joins the front legs to the subframe, if that is hitting the road you're going too hard!

I'm lucky enough to rent a cattle shed from my landlord down the end of the drive. I live in the country so any space is hard gotten round here. No power as it's storage only but it's dry and secure. My MK2, 3 and 4 Golfs are in there waiting for their Frankenstein sewing together.
All my work is dne on the drive, not much fun in the winter but if I'm very stuck my mums garage I can get 1/2 the car under cover for jobs. I just use a marquee or a car cover for csrs left out for a while.
I can't afford a hundred bob a week and don't want to have to travel an hour each way to the city, motivation is poor as it is this year
