From what I've read Jaguar were just being conservative with the timing for the fuels of the time. I've fitted on the a couple of XJ40 and a 3.6 XJS and never had any issues, just made them feel loads better! I think I'll be having to do this! Not cheap, as said, but considering the power hike if that's right it's a bargain. Doesn't seem like a complicated bit of kit though

That's an impressive increase! Begs the question - What's the drawback? Surely Jaguar would've advanced the timing from the factory if it increases economy, power and torque? Is it just more likely to pink? Used to advance the timing on my wife's old Corolla and it'd turn into a rocketship 😂 would pink like mad up hills though

rodharris83 Phil2600s never heard of the Andy bracket - what sort of difference does it make? I guess I'll buy a crank sensor and cross my fingers! I can always send it back I guess

Slower to catch, then not at all? I'd be checking earths before anything else. Well, except battery voltage. No she's spinning over just as quick - it would start after 4 or 5 spins and increased over the week to 10+ and then at the weekend it's not firing at all. I need to check fuel and spark and take it from there but I've had a few cars where people say things like, 'oh wiggle fuse 7 - always happens' and I was hoping there might be a magical XJ40 fix before I start fault finding!

Turns out the steel MINI wheels I bought for the XJ40 have the wrong centrebore (too small). I could easily use a hole saw to cut the centrebore larger but it wouldn't be completely accurate. I've always believed that the centrebore isn't load bearing and so a centrebore that is too big would actually be fine (where the hub and nuts bear the load and the tapered nuts centralize the wheel). Could anyone confirm this before I cut the centres larger? I keep reading conflicting posts!

She let me down!! Had a few days when it didn't catch as quickly when starting and then just wouldn't start at all. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. Any XJ40 specific issues I could check for?

Hi guys - fitted a new alternator to my ca18det (200s s13 engine) and it has been a bit ropey since I dd it about a year ago.
It works, but only after engine revs hit 4500rpm or so. After that it works all the time at any revs until it's switched off. It then won't work again until the revs hit around 4.5k
Anyone have any ideas? It's too late to send it back - I had to keep it at the time as it was a last minute fix to get to a show and it's ended up staying. Been using the car for a week or so and it's a real pain.

Hi all here's a video of the day I went to the field to pick the XK8 up Made a bit of progress so far - new battery in and working well, no lights on the dash now I've tested the roof and it goes up and down well but the rear windows don't do what they're supposed to do and need manual intervention. I've replaced the key fob batteries but not tested them yet. Managed to get a pair of wings for free! One of my subscribers watched the video and got in touch - don't you love the car community? As it happens - the front wings aren't bad but one has a really nasty crease that would need filling so replacement is a much better option. That's it for now as I still haven't managed to have a proper look around it. Part 2 of the series will be a close look at the condition and what needs to be done. Hope you enjoy!

I'm going to need to be able to manoeuvre her in and out of the drive so I can swap cars about so I'm going to buy a battery for it
-edit-
I've just bought a battery for it 😁

So far I've managed to find out the battery is goosed and needs replacing and it's got some rather extensive sill corrosion. I need to get the wheels off and pressure wash the whole thing (caked in mud) so I can see what's what.
Now - I have more pressing projects (getting Capri ready for next season and getting the Type 2 camp ready for spring) but I can't help but want to check this over now.
I think I'm going to clean all the much off underneath and prod and poke all of the loose crumbly rust out so I can get a good mental picture of what's needed to be done. I think it's going to be a somewhat steep learning curve in terms of automotive welding but I'm happy to take that plunge! *Note to self - insert future feelings about this below 👇

Have you ever seen the one from Tomorrow Never Dies? It was at Alford Transport Museum a good few years back and I managed to get a properly good look round it. Always kinda fancied one after that. Been a couple in Bond films I think. Didn't they use one as a bad guy car?
