Tyres have a really high energy per kilo, you might as well recycle them by chucking them on the fire in bits to keep the house warm this winter. I remember a prototype power station which was fueled by burning tyres a few years ago, never heard anything more about it. I guess the environmental concerns put paid to it, but I'd have thought with the correct filtration it would have been fine. Also remember the row about heating a swimming pool with heat provided by the local crematorium, the NIMBYs soon put paid to that one....🙄

MK2 son sold a Ford Bob V6 inlet manifold to a guy in eire. Postage was expensive (£48) and we got the post office to fill forms etc because we couldn't make head or tail of the online forms. It's now been returned as 'failed electronic clearance', I think, because their label is damaged. Anyone had problems? It was described on the forms as an engine manifold, not sure what else we could have done. Also the form states CN23, which I think is wrong, as a value of less than £270 it should be CN22 Our local friendly parcelforce guy has said we should claim the post back, anyone ever done this? TIA

I'm sure you mean the barbecue, not Barbie herself. Oh I don't know, both have their advantages....😃

Weather warnings have made the news in the UK, so it must be bad if it's pushed the football off headline news! Are you swimming yet? 😱

Wish I could get rid of tyres 4 for a tenner, cheapest I've found locally is the local council tip, 5 tyres for £20, but only 5 a month Solved in part by using 2 cars.....😆

I break the bead using a hi-lift or farm Jack under a towbar, or other immoveable object. Bead breaking is the difficult part, once you've done it getting the tyre off is easy. Could probably use a scissor Jack or trolley Jack if you don't have a hi-lift
Edit- I have broken beads by driving a front wheel over the rim laid flat on the floor, whilst watching out of the drivers window, but that only works if your vehicle is heavy enough!

Following with interest, we've got 3 cortinas (all mk2's) but none roadworthy, would also love to get involved if (when??) one of them is up to it. Btw for anyone interested, the massive amphibious landing craft has a twin in Hunstanton, Norfolk, it's called the wash monster, painted appropriately, and you can go for rides out to sea from the beach in it 😁

Thanks for suggestions all. Next point of call is the NSRA Swap meet at Melbourne, Yorks, on 23/10, in the hope that we can find something that has escaped the USA already, and avoid import duties. So far we have discovered that a series landy clutch is the correct centre, bur only 9 1/2 inch. It'd do to al least get it mobile, but not really the right solution

Great pics again, is that you part way up the mineshaft?? 😱 There's a good documentary about the Ghan on one of Chris Tarrants extreme rail journeys, covers the abandoned trains too. Bought anything from that scrapyard as a momento to bring home? 😆

I always wonder what the hell I'm doing with my life getting up at 6am on a weekend to go to shows. My favourite thing about shows is on the journey there seeing other cars on the way. This is especially good with Bicester as I have a 2 hour journey, but it heads across the M4 and past Oxford, so there are always interesting fellow travellers along those bits. Last time we went to the Le Man's 24hr (2009), every service stop on the way through France was a car show, saw an amazing variety of stuff, it was as good as the racing....😁

Haven't done the early thing for a while, and certainly not today, it's BTCC final, even if I'm only watching on the box. I'll be doing the early start at the end of the month, 145 miles for the NSRA Northern swap meet Have a good day 👍
