I have an old pre fab concrete double garage that suffered from condensation. It was not horrifically bad, however sometimes i would go in there and there would be moisture all over my cars and bikes, which I found very distressing!
I also have an old Victorian house that was prone to a bit of condensation and while searching the web I found a product called a Nuaire PIV which basically pumps air from the loft area into the main house after it has been filtered. It is incredibly effective and the house feels warmer and there is never any condensation on any of the windows. (Best £400 I have spent on the house – check out the reviews on Amazon) So i thought what about replicating the PIV system for the garage, and while I was at it why not it run off the solar panel battery charger system I have in the garage? It works like this – above the side entrance is a wooden panel, this has a large (shrouded against the elements) industrial PC fan in it that blows air into the garage, the hypothesis being that this will pressurise the garage internally and the air will escape through all the various nooks and crannies. The fan is powered by an old car battery that is being charged during the day light by an 80w 12v solar panel – this means that fan is running 24/7. Between the fan and battery is a PWM controller to adjust the speed. I was a bit sceptical about this as essentially its just moving air about – however it definitely works, its warmer and dryer in the garage – no more condensation to be found.

I have refurbished the mono wiper. The original was really slow to complete its circuit, i suspected all was not well. Thankfully i saved the old wiper mech from my late multivalve diesel and so i decided to re grease and swap over. Surely they are the same. of course they are. Well most of it is...
The rubber trim is different, which could be a bit problematic, however i came up with a plan and had a go at making a vid about a whole process. TBH, its a bit cr4p - however the next vid should be better....

I had a go with a Mac vid editing software programme and made this... Spa trip 2016. You can almost feel the old merc ride quality in the vid

Greetings from Ol’Blighty Karl!
I have inspected the poly bushes I made and they are showing some signs of distress, I think its because there is quite a small compressive layer. I would personally recommend the Meyle HD units.
My diff is from a SL500 R129 2.65 – personally I think the 2.65 ratio is perfect. Your 420 diff should have a big wing backplate on it?* If it is without the ASR and then fit a Quiafe ATB when you can afford it. Good and strong. Ps - a 2.24 will equate to around 40mph/1000rpm – a bit long, 60mph at 1500rpm?
*Now – if a R129/w124 v8 rear subframe fits a 124 wagon then I’d DEFINATLY do that. It has a stronger front cross member and the rear member has wider spacing for the big wing* rear diff plate and associated stronger bushings. A far superior arrangement.
I’m planning to do this this winter – I’ll zinc coat the subframe too!
Good luck!

Gloves – get good quality ones.
Cleaning - Solopol Classic cleaner – used in the railway industry, best cleaner I’ve ever used.
Moisturiser – Interestingly you will be surprised how much dirt you can remove by just sticking a blob on your hands and massaging it in and then wiping off. Works very well with bike chain marks on your legs too.

Bumpy old roads too so you can see she's comfy. Note how good the mid range power is :-)

Very nice. Screaming rotary would make it even nicer... Thanks! There is a very long term plan/dream to install an Italian engine with two cylinders and a 90 degree angle... Yes - a bit of Ducati Desmo action would be great fun!

I’m not really into car stereos, however the 26year old Blaupunkt head unit was shot. So I have been collecting some parts – a VDO head unit with an orange display and retro looks (and the W124 instrument cluster is marked VDO too so it looks period) and some Rainbow speakers specifically for the w124. These are very expensive new – however every so often they appear on the net new and cheaper (half price) – so I sourced a set for the front and rear. Huge improvement over the OE W124 setup – not the most bass laden set up, however it will more than do. Any subtle sub recommendations? One of those spare wheel jobbies? Annoyingly my father was looking for a similar set up and bought one more recently - while the ‘VDO’ designation had disappeared from the front of the head unit and had been replaced with ‘Continental’, they added DAB and some Blu tooth stuff too. It still looks retro and came with a windscreen stick-on DAB aerial. I’m a big fan of the DAB stations, particularly Planet Rock which is a bit dodgy in my area reception wise; In his car the new DAB set up was clear as a bell. Pleased for him but really oh ‘bu&&er’ I should have cleaned the interior up for these shots – honestly – it looks a year old tops. Fantastic quality.

I’d love to report back that the new bearing in the gearlever base has sorted the rattling. It has not. It is a bit better however it’s still there. I suspect it’s the selector rod UJ that goes into the gearbox. I should have fitted a Racetec booted one that they use on single seaters etc however they are about £200… and to fit it requires the removal of the gear box…
Due to the new gearing and larger rear tyres the rattle does not start until you doing over the ton I top so I can live with that.
What do you think of the knob? Got it from the states and I’m really pleased with the simple design. Fits well in the palm of your hand.
In these shots you can see the only interior clues to this cars power, the knob and the funny little gauge.

These are Padgid discs. I have used this make before and they have been fine, however the casting quality and the finish around the vents is nothing like the quality of the Merc OE stuff that is only a bit extra £....
