If you're going to use a series 2 engine in a series 1 you'll also have problems with the rev counter ( mechanical on a series 1 and electronic on a series 2) the cable goes into the back of the head which is blanked off on the series 2 head. Would you put the HF head on the 1.3s engine? That's what I've heard so I've binned the idea of the series 2 engine in the car as it'd be too much grief to do. So the plan at the moment is use either ; 1. Use the bits from the seized 130 series engine to put back together a fairly original 130 engine with the 1200 130 series pistons and the 140 head. As I've got most of that engine in useable parts. This would then be original- ish well at least the right engine parts for the car. 2. Use the 1300 block pistons etc that I've got coming from another lancia guy. To build a 1300 series 1 engine that would be a bit faster and use the 140 head . This wouldn't be original in the strictest sense but fairly simple to do and a more powerful faster engine. 3 Spend a bit more money and build a 1400 race engine with larger pistons and use the best stuff from all the various bits . Use the parts and head from the series 2 and bore out that block for the bigger pistons etc. This could be a later project for the red series 1 fulvia I've got waiting in the wings.

The screw in the nozzle is a known "supposed" fix but I don't see its an easy way out as to my mind it would be easier to put a new one in. Its a nightmare to get to without taking the crank case front off and if you've got that far....just do it properly...? I've been looking through my bits of engines and I've got the bits to build the 1216cc back together. I was trying to put a 1300cc together which should have a bit more grunt. I've had the offer of some 1300 bits to buy so may be able to do that still. The spare engine is too much grief to fit as its for a series 2. So ....the plan, I think is slowly forming.

this is great. bookmarked... And great welding/ painting. I really miss my Wolseley 1300 gt. It had a whole bunch of mini cooper type mods to it like lightened flywheel ,racing gearbox, gas flowed head, racing distributor, Hif6 carb tube manifold and an LCB exhaust. It was probably only about 90HP but was quick. On the outside it looked like an old grandad car with the little wolseley light in the grill. The exhaust was the only way you could tell. Wooden dash with the vanden plas trims and leather seats. I loved the hydrolastic suspension too it was fairly bouncy front to back but rock solid side to side so great round corners and smooth as silk over the bumps. I let it sit fairly hard and not too pumped up with fluid and then it wasnt too bouncy. The trouble was the brakes were easy to cook and the wheel hub nuts used to undo themselves if you booted it about. I blew the engine on it in the end and even after the rebuild it wasnt quite the same. I had a rain guard over the distributor and coil as the A series engines often stop dead in the wet. Great stuff fella keep it up.

Well the subframe is out and went fairly well even though I forgot to disconnect the brake hoses. So they got a bit stretched. I was wondering why the subframe wasnt coming down so well then saw the whole lot was swinging on the hoses... Doh. Made a sort off rolling dolly so that the front of the car is supported and now I can roll the car in and out of the garage. Need a bigger garage...car subframe with gearbox and a pair of engines doesnt leave any room at all to actually do anything else. Pictures to follow.

The subframe was dropped but not removed a few months ago when the boxes were done. I didn't do that bit of welding but there were new bolts put in and stuff like that. So hopefully it won't be a pain. We will see ....there's still alot to sort out.

A series 1 back plate for the series 2 engine ![](http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8ydNJgR90uw/WB4XhskSWSI/AAAAAAAACnY/1gkUuY1VhDYsda_h0JZ4yAbFjqGfYilPwCK4B/s320/WP_20161105_002-709216.jpg) and it fits so that means I have to swap the fly wheels and find a clutch for the 1300 that fits and hopefully we can move forward. Think I'm going to take out the subframe as its easier to fiddle that lot together with it out of the car. Well its only disconnect the steering , take off the gear lever and then its the 6 bolts and done .....how hard can it be ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) ??( cheeky wink with that ) Thanks to the guys at the Lancisti Forum for help and suggestions.

looks like the engine will not fit as easily as I hoped. Its probably not just a swap. The spare is not a series 1 engine by the look of it. Getting a bit grumpy and frustrated (stronger words have been used with this). Ive now got two cars totally in bits and neither likely to be driveable soon. Grrrrrrr. What you really want at a time like this, is to swap for a rusty Fiat 124 In all seriousness, we all have setbacks with working on cars, just have a look at pictures of cool Fulvia's, and wait for the mojo to kick in again, then hit ebay (both in the UK and Italy) and start working on the car again Thanks for this.... I'm just a bit tired of feeling really nearly there then theres another set back. On the plus side the spare engine that I thought would fit could be from a 1.3s which is a good bit more powerful and if I can work out a way to do it there should be a bit more grunt in the old girl. From a pretty 1200 to a 1300 S Rally car. So heres some Mojo boosters ![](https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TLTwLlK94JQ/VUZgVO2jH1I/AAAAAAAABKg/dMXtqLy_2bk/s640/4260633.jpg) coupe 1200 HF ![](https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UwZvYHcLoSY/VPGORmEYRxI/AAAAAAAAA58/5lbrWHGhYmE/s1600/10885344_1516900708587589_3627140695412091824_n.jpg) The F&M ![](https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Tfg2R5q2jWQ/VPGOTb1ZNPI/AAAAAAAAA6c/opQePEBXeYA/s1600/10915253_1525738111037182_2994229759704559597_n.jpg) Zagato ![](https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q7Q9d5aoi3c/VPGMGovCvlI/AAAAAAAAA1g/QSsKo9VTvmE/s1600/1473010_1409624372607625_956405560_n.jpg) Vere Lancia Spider ![](https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xhGbj6JeWRs/VPGL3ktjevI/AAAAAAAAAx0/Tb7YI5y6AbM/s1600/10354828_1537723706505289_3620506786982495320_n.jpg) nice pair of HF Fanalones ![](https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ihIJiqJtxvw/VPGMAGfmI8I/AAAAAAAAA0A/kEZxj35gb88/s1600/10513296_10153337619619689_5256186155232366224_n.jpg) Ive got loads of them AH thats better...

Might be easier refitting the alternative engine if you can assemble it on the subframe for access before refitting the complete drivetrain/suspension/subframe. Easier to check & attend to anything else required when on the subframe too? Now theres a plan.....!!!

yeah the one i saw was total standard driven by a mature gent but seem to recall seeing one with roll cage in around Brighton / Peacehaven a while back Think I know the standard one. Its a really good series 1. Ive seen it at the LMC Track Day at Goodwood. Very Nice car.

So having now had a good look at the engine bay its not that many more bolts to take the subframe out with all the suspension and gearbox attached......HHHMMMmm wonder whether its going to be a step too far and I will get bogged down by too much restoring bits instead of getting it on the road???
Whats the thoughts of you more experienced builders and restorers bearing in mind the engine swap could be fairly quick to do but I don't know how good the spare one is ...even if it runs??? So far it turns over by hand.
Subframe out is a large step away from getting it MOT'd soon but I will be able to clean up all the 50 year old muck and rust in the engine bay and check the subframe over stucturally.
Errrm.

I hope you don't find too many problems with the engine, what a shame about the bellhousing, are you going to have it welded? :-( probably will raid my spares for a replacement. Luckily the fulvia crank case is made up of about three bits of cast ally so shouldnt be too bad to piece one together.

Thats a shame about the oil pressure. Worth checking the centre main bearing before doing any more major work? I remember from when I had my Fulvia that they are a common wear point which causes both rough running and the loss of oil pressure. www.viva-lancia.com/fulvia/qanda/engine/bearings.phpAlso, not meaning to be patronising, but you are aware of the Fulvia's oil pressure characteristics, that its quite common for the gauge to read practically nothing at idle. www.viva-lancia.com/fulvia/qanda/engine/oilpress.phpI will have a good look at the main bearing . You haven't been patronizing at all but I do know about the oil pressure character istics of a fulvia. It was never that high at idle but was always good at a few revs. This is as though the gauge doesn't work at all ...I'm fairly sure it does work now. It s funny because I will usually have a good look through your blog to check stuff that I'm up to on my fulvia. Its a great source for us fulvisti.

So are you stripping the engine? Probably not a bad idea to a full inspection / refresh of rings, shells and gaskets anyway - At least it will then be easy to paint the engine bay, the lump itself and all the fiddly bits in between! Probably will fit the spare engine that was for the other car so I can carry on getting it on the road and then have a good look inside this one. I want to use the head from this engine as its the HF spec one on my 1200 car. The spare engine is a standard 1300 series 1 but as I say this engine is a 1200 with the HF head and a bit special.

Followed a F reg red one through Worthing in Sussex the other day / in very good condition but blue smoke coming out of it / a real treat to see one again just up the road from me, don't know who that could be but there are a one or two in sussex hiding away. I followed a very modded fulvia along the A27 near Brighton one with TVR round lights on the back a few weeks ago.... I caught up then it sped away and I couldnt keep up in my van. It sounded lovely.
