I thought he was a shepherd... Unless it was one of those 'kebab and fish & chips' places that mashes two takeaways together neither offers much experience as an auto electrician mind... I get what you mean about wiring though. At some point there's a really strong urge to just say 'sod it, I'll rip the whole lot out and remake a loom myself'. Haven't yet given in to that urge so can't say whether it just makes things worse!
Well it's all a bit of a fairytale innit. But I'm sure his dad was a Carpenter and he followed in his footsteps until he realise it was the fcuking Messiah. but nonetheless been pretty rank ,at electrics that we can all agree. After spending what seems pretty much better part of week doing the electrics, yeah it probably would have been a lot easier just to rip it all out and start again but that would also take quite a long time to do.
Any how DHL turn up with the goods today. Something even Jesus couldn't have done. not a fish or slice of bread in sight.
Not bad 8 day after doing the bank thing boom it arrives from the other side of the globe. Sexy as fcuk and thats just the box. I did think about doing one of those videos "the unboxing things " but not my thing. Couldn't even bother taking in photographs of what was in it, it was just like Christmas, as a kid, just had to sort out what was really important and get it on the car. 2 hours later it was trial fitted to the car, all working and going up and down the box. Tomorrow be t making sure everything works properly, cutting out and making a decent surround and fitting in in the downshift sensor for the output for the ECU/Dash. Then adding more to the clusterfuck of wiring. I've obviously missed the post or forgot, what gearbox have you fitted?

It's not about that tho. If I wanted summat I could use all the power all the time I'd have built a 250bhp civic or something.. this is different, very very different. Makes the hairs on back of your neck stand up and your eyes widen haha. You concentrate and you focus. And if you don't it really will bite you haha. Ha, ha. That says it all. 👍

I'd echo those posts above. I'm another that's not too fussed what the BHP is, overall it's about driveability. I've driven a couple of cars that would be considered having excess power, later one of them had the power dialed back and it was all the better for it. Obviously, I'm making generalisations and it's horses for courses and personal preference. Whatever 500+ bhp and even more torque is not to sniffed at especially with only c.1400kg to push.
Matt, I have been meaning to ask, does your ECU have the option of loading dual Maps?

Now that you have it sorted and you can brag about 500+ bhp ( lucky sod 😉) do keep up the posts. 👍

BRILLIANT! Delighted for you👍
P.s. you better buy some rear tyres before they go up in price again.

All back together. It's driving great but I haven't logged all the operating parameters yet as the ECU needs a few hundred miles to fully reset. Early indications are looking good like boost pressure and AFR. I had one hiccup, major flat spots between 2500-3000 rpm, swapped the Bosch MAF for a Pierburg which sorted the issue. I reckon the Bosch MAF didn't like the change in boost pressure combined with the porting. It's not an unknown issue and it's popular to use a Pierburg when chasing power from these engines.

I'm guessing there's few and far really good one's about at this stage. When I initially bought one 15 years ago good cars were easy to find, not anymore. Even the one I have only looks good from forty foot at night. Still, they're underrated cars and a nice change from the usual.
As for the silver, my current is just that and I had a wagon version many moons ago and it was silver too but as I mentioned previously the colour always seems to clean up well from my experience.
Looking forward to updates and happy motoring.

Well bought 👍 (Didn't see that coming at all) …the wife took the news well quite a surprise! Ha, that's what you think now! Looks very clean and no matter what people about resale silver (744 Brilliant Silver) it does shine very well. Happy motoring.

Even after all these years the 944 is still a great looking car. So much so, I can still remember the first time I saw one.
Keep up the great work.

Pressure tested the system, using just 5 psi from my tyre inflater and soapy water. Found a leak too at the I.C. inlet hose. Can't have that, any boost pressure loss no matter how minor would upset the inner child in me!🙂

One other part I forgot to mention was the S/C belt tensioner. I reckoned it was no harm fitting a new one along with a new slightly shorter belt due to the smaller S/C pulley. I originally changed the tensioner about 30k miles ago so it was ok but I'd hate to have any belt slippage and the more boost that's generated the greater the tensioner and belt have to work. I painted the min and max and pointer marks so I can clearly see them when the tensioner is fitted. When the belt is on the slim line will be within the rectangle , the closer the line is to either end of the rectangle equates to the condition of the belt and these belts do streach. It takes c.30 bhp to spin the S/C @ max boost pressure, so a good condition belt and tensioner are a must.

Next step was to replace the 4.0 bar FPR (stock is 3.8) with a 4.5 bar one. With porting and the FPR the general consensus on power will be around the 250 bhp mark. That should be fine and fast enough for a daily driver that's used for only a few months of the year. Being candid I'm not too pushed what the figure is, once car is driving well with a nice power band I'll be a happy bunny.

Improving inlet pipe flow. An important aspect of any supercharger set up is the easy flow of induction air. Any articles I've come across on superchargers be it Roots or Twin-screw always mention having the minimum restriction possible as critical. The photos below are self explanatory, I removed all of flow straightener which was rather significant from the exit of the inlet pipe which is small in itself. I'm sure it's fitment did the job with the stock boost pressure. The cross section area is still only approx 320mm sq . The stock inlet pipe is probably o.k. to feed the S/C for the stock boost pressure but with close to a 100% increase in pressure any restriction can't be good and this modification is well documented for Eaton M62. A one off custom inlet pipe with a custom straightener would be ideal but I can't fabricate something like that so it's a case of make do. I will look into porting the pipe and the S/C inlet in due course. Cleaned up. Material removed, 3/8 10mm socket for scale. Done.

Looking the dogs nuts as usual. Great that the coolant issue is resolved, I bet you were happy. Love the encounter with the Golf.
Yeah, I'd say your sound with those plugs and gap. I use them gapped to 0.8mm/0.032'' with 13 psi and no issues.
