I love these cars - one of the best looking shapes. I have a few of them in project status. One is going to be getting an XJR engine as well with a manual box. Here's some inspiration thedrivenman.com/images/KrygerLarge.jpg

Wow, why would anyone put that engine in an Escos ? .....I guess, just a case of getting hold of a cheap Cossie shell that wasn't knackered. Just a case of getting hold of a cheap Escort Cosworth shell. Good luck with that one! Anyway have an Escort Cosworth packing a BOA....

Crack free dash Repair cracks under seat mounts on drivers side Underneath Started to collect some new bits Removed rear sections of rusty fuel line - these were ready to crumble. The fuel lines are causing me some bother trying to get the right fittings to join up the 10mm and 8mm steel line to new sections while keeping the same fittings for fuel filter and pump. /// farm6.staticflickr.com/5467/8770355909_57e255bc29.jpgDoes anyone know the correct terminology for this type of flare fitting?

Picked up a few parts today. Bought the dash - not a single crack on it - looks like new on top ;D pictures to follow. Also decided to buy the pinstripe interior - the jury is out on this for now - they are very eighties Porsche but I would prefer black leather I think. One thing I was surprised about is how flat the seats feel when you sit on them.

The first few days with a new car - the honeymoon period - good time to make progress..amazing what work can happen in those days and then come to a standstill Anyway back to a brief update. I loctited the flywheel bolts and torqued them up. Hopefully the engine is OK otherwise - general signs are OK - coolant was blue rather that rusty water when drained, oil on dipstick is nice and clean and the oil filter is a Porsche branded one rather than generic. The solid brake pipes to each caliper will need to be replaced - no maajor deal but the bleed nipples seized and broke on both rear calipers. Long story short - but battling with easy outs etc I failed to get the nipples out and ended up cracking the caliper bodies. The dash was cracked as mentioned before so decided to take it out. I was contemplating what to do with this - one option was filling in the cracks and either covering the lot with leather or maybe getting the top flocked. I found a seller though who says he has an uncracked 924 dash so I'll have a look at that first. Looks better in the photo than in real life So this is how the interior currently stands Carpets were all wet so I need to find all the leaks - the sunroof drains were not blocked but the rubber has seen better days. I suspect a small leak through craked seam sealer under the battery tray as well. I've found a 924 / 944 specialist in Ireland (rare) so am trekking up the country to him on Monday to collect a spare engine - just in case front spot / indicator bezel Lower spotlight Airbox - thinking of removing the induction kit that is fitted Accelerator cable - mine is frayed Rear calipers Black carpet A supposedly crack free dash from a 924 with standard colour instrument surrounds He also has a black pinstripe interior which I am going to look at - I'm not really a pinstripe fan and would prefer black leather or black with the Porsche script but I'll have a look at it anyway before deciding. I also started looking at wheels even though I quite like the D90's. I just missed out on a set of 7.5 X 16 Azev A's on ebay tonight - they only went for £108 in the end but there were some issues with the seller not wanting to ship anywahere or not even wanting a courier to collect. My fuel lines are also very crusty looking where they kick up to the tank from the underfloor. There was a slight fuel leak when I jacked up the front of the car around this area. As they are all one solid steel piece it means dropping the rear beam to replace as a unit. Still debating whether to do thsi now or not but even if I think I will add a union in the lines to make replacement in the future easier.

Excellent build. Do you have any pictures of the tubular chassis being made? I'm planning something similar but with an MGB body. The Mazda wheel base is a little longer than the MG and I was trying to decide what to do about this. I didn't know the PPF from an auto was shorter so thanks a million for that info. Off to search the web now for more info - do you know exactly how much shorter?

Timed this well with purchasing it just at the start of my week off work. Dropped the engine yesterday to investigate the flywheel issue Good news for me - the seller was telling the truth when he said there was a new clutch fitted Flywheel was loose as I thought. All bolts were only finger tight and the dowel (which was only a split clevis pin) was broken. Should it have been a dowel in here? Great news for me - the crank isn't damaged ;D so I'll clean up a bit around the engine bay when the lump is out.

Thanks I've a couple of S2000 seats picked up a few weeks ago I wanted to try out. Wrong colour for this car obviously but they don't look too bad. The thigh support is just that little bit too high though with the low 944 steering wheel. I've been reading one of the Octane magazine writers stories of his recently purchased `83 944 also without power steering. He`s on a different budget to me though.

I'm in Killarney.
Hopefully this weekend I'll have the engine out to assess what's wrong. I'll probably get the spare engine anyway just to have as backup.

Finally got it into my shed and started ripping. Black carpet is definitely on the shopping list. These rear seats were manky. I know Porsche did some dodgy interiors but surely not this tweed finish? Some nice details like an alloy jack Drivers front seat mounts have started to crack so a small bit of welding needed here. The last car I ripped up was an MGB GT and I have a Range Rover classic and a few classic Jag projects as well. I know they were in different leagues in their day but working on this it really does show how badly built the British cars were - especially when it came to rustproofing.

It got increased to 56 euro in the last budget The car was advertised for 1200 euro but I could have bargained him down a good bit from that I'd say. I swapped an A6 quattro and got a few quid with the Porsche as well so it was reasonable enough. There have been a few for sale for money like that or even less if they require some work. Not too many '83's coming up yet but I'm sure they'll start appearing.

I was wondering how you figured out it didn't have power steering until I noticed the p/s reservoir bracket in the engine bay shot. Don't know how it drives yet but the steering seems very light when pushing it around the yard. Haven't looked into the rear arches yet through the vents. Should have really done that before I bought it but let's face it I'd have bought it anyway. ;D Sumpcracker you surely can't reshell yours - it's kind of famous at this stage. What's the general consensus on the best shocks for these? Bearing in mind that Irish roads are wibblepoo My plans for this are to just get it running and use it for the summer. I'll try and gather up some parts and then clean it up over winter. Having thoughts about a more modern management system or turbo conversions......otbperhaps just try to preserve the balance of the original design - to be decided once I have a few miles under my belt.

Thanks for the info folks. I hadn't come across those sites before. It's a square dash car but the dash has been colour coded The dash has the usual cracks as well. Engine bay - although it looks like the car was originally a sort of silver someone went to great lengths to do a proper paint job. Looks like it was probably stripped to a bare shell when it was painted. Rear shot Mark - the tax thing was a major bonus. Couldn't even consider one of these otherwise.

I swapped my '00 Audi A6 Avant 1.8T Quattro for this last weekend. I've always loved 944 but wanted a black one (inspired by sumpcrackers) but when I saw this I had to have it. Most of my friends don't like the colour but I love it! Here it is after a good wash. It had been lying idle for a while (couple of years I'd say) so had a lot of moss on it and is a bit damp inside (sunroof seal) No rot though - just a bit of cosmetic stuff on the lower front of rear arches. I bought it with a knock in the engine and I didn't hear it turn over before I bought it so I took a chance - although I have another engine lined up for only €250 so not that much of a risk. I've since discovered that the flywheel seems to be a bit loose on the crankshaft - turning the engine over by hand you can see the flywheel rock a degree or two extra. Not sure how this is as there should be a dowel there. The clutch was supposed to have been replaced not too long before it was laid up so I assume the loose flywheel is related. Hopefully the crank isn't damaged but will have to do a bit of ripping to find out. It's got the later wheels and some funky spacers - I don't think I'm all that sure about these as there are no spigots. Might have to look into a set of 17"s Front's Rear's - there's actually 2 spacers here! Inside the original front seats have been replaced with Cobra Monaco's - these might have to go as well if I can find some nice black leather as an alternative. Trying to decide now if it's easier to take out the engine to check the clutch / flywheel situation or take off the torque tube and gearbox. I'll also need to have a look at the brakes as the calipers are seizing on after the brakes are pressed. Besides Rennlist can anyone recommend a good online resource for these? Also would appreciate recommendations on good and cheap parts suppliers.
