After quite a few belgian lagers I agreed to help rewire my mates new project - I didn't expect THIS Album imgur.com/a/heEgCWhat he forgot to tell me is that it hasn't got any wiring to start with. Anyone know of any resources that could help me get started? I have done work like this before but I always have had a semi working loom as a backbone so I am not too sure where to start - I know that how you would start a job like this can have a huge impact on how smoothly it goes later on.... I was going to back out but I could not refuse that face! (the project, not my mate)

Haha sounds like fun mate!!
A mate of mine uses beal.co.uk as a resource for electrical bits, and generally a good little shop for workshop stuff.
Maybe search eBay for a wiring loom, find something cheap and local then go from there?
What Powertrain has it got??

Is that not VW type 2 based? Mechanically at least? Its not going to have anything much in it different to a type 2 so I think if it were me I'd start with a wiring diagram for one of them and work from there. Also: www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/www.autosparks.co.uk/

I did the very same with my mates ford pop (all be it I wasn't drunk lol) I planned to get a bit of block board and draw out what wiring I need and run the wires on it held on with nails then tape it together then fit it to the car then crimp the end with the appropriate crimps and then power it up it sounds easy in theory lol. You can get a wiring kit online that the hotrod guys use thats what I'm hoping to get to work with, when I remember where to get the kit I will post up a link

Is that not VW type 2 based? Mechanically at least? Really early Matadors had VW mechanicals, then the T2 put a stop to that. After this, Tempo worked more closely with Hanomag - both eventually being taken over by Mercedes. So it might be worth checking for similarities there.

The drivetrain is a flat 4 1200 lump, with pre 66 5 stud wheels. Needs upgrading, and at least improvement of the cooling as I can't work out where it would get it's supply of cold air from - It's one of the only VW based vehicles that drives the front wheels - You essentially sit on top of the gearbox with the engine just behind you - It's gonna be damn noisy in there as only a thin plywood case separates you from the engine.
I am going to have to give it a mouth - Got some of that magnetic stuff that cab drivers use for their signs.
Thanks for the beal.co.uk site - never heard of them - going to build a list of what he needs. Wire. Lots and lots of wire, some plastic conduit / wrap / gas soldering iron / fusebox ... this list will run and run. My idea was to do the front first then the back and then join up to switches etc....
Quite looking forward to getting stuck in to be honest ....

Are they of no use to you? Try beal.org.uk (I will double check my suggestions next time) The real site has lots of bits that I always seem to struggle to find; grommets, plugs, terminals, trim clips etc They have box sets too which are quite handy to have
