Been a while since ive updated.

I would like to say less than £1000 but thats only because I want one and the values are creeping up. I have poll'd at 2-3K as I think they are awesome and if I had space id be pming you today as its such a nice example. If it was up for £2K id be fine with that, If it was up for £3k, it wouldnt take much convincing for me to give that because of the condition.

At the moment I'm still on the 1.2 driveshafts and hubs. so standard track width, brakes, suspension and hubs. Ill need to have another think about the brakes but for now I just need to get it running. Exhaust and fuel pipe first, get it ready to wire and then fiddle with the rest later.

It'll have 1 silencer and a chamber to resonate in, so it will be loud still yes, but at least it'll have a box, I'm used to cars without nowadays. If they work id like to make a few sets yes, still working on the design.

Exhaust was started on friday. Plan is to have a discreet sidey, shooting towards the floor like a diesel. I just need to join that cat (without its innards) to the rear and mount it up. I think that my downpipe will clear the subframe or I'm oging to have some knocking. I have also started working on caliper adapters to fit 172 brakes on the standard hubs, as 172 hubs wont fit my driveshafts. I found out the hard way.

The staff last year werent clued up enough to know. They re-classed the zed as a modern car and took me out of my class for the strip. She wouldnt listen when I tried to explain it was a 93. If it looks like a retro car youll be fine.

Do it or youll be forever telling people 'I nearly bought one of those once' as one of the last whizzes by. If it were me (as I like to ruin cars) as mentioned they come with an sr20 in other countries. if that fits, sr20det with pulsar running gear is probably not hard to fit

Done a compression test on the engine at the weekend Cant remember the order but I can live with those, considering its not run for a while, I think they will come up even. It cranks nicely, no odd noises, no valves smashed to pieces. Got the bonnet to fit aswell. Cut this section out It fits, shuts, bit flimsy in that area and a couple of small creases, but its in keeping with the sleeper effect I think. Got hold of some 172 hubs and brakes I need to get on aswell. They are a fair bit bigger than I thought so I'm confident they will be more than man enough for me. Still need to finish the fuel pump side, exhaust and try to get on with this wiring. Oh and fit the throttle pedal, which from a quick look, looks like it will need modification. I spoke to Chris at EFT and he hasnt had much dealings with this setup, only the cable throttle. But I have managed to find the pinouts I need, in confident I can get it all worked out.

Bonnet will fit if you cut away the bonnet skin x members That is the intention yes. I don't think ill need to to all of it though, just across where its hitting. The EFI mod i think is only for the pre facelift ecu's I have the phase 2 ecu with the uch which I don't think can be bypassed because it sends a different message to the ecu each time. I have the keys, the reciever ring, th euch and the ecu but none of the wiring. I also need to find out how to connect the pedal to the ecu. I will ask efi though if they can help, because as you said, it would save me a hell of a headache! On another note. Got the header tank bolted up, its holding fluid. And i filled the gearbox. Next I need to sort an exhaust and get the pump in.

Single fuel line made up, ready to go to the 172 pump/sender/fpr in tank. Also managed to finish my alternator adjuster. This is what ive ended up with. Its adjustable and it works. Good enough for me. And a realistic view of the finished look. Lots of little bits left to do, but getting there. Mark

The gearbox body is the same so i was able to swap the rear mount over. Top gearbox mount from 172, only misses on one hole. I can live with that. Also came with the front gearbox mount which Renault kindly left a hole for in the chassis. The other mount is on the top of the head, which the hole pattern for is the same as the original mount, so that was swapped over aswell. Driveshafts are fine for the gearbox (as its in the same relative position). Some people put the front mount on aswell, but i don't have one, so i wont be doing that untill it proves it needs it.

Got this all bolted up mechanically last night Selector needed swapping from the 172 gearbox (left( to the one I originally had (right) to make sure the gearstick worked as it should. Plenty of room still, but need the battery and ecu putting in. Made for it. Bonnet doesnt quite close. Just need to remove some of the strengthening underneath and itll be good to go. Like a normal 1.2 Catching just on the front edge of the manifold. Plumbing and wiring next.
