hi all
got a few hours on the camper today
as part of the conversion I am upgrading the radio from single din to double din, fitting a front camera, reverse camera and dab aerial.
All of this should be simple but today has been a real pain. As the van is a late 2011 model the dash is different from the earlier models and not really designed for a large case double din unit. I sourced a fascia adapter from good old china and fitting it as been a pain.I have had to remove some chunks of the dash board,re-profile the fascia and make custom mounts for the head unit so what should have been a 2 hour job has taken all day and to top it off, the dab aerial cant find a signal and the Kenwood camera wont talk to the Kenwood head unit,it refuses to display a picture but the audio is fine.
Going to have another look at it tomorrow when I get back from hospital.
Cheers - mike

Mike, any chance you recognise this type of worktop, it’s in my camper and I want to put a little extension flap at the end just to give a little more worktop space ? Hi there have a look at snowsgallery on ebay. He supplies dozens of different patterns. Cheers - mike

Hi all have made a start on the units. Here's a quick run through on how they are made, once I have decided the layout, any panel that fits against the body need a template made so it fits to the body neatly. I use a 6mm ply off cut and a pencil taped to a guide block. I place the ply panel where i need the panel to fit and run the pencil up from the floor keeping the guide block against the body. This gives me a rough profile. Once its cut out a try it in position and finesse the fit. Once i have a good fit I then cut the panel required. I also add the pockets for the screws and route any grooves needed for knock in edging. Here's some pics cheers - mike

Hi all got a bit more done today went over to cleethorpes to collect some furniture boards and other bits so not a lot of time left. I have fitted the mains inlet, applied the rest of the graphics on the drivers side and made up the mains lead and adapter lead so from tomorrow I can use the mains system in the van. On a downside, the new inverter I bought for the camper is faulty, the plug sockets are poor and even though its a 2000w / 4000w inverter it struggles to run my grinder. I always test all the components before fitting and this is why. Tomorrow should see the kitchen unit made and and some final wiring done. Cheers - mike

Hi all
had a steady day today as the weathers much improved.
The rear ceiling and light are now fitted for good. The carpet lining is now complete although I may cover the drivers side rear panel that will live inside the wardrobe as a free upgrade as I have some lining carpet left.
The rock and roll bed is now fully assembled and ready for bolting down.
Tomorrow should see the split charge system installed, the mains inlet fitted and wired and the heater mounted ready for plumbing into the vans diesel system.
Cheers - mike

Hi all the weather today has been better than expected. Its really windy but quite sunny and not raining. I have got the front section of the ceiling installed, the led lights above the kitchen connected, the mains fron ceiling light connected and the went cover installed. I have carpet lined around the kitchen window and made and fitted the the kitchen unit backing panel. If the weather holds this afternoon I should have the rear ceiling section installed. Cheers - mike

Hi all
got a bit done today once the weather settled. The wiring for the lights is in and both the ceiling panels are made.
The front one is fully finished with the led lights for the kitchen installed and the hole for the vent cut.
The rear panel needs finessing as the fit is as good as it should be yet.
Tomorrow morning should see the area around the drivers side window / kitchen carpet lined and the backing board for the kitchen unit installed which then means I can fit the front part of the ceiling for good.
Cheers - mike

Hi all got a bit more done this morning despite the weather. I usually fit curtains to the rear windows but they are not always ideal as the flap about when the doors are open, often get caught when the doors are closed and don't really block out the day light. I have previously purchased thermal screens but again they are far from satisfactory as they don't fit very well and again don't really shout out the light very well. With all the above in mind I have set to and made my own rigid lightweight screens which are a better fit, more robust, block out all the light and provide some thermal protection as well. Hope to get the wiring fitted in the ceiling this afternoon, weather permitting. Cheers - mike

Hi all
the weather has been atrocious today but managed to get a bit done
the roof has been cleaned and insulated with 50mm dacron.
I have started covering the door panels with lining carpet, just the side door to do later.
Tomorrow should see the wiring for the ceiling lighting installed and the ceiling made and possibly fitted.
Cheers - mike

Hi all
have not updated for a while as I have been in the costa del sol.
I now have most of the bits here so its time to get stuck in.
I have made the new sub floor and but the vinyl to match. Before this goes down however there are a few bits that been covering in lining carpet so have got them done.
The floor should go down in the morning and the vinyl too.
Cheers - mike
