I've been making progress with the front suspension, all the shiny bits have been fitted. The steering wheel isnt ideal! The tyres are rubbing on the struts more do on the drivers side so I need to take some measurements. I'm waiting for some brake bits to arrive but thanks to Pete and Jonsey for your help. I've got the back plates located correctly

When I did the rewiring on the Cortina I left the horn wiring as is because they aren't used in the same way as the headlights etc.
There is a fuse for them to stop unwanted sparks/ fire as that's what knackered the original loom! but the horn is seldom used in reality compared to the headlights so doesn't really necessitate a relay as the loading on the switch/ horn push is minimal.
that's just my opinion - plus I could talk louder than my horns currently!

Not sure it actually makes any difference, but I fitted the seals, and then the pistons, before fitting the dust covers Didn’t find it that easy either, but the dust covers were secured by snaprings Snap. I found taking the pistons out the hardest job. Fitting the new ones in wasn't too hard at all. Furthermore, a pick helps quite a bit in this application for the dust boots . I totally agree, once it's started going in they're a doddle! mine are regular 16P's which don't have a snap ring but I have 1 16PB which does

That would be great if you can do it, my only regret about our wedding was that I couldn't do it in my Cortina - I even suggested putting it in the wedding budget but that was refused by management!

Good question, the seal kit comes with it and the stuff I had been reading suggests it.
I would have used brake fluid but I haven't done the brake lines yet so insure how long they'll be sat - nothing extreme but could be a month or 2

Thanks gents! They look the same setup which makes sense as the 66 models had the p16 girlings that were fitted to the Mk2 also.
I hadn't realised till I was looking at the manual and the photo states "all except the 66 models"
Facepalm!

I'm looking at the drum back plates, does anyone know which way they are orientated.
When I stripped the rear drums I sidnt take pictures and my manuals don't have any information on the later self adjusting drums

it's easier to say than do but I'd like an MOT for the Cortina.
The reality is that it'll be some work and a heap of money. I'm looking at all the finer details like seals and clips and the prices just escalate!
so my step by step is:
Brakes and brake lines (got pre made hard lines that need bending) Loom tape it up and fit it start fitting electrical stuff Gearbox rebuild Engine - rebuild an original oil pump as the high pressure one is too high, sump gasket and tidy up Fuel tank - procrastinate further hoping it'll seal itself up! I think I'll chop that and build a new lower section Fuel lines - should be straight forward test the engine/ electrics if all is ok proceed with headlining and interior and seals
head over to the MOT station for a certificate, then onto the Winchester till everything blows over
