So, got a phone call from the fuzz, someone had mentioned a car in a bush to someone else (possibly the owner of said bush) who thought that maybe it was an odd place for a car. I duly went and had a look, and it turns out to be my car, minus the front Recaros and the front wheels (which were in the boot) and the rear wheel nuts... as I realised when a wheel fell off as I was pulling it out of the bush. It looks like they'd started trying to take the easily-sellable lumps off, so good that I got there as soon as possible. Other than that, little damage, so I'm pretty pleased. No sign of the ropy trailer it was on, but hey ho. Luckily I had a little crane about my person, so I took it back home without incurring any monstrous recovery fees. Result!

Brilliant, thanks. One step closer to a working compressor!

It's kind of the opposite of that - a pressure relief valve opens when a certain pressure is reached. This little beggar's open below a certain pressure (2.2 bar according to the only thing stamped on it), then closes when that pressure's reached. I assume this is for ease of starting or something.

Stoopid question time - What's the name for the little valve in an air compressor that's open to start with, then closes as it comes up to pressure? Like a little plunger in a little brass nozzle nuzzled in the cleavage of the two pistons.
My one's thoroughly forked, won't even close with the annointing of the oily unguents, not the percussive blessings of the wholly holy adjustable, and it turns out that it's very tricky ordering a replacement if you don't know what it is that you're replacing....

I got a wealth of nonsense from the Oak Fair, the Greasy Dorset Steam Fair, and the Honiton Hill Rally, but bargain of the weekend goes to a little local car boot, where I acquired a 3' set of Stilsons for 50p!

i am assuming someone saw this, since you say there were 2 people, so any details on tow car , direction of travel, time, and how they got access to the yard Elderly lady did from a distance - "big" car like a shogun/4x4, about 2pm I think, and they left up the long drive, so either went onto the northbound A30 or into the lanes. The gate was open as there were people about though not within eyesight. Brass ones on them, they drove in and hitched it up as if they owned it, and shot off pronto.
I'm heading up there in the morning, doubt I'll see anything useful though. They won't have it on a stall I reckon!
I'm trying to remember my imgurdetails to posta pic up.

Friday 23rd August, about 2pm a pair of traveller thieving bastards drove into my mates' parents' yard between Yeovil and Sherborne and hitched up our 14ft Ifor Williams twin axle trailer with my spare Capri shell on it and drove off. It wasn't strapped to the trailer, and the bonnet wasn't attached to the car, so I'm still hoping that it came loose enough to cause a memorable incident somewhere nearby.
The trailer's a 14ft Ifor Williams twin axle flatbed trailer, with a hand winch in the front bulkhead, ramps under the bed, and the sides removed but under the car - again unsecured when they took it. The tail board of the trailer is really tatty, and the floor boards are pretty ruined.
The case reference with Dorset police is I22:0327

The much-maligned Lada Samara The short-lived 500kg 1000kg-per-ton Caterham Levant RST. I want this so much it hurts to look at it. The unexpected (From this later viewpoint) AMG Mitsubishi Galant The doubly unexpected (because I'm only supposed to post one...) AMG MB100. Yes, I've been looking at AMG's history of late.

All good, that's good encouragement! In fairness I'd have probably given you UAZ points, but as you say I've only just jumped on this particular bandwagon, I was away busily doing things like taking photos of UAZs (UAZes?) and drinking cocktails in the sun for the most part of this thread. Oddball Ruskie things always get my attention!

Saw a couple of UAZ 452s in the wild during a stop-off in Astana on my way back from Thailand. Did nothing to cool my ardour, I want one almost as much as I want a selection of Zils. Like one for each day of the week, and 2 on Sunday. For the sake of not completely filling this thread with loosely related photos, I'll put the pics in the spotted thread

Nice! You must have been pulling that 6x6 up at virtually the same moment as me - Great minds think alike etc! I had a book with a fair few 6x6 rangies in as a kid, they definitely left an impression on me, especially the bonkers ones for Arabic dudes to go falcon hunting from. As an aside, a friend sent me a photo of one of those lambo's in the flesh a day or two ago, I'll dig it out. Here And bonus DeLorean, from the same London showroom -

...these things look as much like a modern sand-rail / ATV than they do a 70 year old piece of military ordinance... Exactly that! It's like a really gnarly sand rail for clattering about in dubious deserts

If you have some part numbers I can check my local parts store. Hi mertzman, sorry for the slow reply, I've been off-map for a while, sorting other life & vehicle issues! Thanks for the offer, I'd really appreciate it. The thermostat housing seems to have these part numbers - Dorman 902-2052, or alternatively 14028918, 84987, 6209, 814987 The Dipstick and tube seems to be something like 890-743802, but mostly I can only find them as manufacturers part numbers such as TCI 743802 . It's the standard TH400 GM/Chevy dipstick, not some fancy flexi kinda thing. I'll need the rubber seal for the bottom too. These two things are the really important bits, and while they're probably fairly common over there, you can't get them for love or money over here! I'm loosing patience trying to find the right Torque converter - all the ones I can find for High-torque applications don't lock up, which is no good for long distance cruising. Perhapse you could just ask your parts guy what he'd recommend for a TH400 on a chevy 6.2 in an RV? As far as I can work out, I'm after a 13", lowish stall speed high torque locking converter. At this rate though, I'll just shell out the $330 odd to have mine reconditioned over here. Again, many thanks!
