EVERYTHING HAS POTENTIAL, YES ?? Previously always looked at these and wondered just how hard it would be to modify them is any or some direction, either to get a reaction or an erection. Thread title gives a bit away.....BUT: This thread got me thinking again forum.retro-rides.org/thread/205582/new-winter-hack-suggestionsBellybuilder found this for £450.00 Sadly a 5 door. Wonder if there are many 3 doors out there. www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201807288905606?So, what can one do with one? Has anyone owned, or still own one? Real life experience with them? Two door, 1.6 petrol could be enough to get you places. Two doors mean all sorts of visual options, including panelling the rear glass, removing the rear seating. It is tall, but I suspect the lowering crowd on here will know how hard or easy it is to do. Being a relative oddball, not generally seen in he hands of under 30’s it could be that the majority of them are well looked after and reasonably priced. Is this another undiscovered gem, like Prozac the Berlingo?? If you have other step children that fit in here, that can be sensible, practical, odd and still make you laugh or want one, like the Fiat Multipla, then post away or comment away. Found a few pics online. All sorts of directions for modifying, not a lot out there though. JDM look. My favourite, possibly.

Haha, I prodded the bear with this one!
I love them just the way they are, Volvo 850 at the rear, and CRX convertible at the front? J-tastic!
There's nothing European quite like it afaik.
I was looking at Rav 4s of the same era but having seen these I'd prefer an HRV instead.

I see the 1.6 vtec manual has a 7k redline? 122bhp standard, could be tuned??

I always thought of these as being too early for the crossover game. I think they definitely have potential lowered on nice rims and pollished enough to blind people with the sun's rays.

I think one thats had a good beating from the low stick could work though. Certainly closest to what I like.

We still need to know about mechanical ability and modifyabilty.
Are they worth having??
Regardless of initial outlay

Personally, I would scrub the HRV idea and go straight to its bigger brother, the CRV It will look good high or low, the engine is a peach and, IIRC, they can be modified in a relatively straightforwards way by using the hot Civic lumps. They are very comfortable, they handle superbly, are practical and are now in banger territory. I bought one many years ago when they were still main dealer fodder and priced accordingly. A superb car.

I quite like the HR-v, as long as its the two door one, you can keep the four door. Anyway, i've been on the lookout for one for ages, but it's got to be the right one, right amount of doors, right amount of MOT, and right colour. As for what they're like, i've no idea. My guess is that as a car, a tool to get you from A to B much like most Hondas they'll be very adequate. But I feel that if you're looking for something that stirs your emotions, and excites while you drive it, you'll probably be better looking somewhere else. I'm guessing that mechanically they're the same as the CR-v, like mrs Pistonpoppers one... Now, to be fair to it, it's a very good, and cabeable car, but it is excruciatingly dull to drive. But then it's probably not the enthusiast car driving market that Honda were after with this car, I reckon it was the pipe and slippers set! Infact Honda even built a removeable picnic table into the boot, it lifts out, and legs fold down and everything. Presumably this is for when you're doing carboot sales, or picnicing in laybys on a Sunday afternoon! Now if that doesn't raise your excitement levels, then theres a fair chance this isn't the car for you!

The HRV is based on the Honda Logo Supermini, so I don't think suspension is as easy as the CRV which takes Civic stuff.
It comes with an eco version of the D16 SOHC Vtec engine so tuning shouldn't be an issue. The D16s can be turbo'd and make ridiculous power.

Yep possibly closer relationship to the 2001-2005 Civic? than bigger, older CRV design. Wilder, funkier image with 2-doors , Yellow/orange & Blue/Purple colours, & often bright blue interior cloth! Plenty of character available standard & not especially common. DeDion rear suspension so geometry won't be affected by load or ride height (unlike CRV).. some big brackets underneath for low-hung fuel tank & drivetrain though. Makes me wonder about bigger CRV K20/K24, DC5 Integra/EP3 Civic K20 or even Accord K24 drivetrain options... Though those engines might have swapped sides in the engine bay, & expect you'd need FWD to get it low. Be aware CVT Auto doesn't have the reputation for reliability of the rest of the car..

I always thought the hrv looked pretty good in its own right, the pillar less look and vibrant paint, dc5 head lights etc. Being Honda it will be really reliable too.
The crv engine can easily be made into a monster.
The block is often taken and mated to a vtec head off a b16 or b18, even a TypeR. Then used in crx and civics. Taking those high reving 1.6 bonkers engines up to 2ltr and keeping the 8500rpm vtec crazyness. Easy (almost) bolt on mod
