Nothing of any particular merit here, just a nice shot of the Fulvia playing out in the snow today, it's a surprisingly handy little car in these conditions, no wonder they were successful rally cars... Sorry to bump an old(ish) thread, but that picture is fabulous, I've got the horn for a Lancia now...

I am old. I nearly had a 155 new in 1996. I still need to scratch that Alfa itch. The 166 looks ridiculously cheap at the moment but I have a horrible feeling it would be a disappointment to live with. Any 166 owners on here?

I don't know if you know - but after I told you, you'll know - it was all caused by bacterial infection of the immersion baths when they changed to the new paints. There's a dissertation here which goes into big detail: elib.uni-stuttgart.de/opus/volltexte/2000/653/pdf/diss_guehring.pdf - the solution was to renew them more frequently and monitor them better. As some were only randomly monitored for bacterial growth. But basically: that's the cause: bacteria Some cars went through old baths, some through newly filled (uncontaminated) ones... Who would have thought there's life in - erm - paint... That is (genuinely) very interesting. Thanks

Looking good! Does the soft close thing work on the boot? The loom chafes and fritzes the rear electrics, apparently, rear wiper and lights are on the same loom I think. Do these all have self-leveling rear suspension? That might explain the odd stance if it is kaput. Any rust underneath? I've got my eye open for a good W124, they look great. Keep up updated!

What really get me lately the last couple of years is "whats your best price?" When I get that question I tell them the car is sold and sell it instead to someone who won't invariable be a pain in the bum. Vetting potential buyers is easy, they'll be polite, ask the right questions, communicate by telephone and not talk prices until they've viewed it. If they're not, tell them "it's sold" and avoid the headache of dealing with timewaters. Works for me.

I wrote this for MotorPunk and thought perhaps Retro Riders might like to see it too; There were many interesting sights to be seen on my recent one-way roadtrip to Africa in BL cackboxes, sadly not many of them captured on film as aiming a camera invariably resulted in the delightful locals screaming “ NO PHOTO NO PHOTO NO PHOTO F*CK OFF!” I did, however, manage to take a few sneaky, low quality snaps in the rain of the transport in Morocco. There are many reasons why you might purchase an old French car but reliability is not usually one of them so we were surprised to see so many on the road (and roadside) up the ugly end of Africa The Renault 4 was manufactured in Casablanca which might explain their presence and the Renault 12 is a simple machine to keep running in the 3rd world, but a luxurious (and hideously complex) Renault 25 only really makes sense in Paris. When did you last see any of these in the UK? I particularly like the picture above of an owner fixing his 3 wheeled Renault 25, flat on his back in a puddle, with the missing wheel holding the body up as he spannered away, cursing in Arabic. There were quite a few Renault 5s too, mostly dead, and many Peugeot 205s including what looks to us like a tidy Gti snapped in the street outside our hotel. 205s were popular as taxis there but not as popular as W123 Mercs, rammed with passengers and spewing pollution thicker than soup In the countryside were many donkey carts. I discretely photographed one but the rider saw me and went a bit mental and engaged us in the most pathetic car chase ever as he pursued our 998cc Metro at a canter, shouting insults. There were many ‘Dockers’ too, a cut ‘n’ shut affair, half moped and half pickup truck, plus modified vans and old Volvo trucks overloaded with unhappy lifestock. Morocco was a rather unwelcoming place so we didn’t ask what happened to the owner of the British plated G-Wagen pictured abandoned in a yard in Asilah, reg plate ending in –MUD. Perhaps he should have taken something French. More pictures here: www.motorpunk.co.uk/features/roadtripping/morocco-old-french-cars-go/

I'm in Leicestershire, my car is a 1990 standard UK car, MOT'd but off the road for winter as the rear brakes are binding. Tyres new. It gets patched up for every MOT but I've had it 7 years now and need the space for something else. I also have a spare gearbox surplus to requirements. Car is rusty as you like. Ironically it appeared in the "25 years of the favourite sportscar" XCAR video if you want to see it on YouTube in detail. Make me an offer and take it away Drop me a line if this is of interest.

I signed up when someone mentioned MotorPunk on here, and someone else claimed to have contributed content that I wrote, which tickled me. I'm into classics of course, but the main reason for staying is this; "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything". There's too much nonsense on the 'net, the atmosphere here is spot-on, long may it continue.

I had the same criteria when my kids were little. I bought a Volvo 850 T5R, TWR spec, a rare and fantastic machine. Apart from an appetite for expensive tyres and aftermarket alarm related bother it was brilliant, I miss that old brick.

Any location? How about germany? Meaning LHD, but that can be corrected... Found three light blue polos, 2x miami blue very original with painted steel bumpers and one light blue metallic, but as that one has been converted to g40 that may be a bit too far from what you are looking for?! No.1No.2No.3Vielen dank, Herr Woody, those Miami blue ones are perfect, I'm not up to converting to RHD though.

A mate has a late mk1 that he is thinking of selling. Quick description of it he sent me on WhatsApp Depends how much detail you think he will want. You can give him my email address and explain I have a rolling shell with full immaculate interior. Body is very solid with minor surface rust on rear arches. A slight bit of rust on rear window seal. Otherwise full late spec car with all parts included minus engine and exhaust. and a pic of it when he got it i63.photobucket.com/albums/h136/HIGGO4/blacnblu003.jpgNo engine?! No ta.

Not sure if you've already seen it but this is currently on ebay, all original and tidy Edit: Just seen that you don't want a million pound museum piece so it's probably out that way. Found this instead if it fits the bill? Seen that one, thanks, it has been for sale for ages. The silver one is good but the missus is after a 70's colour really. Really appreciate the links though. Ta.

Bit of a bump. I'm still after an early mk1 VW Polo. Don't mind something that needs a little LTC, don't want a rotbox, something modded beyond recognition or a million pound museum piece - can anyone help, please? Happy to pay a finders fee for the right car.
