Hello All, Just a quick note to introduce myself, I'm Bob and live in the West Midlands and came across RetroRides when searching for tech info for my newly acquired Fulvia. The Fulvia thread by Goldenrust came up in a search and I found it very entertaining and useful, hence my joining the forum [Thanks Goldenrust, you've already been a great help, even though you won't know it!]. The best way I can describe my car is it's obviously had a very nice lead-loaded paint job in the not too distant past and then somebody has very hastily and amateurishly re-assembled it for sale. There's nothing too traumatic to report and the car drives well but there's evidence of h'apporth of tar mentality wherever you look. For instance the rear number plate was riveted in place...what an 'orrible thing to do . The doors don't shut properly unless you slam 'em because the seals and locks are fitted incorrectly and lots of minor parts are missing or broken. And the wiring is a proper bird's nest. Very small beer compared to some of the projects detailed elsewhere on the forum. Fortunately it's time, not money which this car requires. The planned mods are simply to make it all work properly and set it up so it's a bit crisper to drive . I bought the Fulvia to take part in hillclimbs and am currently prepping it for next season. When possible I'm going to drive it to events and therefore it will be kept fully trimmed road legal to comply with regs for running it the standard class. I'm afraid I won't be thrilling you with tales of improbable engine swaps or heroic restoration antics - my skill level simply isn't up to it, but what I hope to do is prep the car properly and have a bit of fun in it . I'll keep you up to date on progress. Bob PS Great forum!

I then wanted to start cleaning the interior as it stinks of wood (the material not the smell of a boner) best quote ever!

That's a lovely looking machine. There was one used for hillclimbs in Northern Ireland a few years ago and it had previously been used in the British championship. Will be watching this with interest.

One of the cars that's going in my collection when I win the lottery, in my theme of the most beautiful cars ever made, along with the Aston DB7, Lagonda Vigniale (only two made) & Jaguar F-Type.

Many thanks for the positive comments! I've been doing a bit of work on the Fulvia having picked up a trio of lovely NOS Marchal lamps spotlamps on eBay France. I'm a big fan of Marchal lamps, they're beautifully made and correct for the period. I've also removed the bumpers which was a bit more involved than it looked... Some Fulvias such as the HF and the Monte Carlo were sold without bumpers and the factory fitted body mounted front indicators and rear number plate lights. I was a bit taken aback to be told the rear number plate lights are off a Ferrari 275 GTB and the going rate is £400 a set. Working on the premise that even Ferrari wouldn't have commissioned special number plate lights in the late 60s and therefore they must be shared with something else I Googled the Carillo part number and came up with US spec Fiat 124 Spider. $40 from a nice breaker in the States was a lot easier to swallow than £400. NOS spotlamps and a bumperless front. Things of great beauty, high quality Froglamps... Ferrari FIAT number plate lamps And to round off the new ensemble a nice set of period Cromodora wheels. These are the 5.5J items fitted to larger Flavia HF saloon. Later sporty Fulvias have wider 6J items but these require alterations to the arches to facilitate clearance. I like the simplicity of the standard body and didn't want to turn it into a pseudo rally car and was very pleased to find these wheels through contacts in the Lancia club. I was astonished how light they were, I reckon they must be high quality forged items. They're so light I though they might even be magnesium but fortunately they're not. The problem with mag wheels is they want to revert back to being seawater if subjected to too many UK winters and that can present some safety issues. Anyway, the car is starting to look a bit more purposeful now. I had the reg number lurking on an old Merc coupe and have been looking for a new home for it and has a nice period look about it. Next jobs; A more free flowing exhaust, a set of altered wishbones to give a touch of negative camber and a cage.

Looking good. The lights on mine are Carello but I have a set of Marchal's and agree they are very nice lights. I'd like to get a period correct rear light but in red.

The white rear light has a practical purpose for me, I live out in the country and when darkness falls around here you can't see your hand in front of your face. I've got a narrow driveway flanked by rock and a good strong reversing light is an absolute must!

Oh that's looking a lot more purposeful now. Can't beat a Fulvia sans bumpers. Check out the photographs on the Hero website. There was a nice looking Fulvia out on Le Jog this year.

I'm glad my ramblings were of use Bob It's a nice looking Fulvia you've got there and the mods you've done already look great. I look forward to seeing it evolve! Great score on the rear numberplate lights, I wish I'd looked into it more at the time now, like you I wasn't willing to pay £400 but I just found another route round the problem.
