Yay, I finally got around to uploading some pictures for you {& found how onedrive has been revised}. So threads waay behind again after lifes distractions with me jumping in to help someone who was trying to organize the stock of his previous defunct wrecking business which turned out a mess of trying to sell stuff you could rarely find. So frustrating, time consuming & not necessarily paying.. it hasn't left time to get my own life in order & my home projects stalled. Not that that stops dreaming & temptations. For many years now Mum has been driving around my '89 CR-X SiR {& loving it}, causing it to at acquire 3 or 4 parking dents, the most recent when someone backed into & cracked the frt bumper indicator. Not too bad, but not easily replaced /repaired given this is a JDM spec that was never sold here & such parts are coveted everywhere as upgrades for more prosaic (USA) CR-X. So I thought it might be good to transfer her shopping duties to the more common Civic Hatch of the era, which I mentioned to my work mate.. A few weeks later I get a text message suggesting he may have found a candidate. A few days later this arrives at work & becomes mine for $150(!) a 1988 Civic GL hatch 1.5 l Dual Carb SOHC 16v, 5 Speed, A/C, Elec. windows, P/Steer, unpainted door handles & man Adj Mirrors of the early Spec... 200k KM Seems to work fine (inc. A/C), though paint oxidized from an unsheltered life, besides bent bumpers, small dents & the bad paint & terrible panel gaps of dubious repairs. Some badly applied filler & paint @ rear of R.rear wheel arch that looks more like attempted scrape/dent repair that rust. The Classic Civic low 'shelf' dash & futuristic 'floating' seats in Blue cloth in surprisingly good condition given bolsters are not particularly hardwearing. Surprisingly I found another in depressingly good condition {auto} at a cheap local wrecker of the same year & colour so wasted no time spending more than I paid for the car on good bumpers & upper trims, Frt guards, exhaust & parcel shelf. The rear of the car also needing a little pushing out with wood & jack to fit the Rear bumper (key lock still too deep in hole).

Sounds like a bit of fun so hope the adventure getting it up to decent standard isn't too frustrating.

Great to see one without the rear spoiler our Probes always seem to have, & really surprised to see the tan interior. Sounds like an excellent sports tourer, even if that disappointed those looking for something more coarse. Whilst the MX-6 front looks so clean & pure I always thought the tail looked stretched to fit the spare, where these flowed nicely with the more practical(vast) hatchback.

Sounds like a cheaper/more practical/plentiful drivetrain option to escape the effects of '70's emission/power strangulation. Hopefully organ donor can help in many areas.

The wheels do suit it well, as will the painted bumpers giving it a bit more class. Plenty of adventures for it yet!

R6 very rare here, R5 even rarer, R4 didn't sell here long enough to get engines that big, so Renault R10? At least they were assembled in Victoria & sold in 'reasonable' numbers.

Just the sort of thing I want to do with for my Civic's rear spoiler,in red to double as additional stop light.

^^ Curious comparison there with Packard 'coupe' & bigger hardtop. I hadn't realized that they had developed a hardtop version of the larger sedan body, as well as that of the Starliner/Hawk coupe. I think this was the more outrageous/infamous Lincoln continental of the '50's (1958), before it was 'downsized' to the more classically elegant style of the '60's razor edge. Can't leave out the Batmobile's big brother, the 'regular' '57 lincoln either though:

Wheels look great. Extra Diameter noticeable & if anything they suit it too well, depriving them of impact against the silver body. Making me want one to put B18C into.

Hello again. Good to see how everything turned out after the 360Life adventures & the 117 & Bellet coupés make such a great (& beautiful) pair. I'm sure you must have heard the 117 was indeed a Bertone/Giugiaro effort like Dino Coupé, Piazza & the original Mazda Lucé/1500/1800 that understandably would inspired Mazda's designers for the RX-2/Capella. Plenty of variety, ideas & interesting projects usually about here to keep us all coming back.

Such a nice shape with proportions that let its curves still look taut rather than flabby, though the interior got a bit bland after the ED hatch's classic design. Love these wild JDM interiors making up for the dull dash! & after seeing these over engineered cupholders on a sedan I shall have to get some for something... So many clever little design details like the interlocking seals for the hatch window, & bothering to make the hubcap holes line up with those on the wheels, though looks like they abandoned the L&R handed hubcaps (& alloy wheels)that some of the Preludes & Integras had previously!

Must admit I'm glad to heard of the flares falling from favor as I don't think they fit with the cars character at all. That silver Belgian example looks Soo classy & the simple but shiny alloys suit it so well!

Purple & alloy wheels suit it perfectly, don't think white-wall tyres would be of the right character though, white-lettering or thin red stripes for more of a sporting '70's flavour. Interior does look great, though door armrests perhaps rather sharp?

Never too easy to find people to undertake such repairs to good standard/price given the fetling often required & the fact more is often hidden, hence why so many here buy welders & learn to use them. Doesn't look too bad yet though! Dramatically low build sedan by modern standards but really missed out not getting the US/JDM pop-up lights in Europe!

Looks promising & nicely original with a spec. level to make that desirable (if you like auto). Amazing these were available with 7 distinct 1.5/1.6l engines, 1.5 SOHC 1&2 carb. 1.5 SOHC inj, 1.5 SOHC VTEC-E, 1.6 SOHC inj, 1.6 DOHC, 1.6 SOHC VTEC & 1.6 DOHC VTEC.(not to mention 1.3 & 1.4l & people later bolting in 1.8 & 2.0 DOHC). Must find a period test of that engine since I stated buying bits to put one in my '91 ED 1.5 hatch after a brief drive of a friends. Not as radical as the DOHC VTEC, but good fun.

Yep, a highly competitive market trying to outdo itself & 'Wow' buyers, with annual facelifts from all competitors. Even the Americans new they were excessive as the Beetle & other European brands came to have an impact upon the market, & their 'compacts' introduced for '59/60 with the Studebaker Lark, Chev Corvair, Ford Falcon, Dodge Dart. Not to mention Ford US selling Cortinas & GM Opels But though diversifying with smaller offerings throughout the '60's, the BIG cars still stayed that way well into the 70's even if the style wasn't as ostentatious. A favourite & significantly influential design 1953 Studebaker Starliner, large enough that they had to use their 'stationwagon' landcruiser chassis.

The old wheels have more personality anyway, though admit sound tyres more desirable. Glad the work required isn't insurmountable.
