Back in the workshop today, getting onto the trans cooler upgrade... the old water/oil cooler was somewhat corroded and in keeping is obsolete so no direct replacement🙄. So alternative required and it appeared a Mini Cooper automatic cooler would fit in front of the radiator. So when the front end came apart for the cooling system refresh it seemed the right time to do this install... and certainly not a moment too late as the original cooler was on the cusp of failimg Comparison... Installed

After more frustrations in the workshop, and the pressure is really on to have a car ready for next weekend & Race the Waves but reliant on supply chain. Another day, another FFS moment on the Chevrolet Hardtop.. been making progress on numerous fronts and with the electronic ignition and rewiring at the stage I was in a position to test fire it up.... Nothing, not even a cough, can smell fuel and it ran fine when I brought it in 3 months ago. OK perhaps I've got the timing out... fiddle, faff, still nothing. Full static re-timing and check and still zip.. testing, yep got spark and clearly there's fuel(it stinks).. but still nada... pulled the plugs and they're dry as, not even a whiff of fuel😤 So there's fuel going to the carb, but it's not passing through it.. time to strip and rebuild kit ordered then penny drops it's not the original carb for the year, it's off a 68/69 C10 truck... thankfully available via Rock Auto but won't be here until Wednesday so more delays. That ain't right!! That is definitely on the wrong side of corroded/oxidisation These niggly issues are really sucking the motivation from me, putting right dodgy work overlaid with new failures

Not a fan of insulated crimps, prefer non-insulated and then sheath with heatshrink if needed.
Like you finding crimp terminal pushed into multi plugs fills me with horror and as noted I inevitably cascades through to more downstream failures... for me firstly the Chrysler indicator fails... investigate that, only to discover that I've dislodged something in the brake light circuit... investigate that and now the horn has gone closed circuit..
I'm sure there's things I do that aren't best practice, or folk might do differently but I always focus on whether the work is safe and has longevity(so any "bodgery" is strictly get you home/temporary).

Parts issues is a summary of my week thus far.. either failing(brake light switch on the Chrysler) or falling apart as I rebuild(headlight switch on the Chevy).
Positive parts issue, the Corvette blower motor looks a direct replacement for the 6v unit🤞 on the Chevy which hopefully will be back together and usable by next week

I've had enough frustrations with my projects and shoddy work(mostly electrical but had a couple of fuel system related horrors of late... fuel pipe running through a hole chiselled in the floor😬)...its time & money putting stuff right rather than enjoying the cares.
Bad enough where you don't know the history of a car but for a high profile rebuild project like this it is shocking.

Front dampers came off the Chevy today... and might be expected it did come down to brute force, I initially asked nicely, then stepped up to turning up the "heat" but when that didn't work then straight to the cutting disc! All the old wiring is out, it's a dreadful mess so glad to see it on the workshop floor. However in keeping with tradition even the courtesy/dome light hasn't escaped the modifications...albeit not the worst work to reveal itself Can't lie, making good some of this work is really sucking the joy out this project, add in the electrical maladies with the Chrysler(thankfully Rock Auto came through with the switch inside 4 days from the US) and it's a reminder why so many projects do stall.

Got 2½ weeks to sort the Desoto for Race the Waves, and being honest I'm not hopeful. Combination of unplanned breakages & more body repairs needed to the floors(lots hidden under fibreglass tissue & another "good" section held in by double side foam tape) I suspect it will beat me😟 within that deadline. Indicators on the big Chrysler died last week as well, so 6 hours on Sunday chasing really dodgy wiring for it to be the switch🙄Rock Auto, £85 all in and more waiting(although an on/off/on toggle switch is doing duties until the new part lands on Thursday or Friday. Throw in exhuming dead rodents from the Chevrolet at the back end of last week. and fair to say it's been a frustrating few days.

i have just one question How can you spend that amount of money ? I sense a degree of artistic licence from the seller, I don't doubt there's receipts for £260k+ but that they're for the whole life of the car and not just the restoration/overhaul/upgrade works which is still a staggeringly large amount but more feasible...dealer services, tyres, couple of 'proper' resprays etc and it'll soon accumulate.

Am seeing a few conversions running the Merc M113 V8 and there's conversion plates to mount these to the ZF HP autoboxes but not seen anything into the Discovery/RR(most conversions involve the M57 diesel)
