Can't profess to knowing a huge amount however they are FWD, feature a potentially under powered, but consistent and reliable OM315 2200cc diesel(petrol ones use a 1767cc BMC sourced unit!) at circa 60hp. This is a useful site for more information www.hanomagmercedes.de.vu/will need to route through Google Translation though! Always liked the styling of these and the later MB100 so if the opportunity arose I'd be sorely tempted...

I have bucket loads of ambition, it just so happens that ambition revolves around older shaped cars and bringing together all that I like into a particular unique package and if I had the money then I'd still do the same things - but to a higher standard than circumstance allows now - XJR V8 engined Mk1 Granada Coupe or an LS400 powered CROWN Custom Coupe anybody? but to the same extent a perkins prima engined A60 countryman has a strange appeal and were time/space/money not constraining factors they'd be built along with a 101 other slightly leftfield ideas. It's not that I have anything against supercars, as a left hooker GT3 for pounding across europe would be cool, but such thing just wouldn't reach the top of my list compared to a creation that came from deep recesses of my imagination.

Thanks for the disc info guys, think I'm going to work with the deeper discs, purely on account of them being cheaper and see how I get on with them on Capri struts.
As for the rear, I'm going granada Mk3 calipers, again because I have a set laying around. Am going to try a servo and cylinder from a 1st Gen S3 RX7, again I've got it and the vehicle runs similar sized calipers throughout so we'll see what that feels like, failing that I'll look towards a granada/sierra parts.

Many thanks for that, thought there were 3 types of 260x24 discs from what I've looked up so far, RST/Late Sierra(4 Cyl), the XR4i AND the XR4x4 versions but I've got nothing that details depth(used to have the old AP Lockheed catalogue which was a mind of information like this, but sadly it's long since lost!)

Only just picked up this one - got me thinking about up speccing the brakes, quick question with regards to the depth of the bell on the disc which is deeper the S1 RST(and I believe the later vented std sierra is the same disc) or the XR4i units?And the other question which is the better choice for clearance subject to the difference?

Always worth searching for Suntor conversions across the web, which sees such interesting conversions as..... Being looking for an excuse to post this picture for a while.... but getting slightly more on track again(if not value but there are some J-Tin bargains out there sure I'm seen one of these recently for reasonable money.. Or alternatively look at some of the'mid size' vans and convert one yourself - thinking Mazda E2200/Bedford Midi/Hyundai H100 etc, reasonably priced(compared to VW or Hiace) depends whether you want an older base vehicle or more modern and probably cheaper! However for those that dare to dream..... the Toyota RV-2!!!!

Been thinking similar thoughts on one of these very vans myself, is yours the same truck as seen on 'Wild Camping', looks like it? As a base vehicle it looks to tick a good number of boxes for what I wanted to consider for a day van type arrangement to trawl around Europe and North Africa without being 'too big' since I'm happy to travel light.RWD and a simple old school diesel(veg oil!) without being too big so can be a daily back in the UK(60 mile round trip to work). Being J-tin should be hugely rugged and reliable so bang on(even think you get LSD for the Serena in Oz so perfect for broken roads) Possible inspiration... Potatoshop styling cues... or(this one is a Serena I know before anyone comments but for inspiration)... powered by... So anybody got a solid Nissan Vanette going cheap....

Couple of obvious issues spring to mind, first up the already mentioned g/box output shaft and transfer input gears stripping - common problem LR now sell a drilled input gear to address the problem. The other one relates to the clutch arm, where the ball on the actuator rod breaks through the arm - Never actually seen it happen but the aftermarket bods are now selling "H/D" versions - standard item with a second skin welded on the back!.

Time to have a reorganisation in the garage(Again!!) and it's thrown up a couple of things that could go, so.... First up set of 5 alloy wheels, 6Jx15 to suit volvo 740/940 series, I have 4x centre caps as well but no nuts to suit. Four tyres(195/65R15), of mixed background(couple of Uniroyals) have plenty of tread, remaining one is shot. Price £60.00ono for the setSecondly pair of front doors for a Volvo V70 Classic(the 850 shaped one essentially). Bought to replace the armoured front doors on an ex-plod vole I owned, but since sold on as was. Both in decent condition(couple of small marks). No interior panel or window motors. Paid £60 each for them. Price £60/Pair or £35/each Buyer to collect from just off J4 M180 near Scunthorpe but willing to discuss delivery of it's anywhere near where I'm passing!Any questions just ask Contact via pm or on here. It would put me off if I didn't know who'd performed the repairs, however as for buying a Cat C/D unrepaired I'd do it(and have been thinking about one for a daily) and putting the work in myself then it's a different matter.
The chance to pick up a better car than I may otherwise be able to afford(been looking at what's at Copart Santon recently!) would be the major consideration, but I would look to run it into the ground personally rather than have the hassle of moving it on to doubtful buyers.
