We have a reasonable amount of empty garages and we have to be a bit careful where we put cars as we use some of the garages as drive thro routes. But in a nutshell and by prior arrangement I’d like to have a lot more cars on display in addition to the hill runners and guest cars so we can work something out Sat evening at sign on - the “ladies of the hut” Gillian and Tash will point you in my dirrection I shall do that! Would be good to put some faces to forum names Would it be okay if I were to do this as well? Could have a French hatch corner? Keyrings Rallye and my ax

An old friend of mine fitted a 75bhp Nitrous kit to his otherwise totally std AX - Was running low 13's and is still reliable to this day! I'd quite like to play about with nitrous at some point.

It's that time again, the lead up to the Gathering, I've bagged a spot on the hill climb in the mighty AX, and I still have a lot to do to it! This evening I shall be heatwrapping the tasty 4-1 manifold I managed to get ahold of for it whilst enjoying a cold beer I think. Will update with photos later.

Do we get a practice run/reccy up the hill? Never been so no idea apart from youtubing it Nah. Line up and go on your turn. Hopefully you'll get multiple (they used to expect each to get three) runs if all goes to plan. Go as easy as you want. The left turn up the top will make you slow down quickly due to the gradient so don't worry. And if you don't want to go mad, don't feel pressured to. If you're camping Saturday night you'll be able to walk up the hill. Pack spare lungs if you plan to do this. I forgot mine when I did the walk the first year, had to have a rest about halfway!

All paid up and extra info filled in can't wait! Ratmangta:- don't worry about starting fast man, 90% of us take it easy the first run or two to gauge how the hill is, then go a bit/ a lot faster for the third run no one's gonna judge you for taking it steady for your first time and handily at the bottom of the hill there is a map which should be accessible on Friday Saturday and Sunday for you to have a nosey at I think a copy will also come with your track stuff or tickets when they get posted out. And also on the Saturday if you're felling spritely and young, you can walk up the hill to get a good idea of what it looks like in realiry (I recommend doing this pre beer and with a big bottle of water)

Love an ax! Used to be one around my way with a vts engine fitted, it went well, and as said, a great sleeper! My best friend and I built his old 5 door up with a vts engine and it went like stink! That car and memories of it are a big part of what made me snatch this one up when I spotted it. You should some to the RR:SE pub meet in Arundel, I for one love a French hot hatch. Next is June 13th, Black Rabbit in Arundel, from 7.30 linkI shall try my best to make it down to that hopefully I will see you there!

As you may have noticed, there was a distinct lack of Citroen AX at the Weekender, in fact I don't think there was a single one there! My apologies for this as I should have had the car done but the engine debacle meant that I had to take the ragamuffin mx5 round the track instead (it was pretty fun).
However, I did in fact get the GT engine running and driving the Thursday before the weekender! And boy is it fun! Admittedly it's a bit fast for the little brakes and clapped out suspension currently fitted to the car, but it does make for some hilarious muscle car style nose lift on hard acceleration. It also makes biblical amounts of induction noise thanks to the rather shiny k&n filter fitted atop the solex carb. There's still several things I need to sort before I can drive the car properly to see what it can really do but for now I'm happy pottering about in it and confusing the hatchback finance squad off the lights. It's amazing what a lightweight car can do even sub 100hp.
I think I got a couple of photos during the swap but I'll upload those later.
All for now Josh.

Thanks. Josh.

To be honest, I've never yet seen an RR event thread that didn't end up with complaints about "noise idiots shocker". It didn't bother me because I wasn't there but my 10pence-worth would be that it shouldn't take a genius to realise if you're the only people partying in the small hours it's probably because everyone else is trying to sleep and maybe common courtesy might tell you to wind yourselves in a bit And furthermore it's all very well to say "who's a billy big balls behind the keyboard?" but to be fair, I've been around a bit but I'd think twice about fronting up a drunk group of total strangers in the middle of the night all on my lonesome and asking them to be quiet. Because if they're ignorant to make loads of noise all night long they're ignorant enough to tell you to **** off. Or maybe just stab you. As to the "it's your first RR event so you should accept having a curse word time because other people have done more and therefore have the right to behave as obnoxiously as they want".... really? One of the most mindless arguments I've ever seen It shouldn't even be a thing. People should just respect other people but I don't suppose they're likely to start now. Shame because I always enjoy the living four-X out of RR events. And then dread the aftermath of "who didn't pick up their litter" and "who made too much noise" and "who didn't do this that or the other" It always seems to happen, one year someone complained about myself and two friends starting up our cars first thing in the morning Saturday and limiter bashing for five minutes! Which was news to us as we had already left by the time the limiter bashing was quoted to have occurred! I think there's a select few drama queens among the rest of the happy campers that crave drama so bad that they take to abusing others on the interwebz. Still, I'm camping at Shelsley Walsh this year regardless

Thank you to the RR team for once again knocking it out of the park!
Had an amazing time driving round the track Saturday morning, and a nice relaxed afternoon
And then a great day sunday getting to park up on the track, laze about til it brightened up (had a bacon sarnie and tea from the pit lane cafe which may have been the best bacon I've ever eaten) and then wandered up and down the clubs and around the paddock and other areas which was nice too.
My stand out car of the event was the bagged custard yellow mercedes with the most incredible copper piped interior. I took a lot of photos of that one.
Honestly it didn't seem like a first go at the event, everything ran slick and well.
Can't wait for the gathering!

Quick question on sound limits and launching. My Car is 92DB at Castle Combe but which is usually measured at 4500rpm. Whats it measured at, at Goodwood as the map on my car limits the revs at stand still to 4200rpm and then engages 2 step launch control. On that note Launch control on the start line? allowed or not? or try and find out lol? Would it be possible to turn it off during sound test via a switch or computer if it's ECU controlled? In case it is too loud with it engaged?

That sounds glorious! How all old four cylinders should sound in my humble opinion.
When will you be able to have it set up properly? It should be a lot quicker then.

I like this a lot, those FC front end swaps are crazy cool. But the original front is smart.

Well today started out well, with new parts being fitted and me thinking I'm a carburettor master now because I changed one jet in the twin choke solex and maimed a brand new expensive insulated screwdriver as it had a cylindrical end on it rather than the fanned out style adopted by most screwdrivers these days. I cut off most of the insulation on it after having bought it not an hour beforehand. No photos of that unfortunately but I did get some pictures of the days work. Here's the old jet and re used emulsion tube with the fancy new jet for the k&n filter and also the very high tech precision kebab skewer provided in the k&n filter kit. Phone is being a turd now too and is not uploading this particular masterful photo. Will try to fix and report back. And some of doing the timing belt and water pump, I didn't seem to take any of the new parts fitted (I really am terrible at these progress blogs) After these were taken I finished buttoning up the GT engine, we re jigged the garage so that we could get the nose of the car in and set to getting the smokey old leaky 1.0l out. And then it all went to pot. Cue bodged in radiator getting in the way, the exhaust wanting to come off as a single piece because SOME BRIGHT SPARK WELDED THE BACKBOX TO THE BLASTED CENTRE SECTION and the centre section bolts right up to the manifold on the early cars. What fun. Not. There was a small interlude of plain sailing delooming the 1.0l ready to transplant that to the GT engine. And removing various water pipes that hook up to the engine from the heater matrix. And then it was back to business as usual. I confess I totally forgot the madness that consumes car manufacturers when deciding what manner of idiotic ungodly looking bolts they use for drain plugs. The AX for example has an 8mm square female headed bolt for the gearbox drain plug, a special prize for whoever guesses which colossal anus forgot about this. And scuppered the rest of the day because of it. Answers on a postcard. After discovering this I sulked for a bit, removed some more parts and then sulked some more, at which point a friend of mine showed up with freshly baked banana bread, which cheered me up. But then it was back to sulking some more. Shortly after this third sulk I decided it was probably time to head on home, not before I remembered I needed the battery from the AX for my other car, back to the garage to get that I went. Still, there's always next weekend.
