The Pony is a rarity, and looks clean too It's super tidy. I did the standard RR member thing (I assume) whilst sitting watching the Porsches and Lambo's etc it rolled in with by jumping up and shouting "f**king hell a Pony" lol

They could be different ones, but I'm sure they had those at the car museum that is (was? Might be closed down now) in Dewsbury.

Actually working on my own car for once. Now has working temp gauge (because aswell as buying a notorious for rot car without checking for rot, I also bought a notorious for cooling problems car without a working temp gauge) and relays in the headlight wiring so it's Getting almost full alternator voltage to the bulbs.

I did underneath my mum's 2006 Civic about 7 years ago that was getting scabby - I bought a 5L tin of Duck Oil and soaked the whole underneath of the car with it using a garden sprayer thing, including in box sections etc, then coated the whole lot with Dinitrol. Still looks good now, and I had a poke round a couple of bits I remember been particularly rough when I MOT'd it and they weren't any worse.

Some fantastic photos on that blog.
I'm torn between doing very very silly things with the Carlton for the Weekender or just slamming it. Bought most of the stuff to do either, need to see what sort of time I've got. I did finally cave and did a full service on it, and also looked underneath for the first time (definitely the safest way to buy cars with known severe rot issues is just to not look because you really want one). Pleasantly surprised that apart from the front of the rear inner arches that's not there, which I knew about as I didn't have to bend down to see it, the rest is incredibly solid, with very little scabbing or anything. I'll give it a coat of underseal/cavity wax at some point this summer anyway, but at least it should be a fairly easy MOT at the end of May.

I wonder if there's someone out there who posted a project build in the first year and still hasn't finished it. Happy birthday retro rides, pic just because I've got a project that I had when I joined the forum in 2007, that is still in my lockup having made absolutely no progress since 2007.

It's awesome that it's survived the social media onslaught. Huge amounts of information has been lost as niche forums have disappeared due to lack of visitors, and social media is useless for searching out old posts unless you know exact keywords that might be picked up.

I like 90s cars. It's the first decade where different manufacturers managed to build cars that didn't all look the same as each other because they started been able to do things like make headlights in different shapes other than round or rectangle.

It might not be supporting but it sure is nice if your wheels are properly centered to prevent you shaking out of the car at speed... VW LT mk1 uses steel wheels and the version with single rear wheels don't even have a centering part on the rear drum. No supporting there for sure. The wheel is centred correctly by the taper on the bolts pulling into the taper on the wheels. If you hand wind 2 of the bolts in till the taper engages there won't be any shake, unless the wheel is bent.

Just had a glance at that link, it couldn't be more wrong.
On wheels that use taper or ball seat bolts the centre bore provides absolutely no "resistance" to shock loading or any of that curse word. It's literally there to make it less likely for numpties to cross thread the bolts, or wind one bolt in as tight as it will go before winding the others in. That's why there's always a .1mm at the end of the wheel centre bore number, it's a clearance fit and therefore isn't "supporting" anything.
On wheels that use straight shank sleeve type fasteners the centre bore needs to be a good fit as there's nothing else of a tight enough tolerance to centre them, but that's about it.

Can you not just run a small spacer so it clears? On alloys it's fine to run a too big/not round centre bore, but on steels I'm not sure how much of the centre bore pressing is used to add strength to actual mounting flange as the material is much thinner.

I've been having a good car fortnight. Got loads of niggly bits on the Carlton sorted that's making it even more pleasant to waft about in. Went on a tat run when it snowed, did pretty well considering. Still curse word compared to small fwd hatchbacks but that's by the by. Then got our lasses car finished and MOT'd finally, then me and the little un gave the fleet a wash which was fun. Now upto 5 out of 10 working vehicles which is nice. Spotted a Rascal parked up, see it bobbing about all over the place local but never got a pic. Along with various other house jobs I've got done it now leaves me with free time to get cracked into the Carlton to get it something like for the Weekender.

I've probably got some 19mm oil filter threaded adapter bits kicking around at work. Will check next week.

You probably won't see much by removing the rocker cover. Are you compression testing through the glow plug hole or removing injectors?
