Nice garage/workshop/man cave, i too can vouch for the wera screwdriver sets, i keep them for best, and the halfords ones on my toolbag, problem with the halfords sets I have is they don't have PH and PZ, where as the wera dose and also has an engraved grip on the driver tip. Dan

plugs out and they look fairly ok 2019-04-04_12-44-41 by logicaluk, on Flickr compression check shows, 177 174 170 167 PSI I think it looks like the HG is ok. the old cam was petty much 220 across all cylinders i also checked the valve clearances and no 1 inlet was slightly loose, 4 exhaust was slightly tight. starting it up it sounded much smoother, proper acclaim smooth. also changed the ignition map to this 2019-04-04_01-01-45 by logicaluk, on Flickr ill drive it to work again today and change the oil over the weekend. Then a couple of hundred miles running in before i can see how much of a change the cam has made. Dan

All seemed well..... famous last words This morning i went out and did basic checks before playing and oh 20190403_095724 by logicaluk, on Flickr not what i expected to find. no mayo in the top of the head. Acclaims normally suffer from a small amount of mayo if there used on short journeys, but not in the water. I@m sure i re-torqued the head after it was fitted but every bolt took at least 1/4 turn, one the one nearest the mystery water seepage took a full turn, so hopefully that's cured now. fired it up and it sounded completely different, much quieter at idle, so i strapped the laptop on and set the auto tune and went for a drive, even the first few minuets of driving i could feel the tune getting better. with the microsquirt you set the AFR table and tunerstudio auto tunes to it. tobe honest this is my best guess at an AFR table, if any one knows better please chime in. 20190403_224634 by logicaluk, on Flickr and this is a best guess at an ignition map taken from the dizzy specs with some additional advance for the uprated cam. 20190403_224651 by logicaluk, on Flickr right now I'm swimming in data so cant c the 1s from the 0s At least id drives ok. I have to stop myself from caning it so far ive not bee above 3500 rpm. Dan

We have not only a pass (after a fail for headlamp adjustment), but a clean sheet too. WOO and might i say HOO. my mate complained about the car stalling a couple of times on the way down there, then i thought its got a full tank of year old fuel in it, that will do it. So the sensible thing to do would be A drain a good portion of the tank and refill or B change the cam shaft, go on guess which on i did, il give you a mo to think about it. yes that's right Cam shaft. clean bench off with break cleaner 3 times and assemble the parts. 20190402_160630 by logicaluk, on Flickr a set of resurfaced rockers and a re-profiled camshaft, i phoned Newman cams as i had this done a year ago and couldn't remember if there were any special installation instructions, spoke to David Newman him self and he said set up on original timing marks, the cam has an extra 12 degrees of duration and .75mm extra lift. assemble rocker shaft and sprinkle liberally with ATF 20190402_164856 by logicaluk, on Flickr liberate the old cam and transfer the pulley over so as i don't loose the woodruff key into the timing case again. 20190402_174631 by logicaluk, on Flickr Install and set the valve clearance 20190402_174931 by logicaluk, on Flickr All done in a few hours. I pulled the plug off the coil pack and a mate who just randomly turned up at the right moment, turned it over a couple of times to check nowt nasty happened, plugged the coil pack back in and the car back fired, sounded like a gun shot and we both curse word ourselves, but the car started sounded a little deeper than before but warmed up well and i took it for a short drive all under 3500rpm and all seems to be well. next job have another play with the ignition map. Anyone know how to write one properly? Dan

A day off and an empty house means garage time for me. first job, wash the car nope. Its fix the wash gun, as its dribbling uncontrollably from the dingus end. I checked its prostate and 20190331_110743 by logicaluk, on Flickr reset the o,ring and i can wash off a years worth of dust. Then i can get round the MGTF seats but first these have to come out to give up the runners 20190331_160700 by logicaluk, on Flickr i got a bit carried away and didn't take many pics but, first pull the back off the seats 4 bolts and remove the upholstery. 20190331_145238 by logicaluk, on Flickr centre pop and drill out the 4 or 5 rivets and cut 3 welds out. then offer up a chunk of angle iron 20190331_150706 by logicaluk, on Flickr 20190331_151500 by logicaluk, on Flickr the acclaim runners aligned with the edge of the angle iron so they were easy to fit. i did have one issue, bending the adjusting leaver out of the way of the seat and the floor and the seat mounting bracket was quite a trick the passenger side had to be bent in 3 different directions, the drivers side only 2. 20190331_151717 by logicaluk, on Flickr the first seat took a couple of hours, the second less than an hour, the hardest part was hooking the NOT springs, seat base connecting rod things into place. 20190331_155053 by logicaluk, on Flickr but then frank looked like this. 20190331_160718 by logicaluk, on Flickr I've swapped the driver and passenger seats over not because of the wear, but because there is no plastic cover on the inboard side of the seats as the MGTF has a high tunnel and its less obvious on the outside in the acclaim, this dose put the seat back adjuster in the middle but i think its going to work if not ill switch them over. then i parked frank in backwards, ready for a well trusted friend to take him for MOT tomorrow. 20190331_183140 by logicaluk, on Flickr fingers and toes still crossed. I had an 03 plate pilot for a few years, for a basic van it was great, 1.9 Peugeot engine was a little slow, a turbo would have helped alot. I used to use a very small amount of acetone 1ml/L iirc "to reduce the surface tension of the diesel molecules" that helped a bit altho it might have been a placebo effect. The pilot was not a motorway speed van as it was right at the top of its capability, at 70mphtone had to be a tactical driver to keep that up, but it was quite happy on a A road, my king pins were worn so I replaced them, other than servicing i cant recall doing anything to it. I sold it with no MOT a rusty wheel arch with the repair panel, I sold fof a fe hundred quid tothe guy who ripped me off and layed me a curse word garage base, but i was suffering yet another bought of depression so it was just 1 less thing arround to deal with.
If i wanted a van an LDV would be on the list. Dan

the left side fog light was just a corroded connection the right one was terminal, or should i say a lack of termination 20190329_162847 by logicaluk, on Flickr the lenses were suffering a quick polish with some brasso followed by some car polish soon fetched them up a treat 20190329_162822 by logicaluk, on Flickr hopefully thats the last MOT job finished 20190329_164239 by logicaluk, on Flickr i might even threaten the dirt and dust with a bucket of soapy water over the weekend.
