We just knew this would provide us with hours of entertainment!! But great team work by R & V..... Incidentally, seeing that rusty pipe in the ground reminded me of my parents gas supply pipe near the kitchen outside drain. There had been an increasing smell of gas outside. When investigated, the gas supply to the house was just a very rusty hole through the clay next to the drain!

Well this will be another entertaining thread - which will stop me doing any real work! But very glad that you (and V) have a home again Robert.

I too had a lot of grief doing the hazards and indicators on the Ronart....so I share your frustration! You will get it correct soon though.

Sadly no news yet about our stolen parts..... However we did finish our 16T mineral wagon B565224...so we have made a start on the next one B570618. This again seemed to only need small patches but on closer examination will need repairs to the underframe and so the floor (poor) is now out!

Whilst the V8 Sprite was out in the sun I finally finished part of my rewiring and ran the front wiring loom up through the chassis leg that supported the "Rubber Bumper" in its previous life. Needless to say it was a "faff" getting the five wires for the ignition module and coil out of one hole and the lighting circuit out of the other hole. However after three tries it was completed....now to get the connections done! Gratuitous picture of 8 ram pipes on Quad Webers!

Not an "A" series, Alfa or Rover V8! Possibly pushrod Ford?

Thanks again Darkspeed...as you say - "its all deciding where you want to compromise". It is good that you are able to back up those decisions with some real world facts based on measurements! It is very much appreciated that you are sharing them with us.

Thanks Darkspeed. I did notice that the cylinder head around the exhaust valve still has a small "lip" and I wondered why that is not chamfered more to the edge of the cylinder wall to guide the flow rather than give squish?

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but when testing inlet systems, the flow is in the correct direction but is the flow reversed for exhausts? Also how important is exhaust improvement, given that there is a greater pressure differential due to the cylinder pressure and piston movement?

It is the Market Harborough Classic Car Show tomorrow so I was inspired to get my Sprites out of the garage....Well I needed to do a big tidy up and this was a good reason to do it now. As can be seen it is a bit crowded in there:- An hour later:- Another hour and there were two out in the sunshine:- Any RR folk are welcome to pop in as we are only 400m from the centre, out on the Northampton Rd.

The GCR was targeted by metal thieves early on Saturday morning. Four men in a red Nissan 4x4 were spotted on CCTV. They cut through the fence from the adjacent industrial property, then broke into a container. They stole parts for the restoration of locomotive 34039 Boscastle including a steel curved Expansion Link. The value of parts is between £30,000 to £50,000.......scrap value £100's. There is a substantial reward for the return or information leading to the return of these parts.
Needless to say the restoration team who have spent years working on returning the locomotive to steam are devastated - as are all the people who support the locomotive and GCR.

There is now activity on the A60 bridge site, with containers etc. being winched into position on the works compound site - by the embankment to the North of the new MML bridge.

The renovated vacuum cylinder was put back in place under the wagon on Wednesday, together with the rest of the brake rigging. The North West buffer was re-installed following the repair to the headstock and the three link coupling has been put in position on the south end hook. A start has been made on the final welding jobs at the bottom edge of the fixed (North) end. The West side has been prepped and grey top coated. There is still the vacuum hoses to fit, black boxes and numbers to paint, white stripes and the fixed end paint to finish. This might be finished by the end of this month......30@30 is still the aim!
