I'll be there on the Saturday helping to man the SIMCA club stand though I'll not have any of my cars on there this time. The 1200S coupe or the 1000 racer will be on our stand at the March NEC Restoration Show.

Great News. Hoping to have my SIMCA 1200S coupe finally finished for then.... after promising myself I'd get it finished for the last umpteen years. The guy in Germany who built my orange youngtimer racing SIMCA 1000 Rallye 2 is hoping to get over here with his current Rallye 3 racer to coincide with one or two of the big old car events. This is the first one I have a date for.... I'll let him know. ..... ![](http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/i347/wardsim/unspecified_zps9pkg22yv.jpg)

The SIMCA 1200S Bertone coupe has a story similar to the Escorts and Orions mentioned earlier...rusty from new. SIMCA 1000 floorpans were sent to Bertone in Italy to receive his body. The Coupe shells were then sent back to the SIMCA factory in France to be fitted with mechanicals and finished off. They made the journey on racks on open railway wagons....IN BARE METAL...!! As if a joint effort between SIMCA and a 60's Italian coachbuilder needed any help in rusting..!! ![](http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/i347/wardsim/100_5376_zpsljhuzmwh.jpg)

He'd rebuilt them with a full kit and, when first back on the road ran OK for a short while. Coming back from its first MoT, he had problems with it spitting fuel out and flat spotting. After that, it would often run well for a spell then the old problems cropped up. After a lot of unsuccessful fiddling and adjusting, he's an instrument technician by trade, as he'd got a twin DCOE manifold and 40's jetted for a SIMCA engine, he went with those. I run a '75 SIMCA 1000 Rallye 2 which uses a later version of those twin Solex PHH carbs. That runs spot on and is even quite economical considering the poke it turns out. I'm told by SIMCA Club members who've had the 1200S coupes in the past that they found the solex carbs hard to keep 'right'. Some time ago I acquired a pair of these carbs intended for a Lancia to compare them to the SIMCA ones.... outwardly near identical to the SIMCA carbs with slight differences where the linkages fit. Currently have them on a SIMCA rallye 2 manifold and will get round to trying them on a car one day. My coupe's engine ran spot on before I stripped it down for its 'weldathon'.... a past owner who never got round to restoring it said he'd had the carbs rebuilt..

Looks like there will be loads of access. Things get tighter once the fuel tank and its metalwork are in place. Then the gearbox fits directly underneath with the clutch slave cylinder (one of the rear engine SIMCA's more 'dodgy' parts) on top of it. With the engine in place access is very limited. ![](http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/i347/wardsim/100_5592_zpsq6cad0sh.jpg)

Frank Breidenstein's current racing SIMCA.... a Rallye 3, just 1000 of which were made for homologation and to mark the end of SIMCA 1000 production in 1978. ![](http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/i347/wardsim/unspecified_zps9pkg22yv.jpg)

Am open to offers for it as rolling shell for your own engine/box transplant. Otherwise I'll put it back into 'mothballs' with a view to getting it road legal once I've finished my SIMCA 1200S coupe.

I do 3, ( this year it will be 4 ) trackdays organised by Frank Hall at Blyton Park near Gainsborough. Cost for those is £100 with up to two extra drivers/passengers free. Did one there last Friday. It's open pit lane and despite the pouring rain did loads of laps in my SIMCA 1000 ex youngtimer racer. Real fun...!!! and a real variety of cars out there.
