We, SIMCA Club UK, will have a stand there in Hall 5 (5-585), alongside the MATRA Club, most of their cars are based on parts from the SIMCA/Talbot range. I'll have my Rallye 2 on the stand and there'll be different models that came from the SIMCA 1100, Their first front wheel drive car. I'll be on the stand much of the time, see you there Mick Ward Photos.... our effort at last year's show...

Looks very similar to the one that many french cars (2CV, SIMCA etc) came with. I've adapted one for the blade lift for my Ransomes tractor project.

Engine has to come out again for two reasons... Have found another late flywheel that uses a more compact clutch assembly also I need access to weld in an extra crossmember under the engine I forgot to add previously. After that I plan to add a frame above the original bumper to link to the SIMCA mounting point above the timing chain cover. Also having a clearout in the garage to make space to complete this and then prepare my 1200S coupe for its long awaited paint job. Also got to get the SIMCA racecar ready for a couple of trackdays the first week in March. Somebody once asked 'What will you find to do in your retirement??'.... never find any problem there, except for finding the time to work on all my projects..!!

Took it on a 'test run' only to find that while it took off very quickly, It regularly 'bogged down' and ran really sick. Checked spark, fuel etc then realised it had been leaving a trail of the packing from the silencer I'd fitted. (1st photo) To eliminate any issues there found the 4 into 1 manifold and straight through silencer from one of my old racecars. (2nd photo) Problem solved!! It's loud but really goes... Might eventually put a bend after the first silencer to take another across the back. I did have that setup on this car originally but it donated that for my Bertone coupe, the car the 'dodgy' system came from.

tried firing it up today. After I'd sorted some wiring out and got a spark, checked I'd got fuel to the carb, I realised why this manifold has been on the shelf in the garage for years. Got it as a freebie from another SIMCA enthusiast back in the '90s, Not wanting to sound ungrateful, I now see why. The plugs were fouled up after early attempts to start it and I found it impossible to remove all the plugs, never mind replacing them without removing carb & manifold. This is the cue to try the DCNF downdraught carb that's on a manifold where the plugs are actually visible and easy to remove/ replace without crossthreading. Another job for the coming week, keeping me away from finishing the SIMCA engine transplant on the Ransomes tractor. Photo: original engine with single choke Solex carb. The DCNF manifold allows similar better access to plugs. When I get time, I'll convert it to front radiator, then without the rad, fan housing etc, I can fit a Manifold with twin DCOE Webers and still have access under them to the plugs.

This was the carb setup I was going to use before I dug the 40DCOE and manifold out of my 'stores'. It's a manifold and carb from a Chrysler/Talbot Alpine. The 36DCNVH carb has had a wedge added to sit the carb at a suitable angle for the near upright SIMCA 1000 version of the engine. The fw drive cars with transverse engine 1100, Horizon, Alpine etc have the engine inclined at quite an angle. May try it if access problems under the DCOE get to be too much of a pain.

Was going to get the 1000GLS up & running today but was side tracked, sorting out my '84 SIMCA/Talbot pickup. The indicator stalk decided to make a bid for freedom. Thought I'd got a suitable replacement until I noticed the spare stalk assembly I had planned to fit was for a later SIMCA 1100. Post '75, The headlamp dip, flash & indicator stalks were on one side and wipers etc on the other.. Prior to '75 just the headlamp & indicator ones were on the LH side and nothing on the other as wiper switches were on the dash. On LH drive cars, vans & pickups the whole range moved over to the later arrangement in '75, except, that is, for the Rh drive vans & pickups which also kept the early strip speedo dash!!...right till end of production in '85. French logic??? so as the later units are are quite different as are the multi plugs to the loom etc... Superglue, cable ties and various other bits were pressed into use for mine... a trip out tomorrow will see how long it lasts??
