Just got this out of 'mothballs' after months out of use. Completed fuel tank replacement but soon after engine was proving a pig to start and was kicking oil out worse than anything should at 19000 miles. Took that 1118cc engine out and stripping it down showed bores Ok but, after its 30+ years of standing idle, the rings were well & truly stuck in their grooves. Meanwhile I fitted a 1294cc Rallye 2 spec engine as a temporary measure, then other jobs got in the way. Got back to it today. Ideally the Rallye 2 engine needs the twin solex sidedraughts, or better still twin 40DCOE Webers but this car still has the rear mounted rad so space is limited back there. Have a single 40DCOE on a manifold so fitted that, but remembered the issues there.... access to plugs in particular is almost nil..!! Have completed all 'plumbing' etc this afternoon and ready to fire up tomorrow. When I get time intend to convert it to front radiator spec like the Rallye 2,3 and 1200S coupe models using the pipes from a coupe we scrapped for spares.
