My load lugging workhorse is for sale as I just have a few to many cars filling the road up! MOT 6th August 2020 (nearly a year!) Runs and drives pretty well, but has been used as a workhorse for a couple of years - body has scrapes and a dent on the rear right quarter. LH door strips missing (now gaffer tape..) Interior tired as well, hole in carpet etc. but hey it's cheap! Could do with front brakes (discs a bit warped) and couple of bushes getting tired. Front tyres will also need doing in next 1000-2000 miles. However, it's a very reliable old bus - this is the second time I've owned it. First bought it a couple of years ago and drove it to and from Stockholm! Didn't miss a beat. Sold it to a builder, then bought it back when he was done with it and sorted out a few issues and got it back through an MOT. When had it a couple of years back I put a new clutch and cambelt on for piece of mind (Stockholm and back is a long way for an old car in a couple of weeks). Also did all fluids etc. In last couple of months has had a new rear exhaust section, a basic service and plugs and seems to be running pretty well - sure it'll get you wherever you need to go. It's great for taking stuff to the tip etc. Capacity of a van, but no charges! Also has a towbar on it and comes with roof rack, so proper workhorse. Nice retro winter hack with it's heated seats? Will be at the Gathering this weekend as a tow truck, give us a shout if you want a look.

Oddly cant really remember, I must have been 21 before I had something that'd crack a ton. Guess my old Escort once it got the turned up flow, fun times.
Remember when I got my double ton though, that was fun. Banking at Papenburg has to be seen to be believed, going around a 50deg banked curve at 180mph+ feels like flying!

The Triumph Dolomite club does a 4 piece kit to repair the front chassis legs in just that place! Also repair sections for the inner front panel outboard of the flitch AKA the headlamp mount panel and the GRP front wings and outer front panel as featured on my car above! If you want to match your wheels, I believe someone does a lightweight ally front hub for these cars with Ford PCD. Though there's probably a cheaper way! You'll probably also find the milk bottle tops that masquerade as front discs inadequate for your stopping needs too. Help is at hand here as well with a Trackerjack vented disc conversion which uses Golf discs and Ford calipers and carriers (Sierra/Escort/KA 240mm) One thing you will find frustrating is the lack of info on factory spring rates for the Toledo, I did! How can you work out what you need when you don't know what you've got? All the posh bits are designed for Dolomite Sprint which is a much heavier car (as in the best part of 300kg) than the 2 door Tolly. Fit Sprint coilovers and watch it sit like a monster truck! I obviously can't be much help with the Ford engine transplant as I went with the opposition, but if you need any help sourcing chassis, suspension, braking, body, etc, just drop me a PM. Mostly, i've been there and done that! I'm now building a Dolomite Sprint wih a 2.2 Omega lump and autobox as a cruiser to complement the track oriented Toledo. All the best with your project, it should be a lot of fun! Steve Thanks Steve, think the repair section is exactly what I need. Any experience of the lightweight front panel the club do? Mine is a mess so thinking about going fibreglass for the entire front end.

Another day, a bit more welding. RHS sill and rear quarter patched. Not the prettiest, but solid and have done a touch under flush so can fill to a level - if this was a show car I'd have taken a lot more time on these things, and used nice panels (or taken a heck of a lot longer making them), but this is a fast road toy and one I'd like to get behind the wheel of sooner rather than later so am taken a few short cuts that won't result in anything that'll annoy me too much! Next up is the worst structural bit on the car, the front frame front mounts - so nasty and complex I might buy a set of repair panels for this bit! Finally for this update have picked up an axle, but not a Triumph one. Have to change the axle anyway as the Toledo and lower power Dolomite one is far too weedy for the Zetec. Normal practice on a higher powered Toledo is to bolt in a Dolly Sprint axle and be done with it, but well I never take the easy option plus I have a ton of retro Ford wheels sat waiting for their time, so I'm going to change the PCD over - hence a Ford english axle - stick to what you know and all that. Total Costs£1430 (£430 without engine)

In other news, I'm pretty sure the shade will be coming from this pageCurrently taken with this shade But do like the idea of a different coloured roof, darker than the body maybe.

That's not an offer to paint it for him is it Chris? LOL Anything is possible - more so if all the prep work is done and its a quick in & out - but don't get me wrong - I don't NEED THE WORK Sadly my prep standards wouldn't be good enough to warrant your paint abilities! Plus unless you're seriously undervaluing your skills I doubt the cheapskate budget would cover things!

Sweet do love a good Toledo. How did you manage to find a 2-door for that little though? I've been on the lookout for ages. eBay of course! Badly listed, found it via a search in description for "no engine"

Little bit more welding today, RH front strut tower reinforcement and RH A post to sill repaired. Morning interestingly I've been trying to work out a plan for the car, style wise. I've long been enjoying the ideas in there thread - Cafe Racers and a 'British' style for cars...Handily (amongst other lovely Retro Rider built Toledos) this car pops up in the thread. Clean and simple, nicely stanced - this is the start point, but it's a touch too classic triumph for what I'm after. Style wise I'm probably going more for something along these lines; Very 50's touring car - muted colour, pastel maybe. OR Something a bit more late 60's Thoughts?

You know what - I can appreciate a project far more when its purchased like this has a 'Bitsa' - missing 70% of its drive train plus a few other bits and down on its heels - not really my kind of a project which I personally put down to me getting too old & grumpy - it's the purchasing of something that's up & running that looks fine that is then is chopped & messed with to look nothing but a dog and worthless in my eyes that goes against the grain with me - But this - crack on sir - looking forward to it Cheers, this is what I tend to think, which is why I only ever start with things that have been sat degrading for years waiting for their owner to get round to them - basically then no matter what I do to them, it'll be better than what it was doing and also means I don't drive them with a so much fear of damaging them that I don't enjoy them fully. Plus it makes them very cheap

surely engine and box have paid for themselves already in entertainment had? makes running total a proper cheapskate £330. crack on. Man maths at its finest! But then it's certainly paid for itself a few times over, spent a lot more than that having a much worse time in my life!

For a while now I've been trying to find a home for the Zetec that has been sat around since the Capri went to classic regs with a V6. This wee beast; ~180bhp 2 Litre Zetec Silvertop Has quite the history behind it powering cars at RRG And it's only caused one of them to end up on it's side... Anyway this is the third time of trying, for some reason or other this has been a very stop start project - see hereUnlike the Avenger and GTE, I've actually put some proper time into this already, with a full weekend already in and the LH side now solid and the RH side half way there. Why a Toledo - well the key aim of Project Cheapskate is to build something surprisingly quick, fun, RWD and from the 70's as cheap as possible, and well the Toledo cost the princely sum of £270. Think of it as a cut price Escort. No engine or gearbox, which made it kind of perfect, a bit rusty and dented but it came with a good number of NOS panels (some which I'll sell to fund other bits), but it was missing the front screen and a couple of other bits. So I bought a ton of spares for £100, which handily seems to have everything I need and there's so much I can hopefully recoup some pennies. So costs so far; PartsCar - £270 Spares - £100 Set of MGF wheels - Free (not sure if I'll use them, but you know, free) Engine & Box - owes me £1000 ConsumablesSheet steel - Free Welding consumables - £60 so far Bits SoldNOS door - £100 TOTAL£1330

Arty preview of the new look front end, nearly ready for Classic Ford this weekend. Also got it MOT'd but still having ignition issues so going to try a different distributor option.

When was the last time you saw one of these?! Got this as a cheap to run winter hack last year, and it's done that job really well - seems to get over 50mpg no matter how you drive it. MOT till 02/10/19 In the last year it has had; - All filters replaced, including fuel - All fluids, including gearbox - New exhaust downpipe and gasket - New clutch - New glow plugs - New front brakes - Replacement right front lower arm and hub bearing In other words, it's mechanically good and has lots of life in it, drives ok, front brakes a bit warped but works fine. But there are reasons it's so cheap; - The paint is poor (it photographs much much better than it is!) - There are scratches, bumps, dents etc. on basically every panel - It has had a fair amount of welding underneath and is covered in surface rust (seems the vans didn't get the same body protection as hatches?) - Front tyres will need replacing in the next few thousand miles, and all of them a of unknown brands. - No radio fitted (wiring and speakers are there, just taken it out for my next car). Does have £20 of fuel in it, which will get it a surprisingly long way. So if you want a cheap daily, a retro parts getter, or something just a bit different for RRG19, this could well fit the bill. Would look great with some 90's style sign writing. £400 drop me a PM if you're interested.

Paint on, just needs a bit of polishing up in a week or two when it's nice and hard. Pretty pleased with it, but might need to put some silicon bead on as pretty sure paint will crack at the join between splitter and body as it's bound to flex a bit. Next up is some extra vinyl I think
