Just got back from looking around, certainly a lot of stuff, anyone need a grill as there seems to be one for every common car of the 70's! Really interesting place to nose around, nature certainly fighting hard to take the place back. Will get some photos tomorrow when Lauren comes with me (my phone camera is terrible), and f anyone is thinking of coming, sat nav works but the narrow lanes mean traffic is likely to be an issue so try get in early I'd say. Also there's a prettybig field for parking so hopefully that should be ok. Fingers crossed the weather holds. Oh and must try not to buy another Capri...

Would highly recommend this to anyone, have done this and other similar courses with work and they really do help your driving, often in ways you don't realise until you suddenly need the skills some grey, damp Tuesday! Plus its a lot of fun

You nearly got my name right lol ahahaha sorry about that... as PhoenixCapri will attest to I'm terrible with names (and faces). Truer words have never been spoken But then at best I tend to know cars, and forum names, and sometimes even manage to put the two of them together - but someones actual name, that's rare!

Just caught up with the thread. Excellent work. I especially like the work you're putting into the Cologne. I think its a far more interesting engine choice than the standard V8 swap, even if it is a tad more work and expense. Tom Cheers, certainly been taking some thought! But getting there with the general plan now, even got two thirds of the 44 IDF carbs I need - it's adding up fast money wise!

Not sure what the differences are between the 16v and 8v in terms of rwd installation (water outlets etc.) but the 8v is an easy engine to get into a capri/cortina engine bay, I even used the original sump. The biggest mechanical issue was that you need to thin the flywheel by 9mm to mate to the Type 9 but even that isn't a big job, I just handed over to a good machine shop. There are a few cars out there with the 2.3 from a rwd Scorpio, and by all accounts it seemed as easy to fit in the space as the 8v. At worst I guess you might need to get an 8v to rob some bits to install the RS2000 16v (at a guess the sump and mebbe flywheel). Have also heard of people mixing and matching blocks and heads to get an easier install (or to upgrade an existing 8v) The bigger job is probably how you run it. I'm running the stock ecu from the Sierra, and once you get your head around the wiring this is basically plug and play (there's even a chap on ebay selling the loom etc already stripped back to what you need). I believe the RS2000 uses a similar ecu setup to the 8v so should be pretty easy, but I think the 2.3 has a more advanced immobilized so you need additional stuff like the original key, lock barrel and dash? If you stick carbs and aftermarket ignition on it (or a full aftermarket ecu setup) then you'd avoid this though. Probably worth an ask on Turbosport, sure there's a guy on there with the 2.3 running the standard ecu who'll know lots more than me about these later DOHC engines. But if you're just using the car for road, and don't want to rip up the tarmac all that much and still get 40mpg the 8v is a surprisingly good motor, I love it in Laurens Capri - happy to take you out in it so you can see if the easier 8v setup would suit your needs trust me it isn't slow, and to be honest is perfect for a road car, very torquey and easy to drive and you only need basic suspension and brake improvements to make it feel capable of dealing with the new motor.

Like many others I'm actually struggling to see how you might improve it - any better and you'll be running it better than the Shelsley crew run their own hillclimbs! Only thing I noticed was the delay getting the afternoon groups in due to the sign on, but since I'd signed on in the morning we just chilled out for a while -= like has been said before this sounds like it'll be all sorted next time. Also like the idea of commentator notes - they do this at Prescott and it works well. If you really wanted to push the boat out you could even do a sort of grid walk and talk to a few owners while they're in holding. Roll on next year and more of the same I'd say!

And thank you for the photos fer4l and DarrenW love seeing peoples shots of the car, helps to make it all worth while. Was funny really, both me and Lauren found it very odd having cameras pointing at us a lot of the day, not complaining though!

OMG I never spotted the RR roundels! .. Amazing. Lovely to see you briefly, the car looks ace. Cheers dude, was good to bump into you as well, and to see you actually relaxed enough to be able to enjoy things and have a tea break! As for the roundels, well I somehow decided it was cheaper to buy a vinyl plotter than pay someone else to do all the decals for the Capri - so now I need to keep finding uses for it! If you need any single colour stickers etc. let me know, I can cut up to about 600mm wide and infinitely long

Oh you are a bad man - it's a very good thing that didn't turn up 2 weeks ago before I dropped the damn heads off to be ported! Maybe I should buy it anyway (looks in wallet, finds only dust and moths..... Realises some silly person at the bank never shut his student overdraft facility.....)

So another RRG down, and the Capri is still in one piece! Had a great time, and the hill was great fun as always, even felt like I was finally learning it a bit by my last run at the end of the day, just need to pick a braking point for the Esses now. Anyway, have some photos thanks to an unexpected bumping into of a work colleague

Looking at the rear arch (has a small but obvious lip) and the rear wings I would have said a series 2 Sunbeam Alpine And there are some similarities to a the Harrington coupes But the door/screen position doesn't match so there would have to be a heck of a lot of modification - my best best would be a very modified sunbeam or more likely a Special with the rear fin moulded from an Alpine/Dart
