That's a while off yet mate, just collecting all the parts for the high comp lump and getting that built up and run in on the standard injection first, then get the bodies on the go
Quick question but did you have any issues with the thinner head bolts while running your high comp set up?

About time I introduced my polo to all you lovely rr'ers. Copied and pasted from another site... Model: polo coupe S Engine: 1.6 afh/avy hybrid on the afh injection and management Suspension: mk1 golf coilovers all round, anti roll bar blocks Brakes: VW2's with wavey vented disks Wheels and Tyres: coupe s hocks Exterior Styling: mostly standard and in need of some loving for now, also G40 bee sting aerial fitted, m3 style rear lights and missing front fog/spot light. Removed arch trimester and rear wiper Interior Styling: full mk3 interior (including dash, door cards ect), corado front seats, 8 ball gear knob, time oil pressure gauge and momo steering wheel among other bits and bobs ICE and Security: nothing special other than 6n immobiliser and an alarm Comments:i picked this car up probably about December 2010 after a drunken late night browse through the for sale section on here. it had been for sale for a while and not had a lot of interest so i pm'd the seller a cheeky offer and a few days later we set off down to south Wales to collect it pic from add ![](http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f124/shabber/16v%20conversion%20mk2/Photo0056.jpg) on the way home ![](http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f124/shabber/16v%20conversion%20mk2/071020101031.jpg) ![](http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f124/shabber/16v%20conversion%20mk2/071020101030.jpg) and at home ![](http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f124/shabber/16v%20conversion%20mk2/121020101036.jpg) it was at this point i realised i had no use for it lol, i loved the way it looked and i knew i had got a bargain as it had had a lot of time and money put in to it in the past and was in surprisingly good condition. i knew that i wanted to make this one into a keeper but i had enough on my plate car wise so it was tucked up in my lock up until i had more spare time ![](http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f124/shabber/16v%20conversion%20mk2/161020101042-1.jpg) couple of random shots of it on the power techs before i started ripping it apart (that smoke is the HG begging for mercy  ![](http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f124/shabber/16v%20conversion%20mk2/051220101173.jpg) ![](http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f124/shabber/16v%20conversion%20mk2/051220101171.jpg) Fast forward about 6 months and I had pulled it out of the garage and started work on it. I modified some mk1 golf coilovers to fit, sold off the leather seats and fitted corado fronts with genesis rears, 13x7-8 power techs. I also converted it to a 1.4 16v afh running standard afh injection/management Engine bay with 1.4 afh Sitting pretty on 13x7-8 bcw powertechs During a visit to Santa pod (posted a best 1/4 mile time of 16.2) ![](http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f124/shabber/PA168930-Edit-Edit-1.jpg) Since then I've built a 1.6 16v hybrid engine consisting of afh head with avy (polo 6n2 gti) bottom end with is still running on the afh injection. I haven't got any photos of that but outwardly it doesn't look any different to the 1.4 I've also got rid of the powertechs in a deal for some novatech itb's, omex 500 management and pretty much everything else I need to run it on the polo bar an inlet mani ![](http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f124/shabber/IMG-20120102-00215.jpg) I'm building a second hydrid for these to run on tho but this time making it a high compression unit I've also just picked up some more wheels, 14x7-8 rh cups, couple of photos from trial fit ![](http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f124/shabber/IMAG1071.jpg) ![](http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f124/shabber/IMAG1074.jpg) Gonna need a bit of arch flaring and a mess around with the c spanner to get it sitting how I want it mind Well that's it for now, hope you like

Also as dodgerover says above demand that you want it back as soon as the assessment is done. The insurance company won't be storing the car, they will be paying some one else to store it. As soon as a car like this comes in the first thing the storage people will do once the assesser has said its not worth fixing is put a screwdriver straight through the petrol tank. We store accident damaged cars for a repair center up the road and I've sat on my lunch break watching them do it, they also rob bits of them for their own cars.
The insurance company will have little control over what happens to your car in that yard, they won't know or care, as far as every one on that side of the fence is concerned that car will be written off and crushed.

A mate had a series one golf gti that got forcibly taken from behind by some tit not concentrating on what was going on in front of them. They wanted to write it off but in the end he got payment inlue of repairs, basically they give you the money to get it repaired and send you on your way with the car. If you already have most of the parts then you will be quids in, probably best not to tell them you have the parts tho

Probably too far away but my mate was on about selling his mk2 coupe s, pretty sure its an early one as it doesn't have the sports seats but not 100%. It's sitting on steels and has a very traveller attempt at a bonnet vent (some idea's really are best left as idea's ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) ). It's a 5 speed, lowered 80mm and other than the bonnet isn't too bad but its not mint, don't think it would take much at all to get through an mot although I'm not sure if it has a sunroof or not Edit: just text him and he wants £250 for it Only photo I can find of it ![](http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f124/shabber/IMAG0642.jpg) If you want any more info drop me a pm as no doubt i'll forget about this post I've got some 1.4 16v parts possibly for sale too just incase that sort of thing floats your boat

The auto choke carbs are a known weak point on these so that may be where your problem lies
I can't see any reason why leaving the ignition on while changing the plugs would be either dangerous or cause any thing to happen with the starter motor. Does the starter make a clicking noise when you try and start it? It's may sound a silly question but has your battery gone flat through having the ignition left on?

Where's the challenge in chopping the springs tho slacker ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) I look at lowering cars as more of an engineering challenge and like to make it a little more difficult than it really needs to be, besides its a perfect excuse to get the welder out and try and improve my 'skills'

Getting a lot of inspiration for mine from this thread ;D
Are all the cars running chopped springs in the thread? I'm planning on using coilovers on mine, is anyone else running them?

Probably just a sticking Tappet mate being a later mk2 it will have hydraulic tappets.
The brakes ain't all that bad on them if they are in good condition, if they don't feel like they are working effectively then a fluid change and some decent pads won't go amiss. They do naturally feel heavy tho due to the lack of servo as already mentioned

I get this all the time mostly from friends and work mates although its probably not helped by how battered and unloved my car looks most of the time. Luckily I have my razer sharp wit to help me in such situations
