Is it me or do some people just not respect older cars?? 90% will have a we smile for you as you go chugging by maybe remebering a past experience or boyhoud love of the car your driving but there is the other 10% who don't seem to get why you want to drive a car with no central locking or electric windows Perfect example was last night my girlfriends younger sister was heading to her formal and her friends where arriving and they noticed the micra sitting in the corner of the yard (nova sr wheels with snow tyres on for good measure ;D) I heard one say i hope were not getting left up in that thing... Now i no a micra maybe isnt a true retro car but i hate these people who look down on them. Honestly i think its kinda hurtful at times, i got a fella passing me in a clio one night with the passenger hanging out the window giving me the middle finger....... needless to say the morris minor i was driving had a 1293cc a series mounted to a midget box and i went flying past giving him the mirror image affect. Kinda long winded but i think its true what i say, some people look down their nose at you because your not driving the up to date flashy car but what they don't realise these cars may be 1970s rust buckets or even a cheap winter run around but these can have a special hold on your heart and be seen as a close friend

I love these, they have the "hooligan" look about them straight from the factory!

i know exactly what you mean, my car is just the right height for Hid headlamps on these modern 4x4s to be glareing into my rearview mirror, what with them being glued to my ass cause I'm not doing 70 on the dual track, it gets a tad tedious at times.

hah, yeah, this I can empathise with. Shortly before my head gasket troubles I lost pretty much all my power going up a hill and the guy behind me was all over my boot because he couldn't get past due to oncoming traffic. Somehow, he managed not to notice he was behind a 26 year old car that was clearly having trouble and wouldn't demonstrate a little patience. And of course there's the numerous soft-roaders that seem to think the best way to make me go faster is to be so close that their headlights overpower my own. It's not, btw, it just makes me slow down and hold you up until I can see again. People seem a lot more patient out in the sticks though, compared to the Sheffield denizens. You've got some good looking friends, mine's rather more eccentric.

It happens a lot. One persons dream car is another persons old snotter. Live and let live, it's not your fault they're wrong

Hell yeah, feeling it I have mad passion for french hatches, you get the feeling of your not welcome here when you turn up any where. Took my other half away to a nice little country house type of get away in my 106 and if looks could kill and my god the people around looking down there nose at it, this was far from the first time we had been but as it was just finishing show season we decided to use the little 106 instead of the family car we would normally use. But then again I changed the 106 for the MR2 and we got completly different reception at nearly all places and found ourselves using it quite a bit when we went to eveing events and so on as people liked it, strange how a little french tin can hold naff all respect yet some bit of J curse word that was even older does. I'd still rather have the 106 on my drive thou

Some days you just need to take a grinder to an inanimate object, just to make your day a tiny bit better!!

I get this all the time mostly from friends and work mates although its probably not helped by how battered and unloved my car looks most of the time. Luckily I have my razer sharp wit to help me in such situations

I get it all the time being a Corsa B owner, even seen the same feeling here (but thats really to be expected, its not retro yet). Doesn't matter that I'm into proper retro stuff, historic motorsport etc. Most people see it as a Corsa and automatically think chav despite it being near enough stock and probably one of the best new-driver cars out there (rather have a Corsa B than a Polo Mk3 or Fiesta Mk4).
Sometimes it gets me down, but then I go for a drive and the smile returns.

very true thread. whenever i see a new range rover or something like that I think "stuck up snob", now I'm not saying all range rover drivers are snobs but the majority of the ones Ive seen are. now when I see an old car (like for instance the bluebird i saw parked up today) I cant help but smile. I'm used to it with my scooters. people get up my ass thinking yeh its a ped it does 30mph. mine don't lol mine do a little bit more than that so you can imagine their surprise when I'm happily keeping up with them at 60mph. At the end of the day "Haters gonna hate" personally I'm the same but the opposite..I hate new cars

Oh I know the feeling to I drive a camper van ever day and people look at me funny and I have had people shout hippy at me.
A few years back I had a Starlet 1995 and a fiesta 1995 and 1997 at my house my girlfriend at the time family kept telling me to buy a newer car when the bad frost hit in 2009 who's car was still going that's right mine and who had a grin ME there 2009 Ford Focus,Rover 400 ect where all broken or getting stuck me in my cars kept on going and going and going
Now I do remember when I last had the Chevette on the road I pulled up to help a person who's car had broken down and the first thing they said was "God me dad had one of those car when I was a kid" I laughed he did ask to seat in it so I let him now I like that people who are amazed to see cars from there childhood still been used but I think he was more shocked to s a 18 year old lad get out of the car
