Hello,
well iv'e fitted fr32 cams to pinto's in the past with verniers and the tickover was fine and this engine that came in my capri had a bad v8 sounding ticker over.. so i took the cam cover off to find it has a FR22 cam that is the equivalent to the fr32, but it still has the standard pulley on it.
can the engines tick over fine with the standard pulley? as this is terrible on ticker over, i mean to the point the engine is throwing punches left and right.
the standard marks are lined up and the valve clearances are right...
cheers james

Well driving off to my unit to do my cambelt change and knowing my luck while in 3rd rolling down the hill, my engine shut off and rolled in gear for a few seconds untill i pressed the clutch. Tensioner gave way :/.
Any how, i pulled the cam cover off and the cam at the back has all the lifters up and can only be moved back or forth with a ratchet, but the front cam, all lifters are near to top but not touching the cam, so you can slightly turn the cam by hand back and forth easy? any guesses?

See what i don't understand is, if it was timing it shouldn't be able to tick over fineish with a slight missfire to a big hunting stumble :s it doesn't hunt when driven. i got a new idcv "cheap" after buying a genuine ford second hand one and after doing both theres no difference which lead me to think otherwise. i do know if you come off the accelerator the revs stay for litterally a second more before dropping, but i couldn't imagine that causing a hunt.
