Today I thought I'd try and do a couple of small jobs on the MX5. First off was car ramps, I have a set of ramps but can't use them as the car is too low. I also have (had now) a length of sturdy wood so if I chop it in half I can make some ramp extenders. First job turn car round as it's facing out and the drive slopes down towards the garage. I wanted to do this as next job is to drain the cooling system down. Now we have first problem I can't open the drivers door, lock moves but the handle doesn't open the door. In from passenger side and it opens from the inside. Car starts first time, that's after 3 months sitting idle. Quick drive up road to turn round, 2 trails of liquid and then water flowing from front of car. Initial thoughts that something has gone in the cooling system but no it's dripping from the front of the sills (remember they were rebuilt last year). I'm guessing water has gathered somewhere at the back and turning it round it has flowed to the front. Best check the hood drain tubes later. Ramp extenders, they work but are narrower than the tyres so care will be needed. For the door lock I took off the door card and gave everything a liberal dose of WD40 seems OK now but will probably need a new lock set, the cover for the keyhole doesn't spring back. Oh and the door cards are nasty, especially after seeing the ones gryphon fitted would like something similar but without the arm rest. (I've fitted door pulls). That's enough for today, I was hoping to get my bike back in use but got a puncture and the tyres are well past their best (28 years old).

Could you run one as a generator. I know it's probably one of the most inefficient ways of generating power.

I'm sure others will be along with more details but I'm sure it's been done and featured in PPC magazine.

Thanks, something to look into post lockdown. My dents are in the rear wing where something has hit the wing from inside. Turning the convex dents into concave ones would be good as then they could be filled.

More information on removing the dents would be helpful, where did you get the tool? I've got some on the rear wing of the MSX3 that need sorting.

Random Covid-19 update. Using the Map my Walk app, it gives all sorts of info including a complete elevation tracker, showing any hills etc. The trick is to do a walk that makes a picture on the app... Video spying! unless I'm actually using it I have some paper over the laptop camera. Beware the settings if you use zoom the organiser can tell if you're not actually using the zoom window, like you're actually reading RR on the side...

I was really disappointed when I looked at the last update, I read the new title as "look it's got a CAT in it" and al I saw was a car.
Where's a picture of the new addition?
Neither of my dogs will return a ball, one just ignores it the other runs around trying to bark with it in its mouth occasionally stopping to try and rip it (the ball) to shreds.

Mercdan68 not sure if these a e of any use. I've taken some photos, these came of a Corsa (same as johnthesparky 's one), I was going to see if they fitted the MX5 (same 4x100) but I'm sure the offset will be all wrong and the tyres are the wrong profile (MX5 is 195/50). The tyres are nearly new with plenty of tread and there is also a spare 14" from the same car. Open to offers on these collection or delivery after lockdown. The tool kit with jack from the Corsa I've put in the boot of my white appliance as it has run-flat tyres so no jack or tools which doesn't seem right to me.

Great story, and pictures. I spent a lot of time in North California, working for a US IT company, including a 3 month (May-July) secondment. Stayed in Mariposa when visiting Yosemite, favourite place has to be Monterey and further down Highway 1 (PCH). Did go to Carmel and had brunch at the Hogsbreath Inn (Clint Eastwood's restaurant). Did you do 17 mile drive to Pebble Beach? Looking forward to more. One picture I liked from Highway 1

I have some steels (2) and a spare that came off a Corsa but I think they're 15", I'll check. Fingers crossed then, as I’ll happily buy them off you... in a little while There are a couple on eBay at the minute.... but pointless buying them as I can’t collect, in fact it’s weird that they’ve bothered advertising something as collection only since last week... but hey ho Should have checked before I replied, they're 15"and the spare is 14".

Didn't some cars have a special bag that went on the hatch in the rear seat armrest, which I though was called the ski hatch for carrying skis inside the car.

I've just bought a more modern car (2012) that's also white and it just feels like I've bought an appliance really can't get taht excited about it (although it's actually a very good car).

They say every petrolhead should own an Alfa Romeo at some point so even if it was a diesel estate sport wagon I can now cross that off the list!
I was hoping to get another year or so out of the Alfa but at the weekend it started to make funny noises (probably power steering pump) and on a couple of occasions puffed out a lot of smoke after lifting off (turbo going bad?). Also I have my doubts whether it would get through another MOT on visible smoke and the windscreen is cracked. Having a bit of disposable money at the moment and despite it being in the middle of the coronavirus panic hitting autotrader seemed like a good idea...
Aim was; - RWD (I'm fed up of front wheel drive) - petrol (I'm fed up of diesel) - hjatchback or estate (because dogs) - reasonably powerful - climate control (I've been spoilt) - ~50K miles - not white
Which really only lead to one car, at the money I wanted to spend, a BMW 1 series*. Lots of diesels and lower powered petrol and a very tempting 125 but right at the top of my price range. Then I found a 116i (170bhp petrol) with climate control good price (reduced by £500 as people cancelling viewings), at 49K miles ticks all the boxes except being white. Whatever, I bought it and got a measley £500 for the Alfa but at least I was spared the issues with getting it repaied and then trying to sell it in the current climate.
*I'm sure others could come up with alternatives but it suits me, and there are 2 locasl BMW specialists.
No pictures as it's a boring white modern car that you can see any day of the week. Won't even mention it in my signature. There is a temptation to take it along to a treack day and run it round Castle Combe though. My wife is pleased as she never really liked the Alfa and wanted something German.
The Alfa did a good job got rid of it at 108K, that's 67K in 5 1/2 years, cambelt went on it, needed a new (secondhand) gearbox, DMF and clutch plus lots of messing around with EGR/DPF.
On the MX-5 front lack of motivation has struck, again, I used it a few times before Christmas but since then it hasn't been used. Need to sort through the cooling system and give it a service then think about getting it painted. Would like to do the RR track day in July, virus willing.

Sorry a bit downbeat at the moment. Hope it's nothing serious. Thanks for the concern, nothing serious. Just been out to do a bit of a top up shop for vulnerable parents, shelves decimated, no flour, limited selection of bread, very little canned food. Really getting a bit ridiculous, was going to buy DVD of Le Mans 66 to annoy the wife with but can't find that and not paying £12 to watch it on Amazon. Sorry to hear about issues with dog, all our ex-pets are in a rose garden (patchg in our garden) crfemated I hasten to add does wonders for the roses. Mark
