"Freeze! Or name your beneficiary!" Some fantastic shots there. I bet you couldn't resist a "start" from the Cannonball startline That would have been fun but the place was a total dive. Its now a $20 per night/hourly rates available type of place with cars coming and going all the time so I was in enough danger taking the pictures that I did.

Two things have struck me today. In June it will be 10 years since my wee fasty was hit by the bin lorry.........10 fecking years!!!!! Where did the time go? So I dug it out this week to get it ready for its MOT test on Friday and the next thing that struck me was the odometer. Since the MOT last year I have covered a grand total of......... 8 miles! I really must use it more or get it sold but it does look good out in the sun (even if the bumpers could do with a re-chrome); Fastback 2017 by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Fastback 2017 by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Fastback 2017 by Dave Campbell, on Flickr I will update with the MOT results on Friday. Gathered up a few updates to post at once. Steering wheel replacement is on the list of jobs to pretty up the inside as the nice leather wrapped Mota-Lita wheel has gone dry and the leather has split beyond repair. Lots of looking around and Joanne found a wood rimmed wheel she really liked. Listed as semi-dished and sold by the usual VW outlets there was no reason to think it wouldnt be a straight forward replacement but there turned out to be 2 problems. First was the boss. Sold as a direct fit for a '67 Beetle, there was no doubt that it fit onto the shaft but once on there it almost completely covered the threads on the column so there was no way to fit the nut that would hold it in place; Before returning the boss we sat the wheel in place to see how it looked and this brought up the second problem, the wheel is too close to the indicator stalk so knuckles make contact when turning (I know, I have very feminine hands); So the old wheel is back on and the Mountney wheel that was purchased is on its way back to the supplier. Other jobs completed; Rear interior panels had the damp proof membrane and foam seal fitted to the car then clipped in place; I completely forgot to take a pic of the door panel fitted. Next up, we went round the car and fitted all the trim clips. This is not a fun job on perfect paintwork; But once the new chrome trim is fitted the stress is worth it as it looks great; Also got the glove box lid in place but cant find the latch. Deck lid spring and catch is fitted and another list of things we need to buy has been drawn up. This weeks plan is to get a different steering wheel ordered and a carpet set on its way. Dave

I could really do with finding one of these decklid badges for a 1967 VW Beetle. If you have one for sale or know where I could get one I would be really grateful if you could get in touch. Thanks for looking, Dave.

We have been back from our big road trip for a few weeks now but only managed to get a day on the car. Sun visor now painted and re-fitted; And the inside of the doors got a coat of waxoil before fitting the damp proof membrane and door cards. The red really looks good against the black; Spent a lot of time ordering parts and getting swatches from carpet companies but we are getting there. If anybody has a VW1200 or Volkswagen script for the decklid for sale, please let us know and also looking for the plastic trims that cover the pinch welds inside the B pillars from floor to roof. Dave.

A few weeks ago I was in the USA or a road trip that went from Atlanta Georgia, up over the Appalachian mountains to Gatlinburg/ Pigeon Forge and then to Chattanooga before heading back to Atlanta. Not surprisingly I managed to take in some car related sights but not until we got over the back of the hired Cadillac being re-arranged; Day 4. Not so shiny. by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Thankfully it was swapped without too much hassle though we did end up with a Volvo XC60 (felt like a much nicer car to drive) and a series of emails from the insurers that I imagine are going to cost me lots of money at some point. On the way to Gatlinburg I did some film location shots in Covington that will appear soon but once at Gatlinburg the first port of call was Cooters place, the Dukes of Hazzard museum and a shot in the General; Some more road trip shots. by Dave Campbell, on Flickr The full set of pics from Cooters can be found here; flic.kr/s/aHskUU9SSmGatlinburg also had a pretty good film car museum; Day 6 by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Day 6 by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Day 6 by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Full set of Hollywood star cars pictures are here; flic.kr/s/aHskUU9SSSBefore I get to the car museum highlight of the holiday, here are a few roadside spots; Day 10. Dollywood by Dave Campbell, on Flickr And now to the place I think most people on here will enjoy. Before we got to Chattanooga we had booked a tour of Coker Tires. Coker Tires manufacture classic style tyres, steel wheels, wire wheels and wood spoke wheels and at the facility in Chattanooga they store the founder, Corky Coker's car collection. The tour was free and as there were only 4 of us on the tour we got a really personalized tour and time to have a good look around. Anyway, enough of the jibba-jabba and on with the pics; This was built from scratch in 90 days for a film and by the time it was finished the film project was cancelled; Day 11. Thanks all, Fester really is looking amazing, Ed and Johnny have worked miracles on the wee bug. This will be the last post for a few weeks as we are away but Fester came home tonight almost 5 years to the day from when I started this thread. He was welcomed home by the happiest Beetle owner in Scotland; Then tucked up in the garage until we get back to finish the interior; Fester came home by Dave Campbell, on Flickr A HUGE thank you again to Ed and Johnny, the resto will continue in a few weeks and if we make it to the Volksfling show in Biggar at the end of May, come and have a look and a chat. Dave.

Cheers all, the car is looking amazing even if I do say so myself. Remember the update I was predicting would come through today? Well at 9:45am Fester was with the man from the ministry; And by 11am.................. WOO-HOO!!! Never had any doubt it would be a pass but great to finally have the bit of paper. He is coming up the road now for me to finish the interior, re-fit the aussie sun visor and hub caps and for Joanne to drive with a big smile. Dave

Another day another update. First off, I put together a time lapse video showing the build up of the passenger door and front chrome. But more importantly, Ed has worked his magic again and Fester saw daylight today and looks like a finished car. I have a feeling I will be back with another update tomorrow if all goes to plan Dave

I spent Sunday down at Ed's but got far less done than I had hoped. First jobs, fit fuel tank and brake fluid reservoir; bumpers on by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Then Bumper, horn grills, number plate and bonnet handle; bumpers on 1 by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Bonnet trim; bumpers on 2 by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Then wipers; bumpers on 3 by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Also did a final fit of the door seals, door check straps and some tidying round before filling the tank and starting the car off the key with its own fuel supply. I'm currently working on a video showing just how much running around all these jobs took. All going well there will be a BIG update coming soon. Ed and Johnny are working hard on the stuff I didnt get done on Sunday. Dave.

I have let this thread go without updates now for over 2 months for one good reason.......... The trusty wee Golf has been performing its duties without drama through the winter (famous last words). I did however take this amusing picture last week; Odometer palindrome. by Dave Campbell, on Flickr All the while I have been puting the miles on going up and down to the workshop where I am restoring SWMBO's Beetle (which will be getting MOT'd on Wednesday) seats in 6 by Dave Campbell, on Flickr seats in 7 by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Golf at night by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Dave
