I think in a period car it's cool to have period-correct music same as the age of the car to complete the vibe when cruising. Agreed. The Granada only had CDs (which were only for show as the deck didn't work) and tapes that the first owner would have been able to own on the day they got it, so nothing newer than April 1992. That's brilliant! I can't imagine how much work went in to it

Look at these posh boys with their fancy tape players. The Sunny has a radio, Medium Wave and Long Wave only ... test match special all summer long for me. You can still have Absolute Radio on MW. I had a special edition Cherry years ago, and one of the extras was a tape deck, separate to the radio. It was wired to the front speakers, with the radio wired to the back speakers, and you could have them both on at the same time!

I do! Had the Granada and could never get the CD player to work, and now I've got the Citroen camper, which is even older!

The Granada is SORN, and the only other one I know of is my VW Dormobile, which is also SORN and has been for about five years.

If you're on Twitter, you may well follow @autocar, but they also have @autocar_1895, who publish little snippets from the Autocar archives. This little gem popped up today, from 1896: Not only does it discuss the installation of charging points for electric cars (!) but it shows how the terminology of this infant technology was developing. From now on, I have decided that I no longer 'drive' and that I am a 'driver', rather that I practise 'autocarism' and thus that I am an 'autocarist'

Loads (if not all) of modern cars are like this. I've lost count of the amount of drivers that I've seen driving in the dark like this. DRLs are far too bright. A number of times I've been driving early in the morning, just as it's beginning to get light, and not realised that I'm running on DRLs for a few minutes.

And this morning we went for a run to a nearby cafe frequented by bikers, car cruises and dog walkers, and spotted all of this... Newlands Corner! I've never seen anything even a fraction as cool as any of that when I've been there.

I have an idea... A load of old Argos catalogues have been scanned and uploaded here: retromash.com/argos/Might be worth hunting through them and see if it turn up?

OK, I've found a similar modern thing called a Ball Rider (turn your Safe Search on!). Some variant of that might bring results?

Yep, I'd say those are the wheels alright, as for how it works, well, it's very simple. You park your bum in the orange plastic seat whilst the thing is parked at the top of a hill. Then you take hold of the two levers, which ever lever you pull towards you, turns the front wheel in that direction. Then you squeeze the brake lever, this releases the back brake, and you're off... Into the great unknown! So 'toboggan' or 'sled' is obviously not bringing anything up. Could it be some sort of bobsleigh trainer maybe?

It goes a lot further than that with me - poorly worded / constantly misspelling in ads makes think why the hell would I want to deal with this bloke he can't even spell / advertise the vehicle correctly - I appreciate that some vendors may be unfortunately dyslexic but in these days of auto spell check - then again maybe they don't know how to turn a spell check feature on in the first place! - It's still NOPE Especially when the words are in the photos. You've taken a picture of the badge that says 'Cavalier' and you can't copy the word? Even worse when the model or make is completely wrong. '1999 Polo for sale' and there's twelve photos of a Golf? NOPE!

First-gen Seat Toledos have pretty much disappeared. I have a strange inexplicable liking for these.

cars that the bloody headlamps turn off when you turn the engine off I don't see the problem with this one, much lower risk of the battery going flat...

Glanced out of the kitchen window just in time to see a very tidy-looking black Citroen AX GT pulling out of the junction. Then saw a black Mazda 323 4x4 Turbo in the supermarket car park, and a burgundy Vauxhall Astra Mk2 GTE on the way home. Looks like the Gravesend retro scene is thriving! This is all on top of the V-reg Cortina 1.6L estate with four-spoke RS alloys that my work colleague is smoking about in.

Why do you power rails look brown? Copper tape, I suspect. It means every car is effectively magless.

This was approaching the Dartford Tunnel at about 10:30am. Had to Google the reg. when I got home: It is apparently a Speed Six with Vanden Plas Tourer replica bodywork.

We've never forgotten to charge our electric car. If we did, and for some reason it was completely empty (a particularly unlikely time to forget to plug it in!), we could plug it in at home, get enough charge in about 10 minutes to get to our nearest rapid charger and then charge it enough to get to work. And here's the problem. If you park on the street, or in a communal car park in a block of flats, how do you charge at home? I've had twelve addresses in the UK, and only at two of them would it possible to charge an electric car. Rapid chargers are great, but Gravesend has 66,000 residents and two charging points. If the Government are serious about eliminating the reliance on fossil fuels for transport, then they need to massively invest in the infrastructure. As a comparison, the town of Longford in Ireland (population 10,000-ish) has seven points.

I could envisage this policy giving hydrogen fuel cell infrastructure a boost. Or another upsurge in LPG?
