anyone know where to get extended wheel studs from? i need m12 x 1.25 with a 12.4(ish)mm spline for my hillman avenger. as a couple of alternatives i've come up with, drill hubs for 14mm spline stud (no way of re-splining the hubs though) use m12 cap head bolts bonded in (a good fit without touching the splines already there) use wheel adapter/spacers (would need to make a spigot ring for the rears as there isnt one at the moment) any thoughts on the above? thanks I'm pretty sure the hub holes aren't splined when drilled, just plain holes. The studs force the spline into the hubs. Some balljoints fit like that too.

I recognise it, but can't think! Nothing important, someone asked and it's bugging me 😂 I was more intrigued as to what the actual item is - I guess a printing block like d1gbethdave suggested? Yeah was posted on a Facebook group I'm on as they didn't know.

Definitely a Viva. Next door had one rotting away for years out side. Wouldn’t let anyone near it, and eventually it collapsed in on its self. A guy local to me has a mk1 escort that's the same. God knows how he has kept hold of it. It Looks like a good one too (2 door, rs 4 spokes, black paint between the rear lights) completely original by the looks of it but mega rotten. Has now started to fold in half at the front bulkhead.

Wheel trims are viva and the way the rear wings peak, rather than rounding out is viva.
I am wondering if it's displaying stripes or if it's just shading. All the striped vivas I know don't have that shape.

My initial reaction was "mk1 escort, how on earth does he not recognize a Mk1 Escort!" I'll be sitting in the corner if you need me.I think that's a perfectly rational first thought. Just such an iconic shape anything remotely like one will trigger that first. I thought it was Vauxhall, maybe 2300 or something, but the windows were wrong.

Seems it has sold. Wonder where it will surface next. And possibly how long before it is back on the market. I wonder where it will surface.
Hang on, I know. Here. Because I bought it!
I don't live near Cornwall, so used the drunken eBay approach (without being drunk or on eBay) by buying it without seeing it in person or test-driving it. Just relying on the seller's description and a friend who knows him. Was that a massive mistake? Well, it was certainly a mistake on several levels, but time will tell...
I caught the train down to Exeter and drove it 200 miles home. It's VERY NOISY. At some point, it's had a silencer delete, and since it only had one to start with, that means all the sound comes out, and it's not a particularly nice tune. The suspension had been lowered at the front (it's got torsion bars, so easily done), and that meant it tramlined terribly and the tyres hit the wheelarches with only a little lock wound on. I had to adjust it back to standard height, as while I'm not self conscious about driving a noisy yellow van with cartoon penguins on the side, I can't stand cars which don't perform basic functions properly.
Apart from the suspension correction, all I've done is fit a reversing camera set-up and an LED fog lamp bulb (to make it actually visible).
The wheels are too wide (fronts are 8J, originals were 4.5J), so of course I have limited steering lock. Rears are even wider, with 255 section tyres, which is a lot for 70hp to turn. The tyres might not make it through the next MOT, so I'll look to get smaller steelies to roll around on with semi-sensible tyre sizes.
I do like it a lot, though. It'll be handy for moving house next month, and I'm sure I'll have lots of friends who want to borrow it (to collect/move things)...
Glad it's on here! When it was for sale 6 years ago I'm sure it was bone stock and freshly imported. Might be wrong though. Any history on when it came over here? I did look up the sign writing but can't remember, was it for an off license?

Love it!
How do the front doors latch, presumably not to the rear doors. With the rear door open, I assume the front door still latches shut. Do they latch to the roof and sill?

Had a good look at all the work done on the under side, no rust has appeared, so I'll get stuck in to scotching it all in preparation for applying the stone chip coating. Once my new compressor arrives, I can start making some decent progress on the body. Looks great under there! Can't remember what this coating is, what's your process underneath, clean up metal, this coating, stone chip, then paint?

Another couple of bits, I know one is bike related but just thought I would make a couple of you of a certain age laugh at the Grifter mud guard flap that has obviously been bent to rub against the tyre for that realistic motorbike sound. Come on own up the ones who did this back in the day. Last week I saw a local kid, about 15 or so, on a grifter with a small petrol engine fitted. Thought it was odd, in this day and age, to even see a grifter, let alone a powered one, and ridden by a kid! I can only assume his dad is a fan or old Raleighs.

No strictly what you’re asking, but similar to glenanderson I have a separate ‘on the road’ kit thats entirely unrelated to workshop stuff. I keep in in a canvas napsack type army bag, so it rattles less. That an a halfords super low trolley jack moves between my cars as I do. It’s mostly a selection of spanners, a bare bones 1/2” socket set, a few screwdrivers, pliers and snips, and then the real get you home tools of a lump hammer, chisel, hacksaw and files. Plus zip ties, wIre, assorted bolts and electrical connectors, etc. I have exactly the same set up in a canvas bag that lives in whatever old vehicle I'm driving at the time. I make do with a bottle jack though, mainly as the bedford is so high!

Nice little audio set up I have some vintage pioneer 3 way speakers in my cf, they sound great! Better than any of the new expensive stuff in the car audio shop.

Passenger seat done. The foam really doesn't match the cover shape so looks a bit baggy. I may revisit this in future. Didn't clean up as nicely either and looks a little more faded. Maybe this seat has been replaced at some time. Not very exciting, looks the same as the other. Time to do all the rear seats now.

Lucky that you have something nearby. All the tracks near me are indoor/carpet type setups. I don't have a car for that, and not really any interest in getting one I tend to play at robin hood races at which has set to and carpet. Very few dirt/grass tracks around. Another reason I built a small one for myself. I did build a touring car for the local tarmac tracks, but not been racing yet. Never driven on road!

Used to buy saddle packs from him before lipo took over (about the same time as I retired from rc) I have a whole bunch of late 80s nice saddle packs, but I run everything on lipo these days. I'll check them one day though, I bet most will still take a charge!
